Pastor Ralph
Q41. (1 Timothy 6:3-4,17; Colossians 2:18) Why does having an abundance of wealth and knowledge tend to make us feel superior? Why do false doctrines and heresies often come with a feeling of superiority over lesser Christians who believe differently? How can you show humility if you are wealthy? How can the well-educated show humility?
Brother Clifford wilson
Q41. (1 Timothy 6:3-4,17; Colossians 2:18) 1. Why does having an abundance of wealth and knowledge tend to make us feel superior? Some people confuse earthly values with Godly abundances. Money and higher education has its rewards in earthly gains and its treasures. Properity preachers misinterpret scripture to justify their sense of Godliness and its rewards in material things .Jesus makes it clear when he saids seek your treasure in heaven. 2. Why do false doctrines and heresies often come with a feeling of superiority over lesser Christians who believe differently? False doctrine, adding to or taking awawy from the word of God. This is a attempt to gain superiority over others especially christians that read their bible and know the word of God. Suppressing people is a attempt to justify a false doctrine in the local church at times. Omission of true doctrine is being attempted also. True disciples of Jesus learn that the truth is in the bible and they must not add to or take from scripture. 3. How can you show humility if you are wealthy? Jesus teaches that the weathy and the poor sit together as brothers under one teaching and one doctrine. The Gospel of Jesus Christ. The wealthy humbles himself by showing his humility, with acts of compassion and love, helping the poor, magnifying the lowly person and the Christ within all man. Honring God above all earthly values. Praying together and glorifing the Lord with acts of generosity and compassion as directed by the indwelling spirit 4.How can the well-educated show humility? The same as the uneducated person, by walking with the Lord Jesus teaches about the hardships involving the educated and the wealthy. The showing of humility is a gift of God, God directs the literate and the unliterate God directs us how to use our gifts in his time. The educated are in a place where they can teach and relate Christ teaching in a teachable format, to others of lessor education. We are moved by faith,as we pray and talk with God. voluntariying, teaching bible school, sharing knowledge with the less fortunate.
Clelie
Having abundance of wealth and knowledge can create a feeling of pride and superiority so we are puffed up. It can tempt us to forget that it is God who provides the ability to be wealthy or full of knowledge . Those who hold false teachings and heretics are deeply convicted that they are the right ones. They live a lie and are being deceived through their arrogance and cannot accept contradictions. We must acknowledge that wealth is a gift from God and need to be a good steward of it. Not used for our selfishness but share it with those who don’t have with a humble and grateful heart . Same for those who are gifted in knowledge bearing in mind that God is the owner and Giver of all good gifts. He is the One to Whom we have to give an account of our use of His gifts as we handle them with humility and gratefulness. .
Nicolaas A.P. Mostert
Q41. (1 Timothy 6:3-4,17; Colossians 2:18) Why does having an abundance of wealth and knowledge tend to make us feel superior? When we tend to spend more time in gaining wealth and knowledge our outlook to others tend to blur. Why do false doctrines and heresies often come with a feeling of superiority over lesser Christians who believe differently? Those who spread false doctrine has a overpowering mentality that wants to rule over other people. How can you show humility if you are wealthy? Accept we are all of GOD, we are equal and GOD loves us all. Share your wealth with others in need. How can the well-educated show humility? Drop their title for a change and come to the ground to meet others there.
hanks
It is so easy for us to take credit for everything we have achieved, our wealth, our knowledge, our possessions; forgetting who gave us the ability and opportunities for such success. We push God to the background and become proud of our own hard work and ability. Never thanking our Lord for everything we have, and not realising that all is due to His grace upon grace, and that we are here manage it for Him. Wealth, honour, power, and/or prestige add nothing to our value in God's eyes; only the faithful work we do for Him has eternal value. False doctrines can lead to a feeling of superiority; perhaps it’s the thinking of knowing something others don’t. Being wealthy and well-educated is a great responsibility but a wonderful opportunity to help those in need and to spread the gospel. In both cases we are not to be arrogant and not looking down upon people but rather trying to help others with love.
Lisa Wolf
Why do we feel superior with wealth and knowledge? Perhaps that false sense of security and false thinking of our own self-importance. False doctrine and heresy often come with feeling of superiority because the people in cults are deceived--whether it be a 'religious' cult or a 'cult' faction of our local culture. If you are wealthy, you can show humility by the way you live--not flaunting your wealth-- and by your generosity. The well-educated can show humility in stating tand living in such a way that shows that they do not know everything!!!!
Krissi
Going from wealth/knowledge to poverty/doubt and then back makes your feeling toward wealth 2.0 and knowledge 2.0 very, very different than your 1.0 version! Humility can be learned the hard way. Hiding who you are seems the best way to be humble. If no one knows you have great wealth, which is easy to hide, then you won't get the sort of social affirmation that comes from wealth. You'll look and act like everyone else -- no one will know! Of course, giving it away is best. And permanent. If you give it away, you can’t be tempted to revert to being proud of your wealth. Having written this, there is a sort of person who is entrepreneurial and knows it. He is confident in his own abilities to restore his fortune, and, I suppose that confidence is a form of pride. So even poverty doesn’t necessarily stem the pride of a person who is a successful entrepreneur at heart. It should be mentioned that the problem isn't just the proud person, but the crowds of wannabe wealthy Christians who constantly look at his wealth with envy. The flip side of pride is envy. Pride doesn't exist in a vacuum. Regarding education … that’s a bit more difficult to “hide” education because it is the lens through which you look at the world. It is part of you in a way that wealth is not. You can't give it away, that is. That lens of education should be modified by faith but is still there. And it does tend to make you judge people both critically and often rightly. It’s the correctness of your judgements that make them so hard to get rid of. When you see Christians “go off the deep end” theologically, it’s not like you’re going to change your mind. Nor should you. So, is this judgment pride? Yes, I suppose it is, but it’s also correct and shouldn’t be changed. The goal is to love anyway. To love the errant. To love the bizarre. You must know, in your heart, that you're one stupid thought away from being errant and bizarre yourself! That's humility.
