Lottie
Q10. (John 3:16) How does John 3:16 display "favor that is neither earned nor deserved" without using the word 'grace'? What is the relationship between grace and giving? What motivates the gift in this verse? How does this relate to grace? In the way that God shows love to us by giving up most precious to Him and that is His Son. It shows that He will go to any lenghts to save us and bring us into a restored relationship with Him. That grace extends beyond His goodwill to the gifts that He freely gives us that are not earned either. The gift is motivated by His great love for us and that He does not want us to be eternally seperated from Him. It is related to grace in that there is nothing we can do to earn it and it is undeserved on our part. We deserve to go to hell for what we have done yet in His great mercy and grace He is giving us a way out.
Katy
Q10. Because we are all sinners we deserve nothing but eternal punishment but John 3 v16 shows us Gods great love for us because He sent His precious only Son to die on the cross to redeem us from our sins. This gracious treatment by God is neither earned or deserved by us. The relationship between grace and giving is the fact that they are similar because both are free , unearned and undeserved. In this verse love is the motivation behind what Jesus / God did for us. Jesus love for us is so great that He came to die for us. We did not deserve this act of kindness and unselfishness not could we have earned it and it is the same with God’s grace we do not deserve it, or canned earn it. Love and grace are the same. Krissi
I remember, many years ago, hearing John 3.16 for the first time and not having a clue as to what it meant. I think my problem was the word "begotten." At the time, I pulled that word apart into BE+GOTTEN, a combination of being and getting. In a way, this is what grace is. God graciously be-got his son -- He was given being and we "got" Him. We didn't deserve Jesus. We didn't ask for Him. We just got Him. He assumed the form of a "human being" so we'd be able to recognize, then accept, the gift of Him. (When seculars hear the gospel for the first time, or even subsequent times, their minds don't gloss over words that people within the Christian orbit seem to have imbibed.) t-c
God gave the world His only Son as a sacrifice for their sins. If grace is “God’s unmerited favor,” then it has to be a gift. Love! It is the motivation behind God’s gift/God’s grace. “For God so loved the world that He gave…”
Liliane
Grace is out of pure love. Out of love, without us having done anything, Jesus saved us by dying a death of cross. grace is implicit when john said not earned nor deserved
hanks
Q10. (John 3:16) How does John 3:16 display "favour that is neither earned nor deserved" without using the word 'grace'? What is the relationship between grace and giving? What motivates the gift in this verse? How does this relate to grace? God’s supernatural love is expressed in the giving of His most precious gift – His one and only Son. This gift demonstrates His grace, and is clearly shown to us by this sacrifice of Jesus. A grace that is shown through His love for mankind, to sinful people who don’t deserve it, and Him not wanting any to perish. By this sovereign grace we now have the gift of eternal life! – a gift, a grace that is given generously! The motivation for this gift is God’s love for us, a love that Jesus revealed to us by His death on the cross for our sins, and this while we were still sinners – a grace that is neither earned nor deserved. There can be no greater love than this. Jesus proves His infinite grace towards us by taking upon Himself all our sins, past, present, future, and transferring His righteousness upon ourselves. haar
Q10. (John 3:16) How does John 3:16 display "favor that is neither earned nor deserved" without using the word 'grace'? What is the relationship between grace and giving? What motivates the gift in this verse? How does this relate to grace? John 3:16 displays favour that is neither earned nor deserved without using the word ‘grace’ by just emphasizing the magnitude of God’s love that made him give his dear son to die for us while were still sinners. Grace leads to giving unconditionally. This gift is unmerited and is thus by grace.
blezed
Q10. (John 3:16) How does John 3:16 display “favor that is neither earned or deserved” without using the word ‘grace’? "Favor that is neither earned or deserved" is God gave what was most precious to him, out of love for his lost creation -- favor that is neither earned nor deserved. What is the relationship between grace and giving? The relationship between grace and giving is they both are freely and graciously given. What motivates the gift in this verse? How does this relate to grace? Motivation is love.
Rob Mc.
It begins with “For God so Loved the world.” Once again, in 6 words, God, out of his love for us is going to do something that we neither “earned” nor “deserve.” Sounds a lot like “grace” is on its way. So how will He provide His grace to us? He will complete this gift by tasking his “one and only Son” with the assignment of the ages, of all eternity. Like He asked of Abraham, He will sacrifice his Son for the well-being of everyone else ON EARTH, those in the past, present at that time and for all time to come (for anyone that accepts the Son and believes). We sinners do not have to do anything else. So, by Giving, God is bestowing His grace on us: Unearned and undeserved! Through the motivation of His love (agape) for a lost world, God blesses us. Now, we only have to believe, trust and love back the Man who sacrificed his life for us: the Son of God.

(John 3:16) How does John 3:16 display “favor that is neither earned or deserved” without using the word ‘grace’? What is the relationship between grace and giving? Because He loved us so much, His Creation, made in His image, seen our predicament, by sent His Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, to die in our place, to save us from an eternal hell. So in His wisdom made a way by us hearing the Gospel and believing and trusting in Him, not ourselves. He gave His life for us, even though we didn't deserve it. One motivates the other - Love gives! Love motivates the gift. Because of God's love for us, He continues to give us grace/favor in our relationship with Him.
Diane D.
