Krissi
Perhaps the "big deal" of regeneration is its invisible, unfelt rendering of a "not guilty" verdict. I tend to see regeneration through the prism of my own life and needs, as something that changes me, but it's real significance may be not IN ME, but BETWEEN me and God. This may be no more than the relational aspect of salvation/regeneration that so many stress, rightly. Increasingly, too, I see salvation as less of a choice than of election, though it's scary to say this. Also, as evangelists (which we all should be) my words matter less than the Spirit working though those words. God calls. God saves. God sanctifies. Diane D.
Our spiritual state was so bad prior to salvation that we relied on the world and its ways and its nature. What is new? Our heart, for one. It is the one thing that is not healed or purified. It is so bad, that it is totally new, replaced. We also have a new teacher and are grafted into Jesus' family. The Holy Spirit is our guide, our comforter, our teacher actively involved in our day to day life.
Clelie
Before salvation we were blind and lost to the ways of eternal death even unaware of it. We were living entirely in ways that were opposite to God’s eternal life when salvation came we were as if waken up from some hidden light and became aware of our state of sinfulness as the Holy Spirit brings conviction. The Holy Spirit as His name implies brings transformations in our inner being and help in the gradual but consistent process of making us live a righteous holy life as we are set apart for God that leads to eternal life . Eldress Rowe
Actually we had no spiritual state before regeneration, We were wicked, foolish, disobedient, and in bondage to sin. We were alienated from God, His enemies, and helpless to do anything about it. After salvation we become new creatures. Although we are in the same flesh but we have a new heart, a new spirit formed in the soul, newness of life, and conversation. Our hearts have been purified by faith and our consciences purged from sin by the blood of Jesus Christ. The role of the Holy Spirit in our salvation is to keep us .It quickens us, lead and guides us, strengthens and helps us. It is only through the power of the Holy Spirit that we first receive God's word as divine and we are saved through the washing of rebirth and the renewal of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit justifies us , acquitting us of sin and then initiates the lifelong process of sanctification. In sanctification the Holy Spirit helps us mortify sin, produces such attributes as love, joy, peace, righteousness, hope, fruits of the Spirit. enables us to perform our duty, and walk in God's ways. Niyonka16
Q5. (Titus 3:5-8) If "regeneration" is necessary, what does that imply about our spiritual state before salvation? ANSWER: Regeneration is God’s making a person spiritually alive, as a result of faith in Jesus Christ. Spiritually, it means that God brings a person to new life (that they are "born again") from a previous state of separation from God and subjection to the decay of death (Ephesians 2:5). Sinful human flesh cannot stand in God’s presence. a man must be born again in order to see the kingdom of God. Regeneration is not optional, for “flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.” Physical birth fits us for earth; Spiritual rebirth fits us for heaven. Regeneration is part of what God does for us at the moment of salvation, along with sealing, adoption, reconciliation, etc … Prior to salvation we were not God’s children rather, we were children of wrath. Before salvation, we were degenerate; after salvation we are regenerated. The result of regeneration is peace with God, new life and eternal sonship. Regeneration begins the process of sanctification wherein we become the people God intends us to be. The only means of regeneration is by faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross. No amount of good works or keeping of the Law can regenerate the heart. We don’t need renovation or reformation or reorganization; we need rebirth. What is "new" after salvation? ANSWER: First, the Holy Spirit comes to live in your heart. He is the key to many more positive changes yet to come. What is the role of the Holy Spirit in our salvation? ANSWER: The role of the Holy Spirit in salvation is the Holy Spirit first exposes and convicts him of his sin. This sin-confronting ministry continues through the believer’s life, as the Spirit generates deeper conviction and sincere repentance, as believers grow into conformity unto the holy Christ. What is the role of the Holy Spirit in our sanctification? ANSWER: Sanctification is the process of becoming like Jesus, a gift of the fullness of salvation. The Holy Spirit is essential to sanctification, and it is a continuous process of being made perfect in the love of God and removing the desire to sin. Sanctification is the work of the Holy Spirit, as he binds us to the Christ who, at his resurrection, not only overwhelms the guilt of sin (for our forgiveness), but conquers the power of sin and death (for our holiness). Sanctification is secured by Jesus; it is given to us and worked in us by His Spirit. Scripture is essential to sanctification, and spending time in the Word of God is not to make us smarter sinners but to make us more like the Savior. Jonathan Edwards
Regeneration: God does the saving. We couldn't redeem ourselves due to original sin. The Word of God is the living water that washes, regenerates, redeems us. When we receive the Word of God the HOLY Spirit takes up His abode in our hearts. Prior to accepting Christ as personal Saviour, we were in a state of sin; we were dead in our trespasses. Now being converted we have different desires, hopes, and plans. The Holy Spirit has been poured richly on us who believe. The Holy Spirit is the author of our salvation, and gives the ability to live a sanctified lifestyle. We now can do good works and produce fruit. We have been baptized into Christ and put on Christ. The Holy Spirit is the Vicar of Christ here on earth preparing the Church the Bride of Christ for the second Advent.
hanks
Q5. (TITUS 3:5-8) If "regeneration" is necessary, what does that imply about our spiritual state before salvation? What is "new" after salvation? What is the role of the Holy Spirit in our salvation? In our sanctification? We are all born sinners, and are spiritually dead, only deserving eternal punishment from God. But God saved us because of His great mercy, lovingkindness, and earned salvation for us by Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. He made us spiritually alive by giving us new-birth, regeneration – we are now a new creation, a new creature (2 Cor 5:17). Regeneration was necessary because of our deprived state. After salvation we now have a new heart, a new mind, and a new will - old things have passed away, all things have become new. We are not the same anymore, the Holy Spirit has given us new life, we are now living in union with Christ (Col 2:6-7). We have the Holy Spirit as a deposit who will help us in our Christian journey as we strive to be daily more and more like our Lord Jesus. There will still be battles with sin, but the fruit of the Spirit starts becoming more visible to us and to others in our life. Sanctification is the progressive work in which the Holy Spirit helps us become more and more free from sin and continues throughout our earthly lives. Our sanctification will never be completed in this life. But once we die and go to be with the Lord, we are set free from indwelling sin and are made perfect.
