Q6. Yet Sinners

Q6. (Romans 5:6-8) What do verses 6-8 say about humankind's situation? It says that when we were powerless that Christ dies for us. When we were ungodly and sinful He died on our behalf. That people will not die for a righteous person but for someone who is good they dare to do it. That God showed His love to ius while we were still sinners. He sent Christ to die for us even though we did not deserve it. There was nothing good in us that caused Him to do it only His great love and mercy and grace. For all our righteousness is nothing but filthy rags in God's sight.

What is so remarkable about Christ's death for us? What motivates that sacrifice? That Christ did it even though He knew we were His enemies. He died for us because He loved us.

That we were still helpless sinners, unable in our own strength and wisdom to do anything that would change our situation. Powerless!

In the eyes of the world, not God, we were not worth saving, definitely not worth dying for.                                                                But God, in  love and mercy, at just the right time sent His son Jesus to die for us.

God’s perfect Love.

Humankind is in such bad shape, we needed a sacrifice through Jesus to absorb the punishment we deserve.  We could not get out of the hole we are in without him.  From our point of view, based on what we observe, it is highly unlikely that we would died for a truly righteous man or even a good man.  Here is Jesus who died for us who are far worse than being good or righteous!

Jesus understood, I suspect that the only way we could reconnect in a relationship with the Trinity was to offer to take on everyone's punishment:  past, present and future until the Final Judgment and offer this grace freely.  The remarkable thing is that God wants a relationship so badly with us, that he would do this.  The other remarkable thing is that God is still being absolutely fair in fulfilling the law so that we can continue to trust him.  Jesus' sacrifice was required because a punishment was required.  This was not something that God did to make an exception  Because of this, as well, all of the other scriptures stand trustworthy.  God is a God that maintains His promises and His reputation.

The ultimate motivation for the sacrifice is the incomprehensible love he has for us and the desire to keep us close for eternity.

Q6. (Romans 5:6-8) What do verses 6-8 say about humankind's situation? What is so remarkable about Christ's death for us? What motivates that sacrifice?

The situation of mankind was enmity with God as we were sinners and not worthy for any favour or acts of love from God.

The remarkable thing about Christ death for us is that he willingly agreed to die in our place so that we would be ransom from the penalty of sin which is death. The motivation for this sacrifice is love by the extravagant grace of God.

Q6. (Romans 5:6-8)
What do verses 6-8 say about humankind's situation? What is so remarkable about Christ's death for us? What motivates that sacrifice?
Our situation is one of total depravity. Sin has affected every aspect of our being: our body, our soul, our mind, our will, and so forth. So much so, that we are morally bankrupt and powerless, ungodly and wicked sinners by nature. On our own, we do not have the ability to think, to believe, to know, or even to reach out to God. John 6:44a "No-one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him.” The remarkable thing about our Lord dying for us, is that He died while we were still sinners. Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, motivated by sovereign love and not by any human merit or achievement, died for us, the ungodly. This is a godly love which is beyond our scope and understanding - not the sinful, selfish human love. Salvation is totally unconditional towards us; there is nothing in us, nothing about us, nothing we do, can do, or will do that will motivate God to love us. No one can separate us from this love of Christ (John 10:29), and there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Rom 8:1).

I spoke, last night, to a lovely young man from Africa who had been raised a Christian and yet abandoned his faith more than a decade ago. He did not see his current situation as "powerless," he did not think of himself as "ungodly," and though he admitted he had sinned, he did not think of himself as a "sinner."

I don't know why only we -- Christians -- receive insight into their own depravity but not others. Obviously the Spirit illuminates our mind and heart; quickens our spirit so we turn toward Christ. But this fundamental insight in Romans, that we are sinful and separated from God because of our sin, isn't intuitively obvious to most people. Like this young man, they simply don't or can't see themselves in this way.

Christ died for people who refuse to see their need for His death as well as those who acknowledge their own sin.

there is no man in earth who can do good and not sin against God. Out of pure love, Jesus died on that cross so that our human nature can be tamed and transformed into a new mindset. The Truth sets in our thoughts and we start living a daily renewal of our minds, body and emotions, according to the only Truth there is

These verses tell us that we were powerless, we were unable to do anything to help us get out of our sin. We have “a bent” towards sin and keep on living in this way. We find ways to excuse and justify our sin. That is if we are conscious of sin, many people are not aware of what is right and wrong in God’s eyes. Jesus came to our rescue He left the splendour of heaven and came into the most humble of circumstances, lived in a sinful world, although He was without sin. He was eventually tortured and nailed to a cross, all for us who were His enemies, not His friends. We can be Jesus’s friends by believing that He came and died for us. Jesus did this wonderful thing for us, it was so unusual for anyone to die for their enemies. Occasionally someone may die for a friend, but unheard of for someone to die for their enemy. Jesus did this because He loves us so much and “He is not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance”. 2Peter3v9.

Verses 6-8 speaks directly to the core idea that we were, and still are sinners (we are ungodly). We don’t deserve any type of goodness or favor from God or Christ.  We repent, but then sin again. Human nature also has shown that one would lay down his life for a “good” person, or a loved one, but rarely for someone not of the faith or evil (sinful) in nature.

Christ’s death flips this idea on its head.  Christ died for us (demonstrating God’s love) while we were STILL SINNERS.  This idea of sacrifice, planned by God long ago, is all about Love, His Love, for His people (us)!

Q6. (Romans 5:6-8) What do verses 6-8 say about humankind’s situation?

Humankind situation was that our condition was terrible.  We were powerless, ungodly and sinners.

