Old Jerry
The suddenness of Christ’s coming is so fearful because we don’t always walk the straight and narrow path. These passages were fulfilled in Jesus’ day with John the Baptist cleared the way for Jesus.
LT Lady
The suddenness of His coming is fearful because with it He brings judgement upon us. We go about our ways forgetting to give Him first place in our lives. He calls us to account. If it were not for His mercy and the provision for our salvation, we could not stand. John the Baptist fulfilled the prophecy of the messenger that prepared the way. Jesus’ condemnation of the religious system of his day showed His judgement against it. Revelation 11:18 states: “The nations were angry; and your wrath has come. The time has come for judging the dead, and for rewarding your servants the prophets and your saints and those who reverence your name, both small and great, and for those who destroy the earth.” God promises that there will be judgement. He will fulfill His promise.
Krissi
Why is the suddenness of Christ’s coming fearful? How were these verses fulfilled in Jesus’ day. How will they be fulfilled at his Second Coming? The fear is guilt. If we had perfectly upright lives without sin, we would not fear. As you wrote, there is no middle ground. We are either in Christ or against Him. Either we submit or we die. And submission is painful. It's the caustic soup and white hot fire that burns away the impurities, sins, tendencies, desires, dreams and hopes, until there's nothing left but an empty vessel waiting to be refilled. The "killing" of the self by God is fear inducing. The thought that I will be consumed to be saved is terrifying. And yet, such burning/training yields the "peaceful fruit of righteousness." I don't know if this fruit will be ours in our lifetimes or at His return.

For some it could be they have not accepted Jesus as there savior, the unknown, for some it might be not wanting to let go of this world. They were fulfilled through John the Baptist, at Judgement day.
Katy
Q1. The suddenness of Jesus coming is fearful if we are not ready. If we haven’t repented and humbled ourselves before God, then we have reason to fear. When He comes there will be no chance to change things and no excuses will be acceptable. Q2.These verses were fulfilled in Jesus day by John the Baptist preparing the way for Jesus and teaching repentence. Q3. These verses will be fulfilled when Jesus returns to Judge us all. There will be no more opportunities for repentance it will be about judgement.
hanks
Q19. (Malachi 3:1-4). Why is the suddenness of Christ's coming so fearful? How were these verses fulfilled in Jesus' day. How will they be fulfilled at His coming? Christ’s second coming will be sudden and unexpected, and it’s purpose will be to judge rebellious sinners and to establish His kingdom on earth. This will be fearful to unbelievers since this time our Lord will not be coming in grace, not as a Redeemer, but as a judge, to eradicate the rebellion that is on earth. Our Lord Jesus intends to purify (refiner’s fire) and He intends to clean (launderer’s soap). There will be no pollution when He establishes His kingdom. These verses were fulfilled in Jesus’ day by His first coming in grace and mercy, and will be fulfilled at His second coming in judgment. John the Baptist was the first messenger mentioned who prepared the way for the ministry of Jesus by preaching the Word to the crowds, urging them to repent of their sins, baptising them, and telling them about Jesus the Messiah. Not participating in sin or the things of the flesh, because He could come at any time. b. These verses were fulfilled in Jesus day, when John the Baptist came before Jesus, baptized the people with the baptism of repentance. c. Jesus comes proclaiming, "The time is come. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe the gospel. Jesus came the first time to give His life for all a ransom for those who would accept His dying for them, His resurrection and ascension. But in the second coming, He comes to judge all who didn't receive Him and are happy with their sinful lives.
haar
Q19. (Malachi 3:1-4). Why is the suddenness of Christ's coming so fearful? We can be found unprepared and may be found guilty of un repented sin and end up in hell. How were these verses fulfilled in Jesus' day. How will they be fulfilled at his coming? Jesus came to into the world and dwelled here, died and rose to heaven. He will suddenly return without notice. We need to be ever prepared so that we will be ready and not to be caught unprepared. TraceyF
The coming of the Lord was fearful for the people with power. A man that mighty could cause them to lose the authority over the people. In those days, John the Baptist and Malachi were the messengers. God had others to speak to the people. In the future, God will return again. We, his children, need to be ready when it happens.
Reina
The suddenness of Christ’s coming can be fearful for those who have not repented. There will be no forgiveness, no second chances. Verse one tells us that John the Baptist is coming to prepare the way for Jesus. Jesus is the one who comes to the temple and preaches the word to those who will hear. The word In Verse 2 that he preaches is how he will one day purge a d purify them from all their unrighteousness . He will be back to fulfill what he preached for all that believe and for those that do not believe. Not just for the few when he walked the earth before his death, but for the many who have not seen and believe and those who heard and refuse to accept . Woe to them! Irmela
Malachi 3:1-4). Why is the suddenness of Christ's coming so fearful? The question that probes ones mind is will I be ready. What about my loved ones. Will they be ready? I know i cannot make a decision for them. That is what is so frightening will they choose Christ's way. How were these verses fulfilled in Jesus' day. John the Baptist came preparing the way. He preached repentance. Christ came and He too preached repentance. There cannot be refining without repentance. In fact the repentance is as if going through the fire and also to be scrubbed and be cleansed as if with fullers soap. All of it is a repenting, cleansing process. Through grace and His mercy we can be cleansed How will they be fulfilled at his coming? His second coming too will be sudden and unexpected. Because of His purness, we will not be able to stand. We will kneel before Him for He truly is Lord. This time He comes to judge. O Lord may I take the oppotunity You still give me and allow You to refine me, may i not shy away from the scrubbing but bow and submit. Make me pure within, Lord. haar
Q19. (Malachi 3:1-4). Why is the suddenness of Christ's coming so fearful? The suddenness of Christ coming will so fearful especially to those who are living lives doing what the they want to do and the way they want to do it. The will not want change. How were these verses fulfilled in Jesus' day. In Jesus day, leaders and chief scribes were not prepared for Jesus coming and resisted his teaching because they preferred to continue life as usual. Thus the plotted to kill him. How will they be fulfilled at his coming? Many people are still living their lives doing only what pleases them. The sudden coming of Jesus will thus catch many unprepared and fearful.
Eldress Rowe
The suddenness of Christ's coming is so fearful because we do not know if we will be found wanting, out of the ark of safety, or with our work undone. Therefore it behooves us to live everyday as if it is our last and in obedience to the commandments of God and according to His prescribed will for we will not have time to get our business fixed when He comes. The verses were fulfilled in Jesus's day when both John, the forerunner of Christ, and Jesus came preaching repentance for there is no forgiveness of sin without repentance. Few could bear the light of the glorious Sun of righteousness nor his ministry or the light of that day for it was contrary their principles and practice. But when we adhere to His doctrines and ministry and repent we are purified by the blood of Christ and the imputation of His righteousness and in the end will be without spot and blemish and as white as snow. At His coming He will be like a refiner's fire separating pure doctrines from ones of dross and separating and saving His people from a crooked, perverse, and corrupt generation which He will destroy. The corruption and impurity of sin, which is original and natural, and inherent in mankind can only be removed by the grace of God and the blood of Christ therefore it is imperative that we be purified by the blood of Christ and sanctified by the grace of His Spirit that we might be pleasing unto the Lord and acceptable to God through Christ Jesus. It’s fearful because he is a just judge and we at least I am not worthy How were these verses fulfilled in Jesus' day. These verses speak of 2 messengers; one to prepare the way and the other the messenger of the covenant. These were fulfilled in John the Baptist and the second was Jesus himself How will they be fulfilled at his coming I think here maybe what is refereed to is his second coming, when he comes as a judge and unfortunately for us we know not when this will be.
