Q60. Scribes of the Kingdom

Recommended Posts

  • 6 months later...

The "old" is the Torah and the Old Testament. To us, from our perch in the 21st century, the "old" includes the New Testament as well. It is God's written, secure revelation, the ancient treasures in our safe.

The "new" is the current revelation by God, the whispering of the Spirit within as well as the manifestation of the power of the Spirit in our lives. It is the present working of the Spirit, that is, the Spirit of the moment ... of today.

To be cross-trained is to have both the discipline of the old as well as the spontaneity of the new; to have the stability and security of God's revelation in history as well as the newness and freshness of God's present revelation in our hearts.

Q60. (Matthew 13:51-52)

What is the "old" that the householder brings out of his treasure box? What is the "new." In what way must we disciples be "cross-trained" as scribes of the Kingdom?

Out of his treasure box the householder brings out old truth of the Old Testament which points the way to Jesus, the Messiah. The new are the parables Jesus taught His disciples, and once we understand His teachings, we are obliged to share this knowledge with others. Being cross-trained in both the OT as well as the NT we have a vast storehouse of knowledge and it is up to us the impart this glorious truth. Having learnt the truths of His Kingdom, as a disciple we are to freely distribute this treasure entrusted to us. We are able to use the old familiar facts and doctrines to illustrate the truths of the Kingdom. In the same way as we ourselves grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ, our Saviour, so we help others to grow spiritually as well. As we know, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16). And, “the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).

. (Matthew 13:51-52) What is the "old" that the householder brings out of his treasure box? What is the "new." In what way must we disciples be "cross-trained" as scribes of the Kingdom?

A60.

The “Old” refers to the teaching of the Old Testament where emphasis is in keeping the laws for righteousness. The “new” refers to teaching of new life obtained through the gospel of salvation by grace through faith in in Jesus Christ.

We as disciples must know the teaching of the Old Testament as well as the new that teaches salvation through the Lord Jesus by faith alone.

The od that is brought out of the treasure box is the law, the scriptures, and the understanding of them.

The new is sharing the good news, the gospel, and ministering to the needy.

We must be cross-trained as disciples that we know the scriptures, old and new, and preach the gospel, sharing the good news of salvation and ministering to all the needy and bring forth healing to the lost and hurting

Q60. Parable of the Scribes of the Kingdom (Matthew 13:51-52)

What is the “old” that the householder brings out of his treasure box?

ANSWER: The old treasures are time-tested lessons.

What is the “new” that the householder brings out of his treasure box?

ANSWER: The new is Jesus, who came not to abolish the law but to fulfill it.

In what way must we disciples be “cross-trained” as scribes of the Kingdom? ANSWER: “Cross-trained” involves the need to explain both the Old Testament prophecies and their accurate fulfillment in the New Testament era. Disciples are to be interpreters of the Bible. They are trained for the kingdom in that they are men and women who instruct others about the kingdom. They are to know the Word and apply it to life.

Disciples can speak authoritatively from the Bible and explain to men how God is working behind the scenes of history and how God works in the affairs of men.  All disciples of Christ are to interpret truth to apply it to their lives and the lives of others. Disciples of Christ are trained, discipled or instructed in or for the kingdom. This applies to all true disciples of Christ, not just to the original Twelve. Those disciples/teachers would need to show how both these treasured truths, (God's revelation in the Old Testament Scriptures and the new revelations of God's truth through Jesus Christ), fit together.

Sharing our faith isn’t just a suggestion, it’s a command. And God is with us when we obey Him. In the spiritual realm, the time for gathering in the harvest is now, whenever and wherever a crop of white-ripe souls exists. You can’t open someone’s heart to the truth of the Gospel but God can, by His Spirit. God does not call the equipped; He equips the called and as Christians, we are all called to share what Christ has done.

Q60. (Matthew 13:51-52) What is the "old" that the householder brings out of his treasure box? What is the "new." In what way must we disciples be "cross-trained" as scribes of the Kingdom?

The “old” is living under the Law and works. Never being able to keep it and constantly having to give a sacrifice when the Law is broken.

The “new” is living by grace. That Jesus has done it all by giving His life on a cross for our sins. No more do, because Christ has already done it.

Because they have the very difficult job of getting people to let go of the Law and to embrace grace. To declare that the new treasure is inherently much more valuable than the old treasure. “By letting your light shine before men in such a way that they see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”

Q60. (Matthew 13:51-52) What is the “old” that the householder brings out of his treasure box?  What is the “new.” In what way must we disciples be “cross-trained” as scribes of the Kingdom?

Disciples must be cross-trained because we need to develop our relationship skills with Our Father in so many areas such as, how does God expect us to know and live: mercy? grace? justice? love? patience? gentleness? His Word? and SO MANY other aspects. We walk with the Living God; our relationship with Him is dynamic. He teaches us, so we have old treasures to bring out as well as new ones.  Things He taught me long ago that were learned in times of adversity are pearls I can share with others as the Spirit leads me to do that. Nothing is wasted in the Kingdom of God; all is for good and for building up the Body of Christ.