This scripture indicates in the way that it is translated, that for God, it was an expression of his extreme love. I sometimes liken it to the way that a parent feels when observing their children and all their uniqueness with a sense of wonder and tenderness. We see God this way through the Old Testament as well as the New (with many other personal attributes!). God knows that we cannot dig out from our earthly existence on our own efforts, so He provides grace. Since we cannot earn it, we must accept His grace and the gift, because we certainly couldn't do it. The grace is the reaching out of God's arm to us for support. The gift is an expression and provision of a means to be supported.
pickledilly
Out of His great immeasurable love, God lavished mercy on an undeserving humanity. Out of love, He gave His only Son as the One qualified to take the judgment and destruction that we do deserve. He stood in our place and bore our death sentence for our iniquities, transgressions, and sins – motivated by that love and His compassion for the hopeless and doomed condition of mankind. This only bridge back to God is a gift no one deserves and no one can ever earn. A true gift is something you freely give out of love, and giving is an inherent component of grace and love. BoazNigel
"For God loved the world SO MUCH that He gave His one & only Son ... " (Jn 3:16, NLT) this is grace that for no other reason - nothing we did or deserved - but only because He loved us did God the Father send Jesus. Motivated solely by God's love, This is explained by the old acronym God's Riches At Christ's Expense.
Desta
Father God loved the unloved sinner and give freely he’s only begotten . Zanele Tlhakanelo
John 3:16 displays God's unconditional love that is insurmountable. We all did not deserve this but because of His love, He sacrificed His Only begotten Son for us to gain eternal life. Grace is the unmerited favor from God, that which we do not have to toil for to reserve but because of Him being the Loving Father, He continues to forgive us of our trespasses daily whereas giving does not have conditions. God does not expect us to pay Him back for giving us His Only begotten Son, but wants us to believe in Him and have eternal life. God's love that cannot be measured. The love that is unconditional and is for all mankind. This relates to grace because while we were still sinners, God loved us anyway and He had to sacrifice His Son so that we may receive the wonderful gift of Salvation. We paid nothing for salvation and this is all because of His Love and Grace.
AKINYELE AYOMIDE PETER
John 3:16) How does John 3:16 display “favor that is neither earned or deserved” without using the word ‘grace’? What is the relationship between grace and giving? What motivates the gift in this verse? How does this relate to grace? John 3:16 displays favor that is neither earned or deserved as the father gave up his son on the cross, as a sacrifice, favor was displayed by giving. Relationship between grace and giving is love. What motivates the gift is an intense degree of love from an holy God to undeserving sinners who are treading on a way of perdition a way that leads to destruction. Because it is unilateral one sided we don't deserve it.... It's at the owners disposition. Quote
Irmela
Q10. (John 3:16) How does John 3:16 display "favor that is neither earned nor deserved" without using the word 'grace'? What is the relationship between grace and giving? What motivates the gift in this verse? How does this relate to grace? Our (the human race) just desert is to perish, that is what we all deserved. But God because of His great love towards us, gave His only Son to save us. We did not deserve this favor. Grace is a favour that is undeserved. Bestowing a favour is bestowing a gift that is undeserved. To put it plainly "Grace is a gift that is given to an undeserving recipient". God's great love motivates Him to GIVE. This is true grace because the world did not deserve this favour, viz., to be saved.
PATCH
Q10. (John 3:16) How does John 3:16 display "favour that is neither earned nor deserved" without using the word 'grace'? God gave his one and only son to take on the sins of the world - even the sins of those who persecute and hate him. Who would give their one and only son to save a perverse and ungrateful world? Only God because of His great love for us. His love for us also caused him to grieve that man will perish because of man's sinful nature and state. Because of Jesus's love for us, he struggled at Gethsemane and suffered on the cross for all of us. Because of God's grace, he gave.
faith & hope 2017
I've learned that the word grace is seldom used in the Gospels, but its concept, the practice of grace is in the Gospels. We understand more clearly that Jesus is indeed full of grace and truth. Everyone that enounters Him is changed, which is evidence that His grace overflow onto those around Him. What I discovered is that grace is given only to those who first repent of their sins and receive the gife of salvation. Then we make a commitment to digently wholehearted decision to follow, obey, believe in, trust in and love Jesus. You cannot have the favor of God without His love because He is love. Since grace cannot be earned by works, and it is neither deserved because we all fall of short of God's glory, we all sinned. But our God still blesses us with His grace. Some receives gifts for doing something remarkable or performing an task that goes beyond the set standards, or in regonition of, but God gave us the gift of salvation. He is ultimate Gift-Giver and He gives to us out of His love for us. God's agape love for us motivate His gift to us in this verse. What God did for us in John 3:16 is the essence of grace. It is the underserved and unearned favor that makes a difference for us between life and death.
JOLLAM BANDA
John 3: 16 display “favour that is neither earned nor deserved” without using the word grace because God is giving out what is most precious to him (Jesus Christ), out of love for his lost creation. The giving by God of Jesus Christ for his lost creation is a favor that is neither earned nor deserved (grace). God is motivated by love for us, his creation so that if we trust in him, we don't get what we deserve -- to perish eternally -- but to possess eternal life with him. This is the of grace of God. Old Jerry
The way that John 3:16 displays “favor that is neither earned nor deserved” is by telling us how much He loves us. Grace is not earned where giving is something that could be earned. Love is what motivates the gift in this verse.
Lisa Wolf
Q10. (John 3:16) How does John 3:16 display “favor that is neither earned or deserved” without using the word ‘grace’? What is the relationship between grace and giving? What motivates the gift in this verse? How does this relate to grace? John 3:16 so often quoted to encapsulate the true good news of Christ, uses the words loved and gave to denote the 'grace' God bestows upon us freely. Grace can be given or received--it is not stagnating. As we walk with Jesus, we notice His grace filled ways in our lives which in turn enables us, by example, to extend grace to others. God's gift of His Son to the world exemplifies grace from God Himself and is motivated solely by His character.