What is so remarkable about Christ’s death for us? What motivates that sacrifice?

What is remarkable about Christ's death for us is that he did it while we were still sinning.  He demonstrated his love for us by dying on our behalf.

Mankind is caught in a spin cycle controlled by the flesh (ego), the world, and Satan. Most do not see the extent of their fall, even later in life, because of the veil sinfulness puts over their eyes. And most exist in the disillusionment of humanism (man is mostly good) and godlessness (there is no God so we only exist).

Jesus Christ, the anointed one, said no! God loves you and all mankind and has been working through all of time for a return to relationship.

The amazing thing is such love for all creation when we don't deserve such love.

Every human being since Adam and Eve chose sin over obedience has been born with moral decay and weakness, with no strength or power to rescue or redeem themselves. Paul also used the words ungodly (i.e. godless) and sinners (i.e. depraved). Why would anyone agree to sacrifice themselves for someone like that? It was because of the unfathomable pure love of God. Christ died on our behalf - while humanity was still in this degraded state set as enemies of God with no desire or possible way to be redeemed - because of love.

I think of these words written and sung by Zach Williams:

“There's only love in the heart of God,  No room for shame in His open arms

There's beauty from ashes, so come as you are  'Cause there's only love in the heart of God.

Come, prodigal children, it’s never too late. Run home to the Father, let Him clothe you with grace

And bury your burdens, break free from your fear. Step out of the shadows, there’s no judgment here

...There’s only love in the heart of God”

Because of love.

"We were utterly helpless" (Rom 5:6, NLT)

'Utterly helpless' - without power - we were totally unable to do anything to help ourselves out of our 'lost situation'

It is remarkable that "(Christ died for us) while we were still sinners (Rom 5:8, NLT)

Referring back to Q5 Christ died for His enemies ... this is remarkable!

And this remarkable act was motivated by LOVE "God showed His GREAT LOVE for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners (Rom 5:8, NLT)

Romans 5:6-8) What do verses 6-8 say about humankind’s situation? What is so remarkable about Christ’s death for us? What motivates that sacrifice?

Because of our sinful state, humankind is condemned.  There is nothing we can do to save our souls.  That is why Jesus became the atonement for our sins.  What is remarkable about Christ's death for us is that it is sacrificial, he died for all, he dies for sinners and his enemies.  It is mind boggling and it is because of God's great and unconditional love for us.  Who can actually comprehend this great love !

Q6. (Romans 5:6-8) What do verses 6-8 say about humankind’s situation? What is so remarkable about Christ’s death for us? What motivates that sacrifice?

Jeremiah 17:9 says The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked, who can know it. Our situation is beyond hope.

Christ didn't just come and take a bullet for us.  That would have been inexplicable enough but was stripped, scourged, mocked spit upon, and nails pounded through his hands and feet and hung upon a cross for a slow death.  What is so remarkable about His death for us?  There is nothing nice or beautiful in us that we are or were in anyway appealing to a pure and holy God. Apart from Christ we were and are totally repulsive.

What motivates that sacrifice?  Love an attribute of God and part of His character alone motivates that sacrifice.

Totally inexplicable!

God Bless!

Verses 6-8 show how dire humankind was in that we were living in deep sin but while we were still sinners, God demonstrated His love for us and Christ died for all our sins. Christ did not wait for us to repent but He died for us anyway.

What is remarkable about Christ's death is that it did not pick any race, gender and creed but died for everybody. There was no righteous man nor good man who would have given his life for mankind but Christ did it for us.

What motivates that sacrifice is God's Love and His Grace. The unmerited favor that made Christ leave His Heavenly Throne and came, dwelt among men so that He may understand the pain and suffering that men go through. Having experienced that, He says to God "Let this cup pass by, not my will but Thy will be done". The sacrifice was fulfilling God's will that humankind should not go to eternal death but have eternal life.

human situation was at his worst, we were sinners, ungodly, morally decayed.

but what's so remarkable about Christ death is that even in this chaotic stage of humanity he died for us, not because we are good people but because of God's grace.

what motivated this sacrifice is his love , for God so love the world John 3:16.....also... Husband love your wife even as Christ Love the church and gave himself for it.

Romans 5:6-8 states man kind is helpless in his situation because we are powerless ungodly sinners.

it is remarkable that Christ died for us because we were and are lost sinners.

But God demonstrated his love for us by sending His only beloved Son to di for us while we were still sinners this indeed is a true Holy Love.

  1. Humankind was dead to transgression and sin and were objects of God's wrath. Even the repented ones were part of those who followed the world systems of sinful nature
  2. The cravings of our flesh or sinful nature
  3. conscious - gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts
  4. unconscious - when we followed the ways of the world under the influence of the evil spirit

  1. The is good in man represented by the remnant of the image of God as presented in Genesis 26:1
  2. they are basically bad because the remnant of the image of God gets shadowed by the evil of the heart of man to the extent that we only need mercy and grace pout of the this situation.
  3. Murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander
  4. The above which are haboured in the heart of man make man unclean and are expressed in the deeds of man

  1. According to Bonhoeffer, cheap grace is the justification of sin without the justification of the sinner. It is preaching of forgiveness without requiring of repentance, baptism, without church discipline, communion without confession, grace without discipleship, grace without the cross and grace without Jesus Christ living and incarnate
  2. Costly grace doesn't mean we should work for it but because it involves the sacrifice of the life of Christ and that we should sacrifice our pleasures for the sake of the gospel
  3. Costly grace is the one that calls to follow Jesus Christ, it costs a man his life, it condemns sin, it cost God the life of His son