Q60. (Matthew 13:51-52) What is the "old" that the householder brings out of his treasure box? The essential monumental events in the history of God and his covenent relationship with mankind.

What is the "new." The covenent of the end of the age to bring in all to the kingdom of God.

In what way must we disciples be "cross-trained" as scribes of the Kingdom? We need to know the very nature of the root and the stem of our vine. What nourishes it and what harms it. Then we must be skilled at bringing forth fresh new fruit.

Q60. (Matthew 13:51-52) What is the “old” that the householder brings out of his treasure box?  What is the “new.” In what way must we disciples be “cross-trained” as scribes of the Kingdom?

1. Living under the law and not being able to keep.

2. The new is being trained for the kingdom of heaven through Jesus.

3.  We must know how to walk in the spirit, preach, heal, witness, and teach the new wine of the gospel, which is Jesus Christ. We have to be able to listen for God's voice, heal the sick, comfort the hurting, and clearly explain the gospel of salvation.

Q60. (Matthew 13:51-52)

What is the "old" that the householder brings out of his treasure box?

Some old family heirlooms handed down from his grandfather's time, represent the Old Covenant.

What is the "new." In what way must we disciples be "cross-trained" as scribes of the Kingdom?

To be competent in the Scriptures as well as in sharing the Good News and ministering to the needy. To be able to listen for God's voice, heal the sick, explain the gospel of salvation in simple terms, and comfort the hurting. This covers the New Covenant in CHRIST JESUS. AMEN!!!

Q60. (Matthew 13:51-52)

What is the “old” that the householder brings out of his treasure box?

The correct teaching of all the OT Scriptures, but mainly the Torah which had been grossly misinterpreted in Jesus' day.

What is the “new.”?

The new is the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

In what way must we disciples be “cross-trained” as scribes of the Kingdom?

For many years I did not see the significance of the OT.  I studied the NT intently and passionately but avoided the OT as just history that no longer applied to my life.  But in 2017 God called me into an indepth study of the OT that lasted 6 years.  What I learned through my chronological walk through the OT is that every single book takes you deeper in your understanding of Jesus.  I have come to call the Bible the "Biography of Jesus Christ".  He truly is the Word of God and the entire Bible is the story of His mission to redeem a broken creation back to Himself.  I feel I am now a much better teacher and witness for God's Kingdom because there is so much treasure I had missed out on by skipping the OT and only focusing on the beautiful new Covenant we have in Christ.  I also have found that much of the NT has been made clearer because of my knowledge of OT laws and customs and history.  We cannot skip the old and just accept the new.  The treasure is in the entire story... the perseverance and patience of our God... His boundless Mercy and Grace... His Love for His creation is fully understood when we understand the entire story from beginning to end.

The old refers to the treasures such as the laws, prescripts and  beliefs of the Old Testament that were taught and people had to abide by. People had to obey all the laws and keep them as prescribed. The law was given by Moses and all had to follow that.

The new refers to the Gospel that teaches us that we were sinners but Christ came and died for our sins. We only have to believe in our hearts that Christ died for us and God resurrected Him from the dead and confess with our mouths that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior of our lives. We believe that grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

We are to be cross-trained because we believe in both the Old and the New Testaments because we can learn from both and know that heart of God from the beginning. We must preach the Word of God just like the prophets of God were able to warn people if they continued to sin and did not want to repent. We must continue to preach Christ resurrected and the eternal life so that people should know that it is only when we believe that Christ is the Lord and Savior of our lives.

Q60. (Matthew 13:51-52)

What is the "old" that the householder brings out of his treasure box?

What is the "new"?

In what way must we disciples be "cross-trained" as scribes of the Kingdom?

The "old" and the "new" are one in essence.  Two facts concerning the same things.

  • The principle is old the application is new
  • The root is old, the blossom and the fruit is new
  • The old things are the eternal things, the new things are the applications of these eternal things to the passing phases of changing times.
  • Destroy the old, then there is no new

The "old" that would come out of the treasure box would be the correct interpretation  of the Torah.  The "new" would be the application of that teaching in the present time and comforting the hurting, healing the sick, explaining the  Gospel of Salvation in terms that are understood.  Both are vital.

Without the "old" there is no "new".  The "cross-training" is important.

  • Scribes  = moral rulers
  • Elders    = civil rulers
  • Priests   = spiritual rulers

The scribes were the official interpreters of the Law  (leave out all the traditions that were added,  that clouded the law)

The “old” that the householder has that he brings out of his treasure box is the Old Testament. The new that he brings out is the New Testament. We must be like Paul and try to be everything to everybody that will bring them to the Kingdom of God.
