Sue
lesson 4 Q4: (a) God went through the covenant ritual with Abraham, with the divided carcasses because God was binding himself solemnly to his promise ( God binds himself to a solemn promise because to make it a unilateral promise that God pledges to fulfil in the most solemn and binding way. © Abraham responds to God's promise by believing the Lord. Abraham puts his trust in the certainty of God's promise afresh. His confidence takes on a new steadfastness. He believes God's promise will certainly be fulfilled. (d) The significance blood sacrifice have in those promises is it made a covenant or cut a covenant. We have a covenant with our Lord Jesus Christ because of His blood that He shed on Calvary. Amen! warrior
Q4 (15:17-18a) Why did God go through the covenant ritual with Abraham, with the divided carcasses? Why does God bind himself to a solemn promise? How does Abraham respond to God's promises (15:6)? What promises has God made to us that affect our futures? What significance does blood sacrifice have in those promises? Before man was God had in heaven a plan already set up for the sacrifices that would be needed but when man sinned in the garden the plan had to be executed and even at that time required a blood sacrifice for fallen man to be clothed. He had lost the covering of God's glory when he sinned and had to have the skins to cover them. It was for the building of Abrahams faith and to raise up a pure line for the one day final sacrifice of His Son that God used a convenant ritual. God cannot lie and is bound by any promise he makes, His covenant was a promise but to bind a covenant the shedding of a blood sacrifice was the only way for the remission of sins which was latter taken away through the shedding of Jesus blood. God has never changed and His promises are as much for us today and in the day of Abraham, to those who have repented and became sons of God
sjb
It is our nature to be ritualistic. Besides that, as a teacher I know that we learn best when started from a concrete approach, rather than an abstract approach. God knows our nature; God knows the way we learn;God made us, so He knows us through and through. He used the ritual, instead of just telling him, to ensure Abraham's learning what He was teaching. Abraham responded to God's tutelage with faith and trust. That is why he was considered as righteous. God was preparing us for the ultimate blood sacrifice, that of His son Jesus. When we Christians partake of the Lord's Supper, we are using the ritual to show God that we REMEMBER our lesson--that we have everlasting life through His promise. JustJeff
With God there can be no lies and He has demonstrated this to Abraham by a ritual that seems to be acceptable to a mere mortal. Abraham has shown great faith which Yah has counted as righteousness, accepting the trust that Abraham has placed in Him. There are a multitude of promises that Adonai has made to us that effect our path. To me, being born again has given me a new life with a new future with Jesus during which His Holy Spirit will enable me to do great things so that through Him, the Father will be glorified. Patricia A
Q4 (15:17-18a) Why did God go through the covenant ritual with Abraham, with the divided carcasses? Why does God bind himself to a solemn promise? How does Abraham respond to God's promises (15:6)? What promises has God made to us that affect our futures? What significance does blood sacrifice have in those promises? God make a unilateral promise that He pledges to fulfill in the most solemn and binding way. We Christians know the end of the story, where God himself bears -- in the broken body of his innocent Son -- the penalty for man's breaking of the covenant. Abram believed in God as promising Christ. God has made to us the promise of eternal life with Him. All we need to do is accept it. Jesus was the lamb of God who was slain so that we may enjoy salvation and eternal life with God.
Jewell
God went through the covenant ritual with Abraham to bind himself solemnly to his promise. He was making a unilateral pledge to Abraham. Abraham believed Him. God has promised to always be with us. He has promised that he has a plan for us. He has promised us eternal life. emmaus
God went through the covenant ritual to confirm his promise to Abraham. This was the accepted way to seal a treaty in those times. God did this as a sign for Abraham that he would keep his promises to Abraham. Abraham responded by believing God. God has promised that those who believe in Jesus and are baptized are forgiven of the their sins, eternal life, to supply our every need. The significance of the blood sacrifice is that these promises are fulfilled by the blood of Christ.

Craig
Q4 (15:17-18a) Why did God go through the covenant ritual with Abraham, with the divided carcasses? Why does God bind himself to a solemn promise? How does Abraham respond to God's promises (15:6)? What promises has God made to us that affect our futures? What significance does blood sacrifice have in those promises? He was sealing the covenant himself by passing through the divided carcasses. God binds Himself to a solemn promise because of his integrity. God doesn't break promises. Abraham responds to God's promises by believing and placing his faith in God. Most importantly, God has promised eternal life or fellowship with Him to those who believe that His son, Jesus Christ, died on the cross for the atonement of our sin. God has promised to forgive our sin, if we confess our sin to Him with repentant hearts. Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. God promises completeness, wholeness, and eternal life to those who permit Him to be their God and follow his commandants and instructions. From Genesis to Revelation God promises many things to those who honor, trust, and obey Him. Read the life giving, Word of God regularly. Know the promises. The significance of the blood sacrifice was that if the covenant sealer broke the covenant, that he might be cursed with the same kind of infliction that inflicted the sacrificed animals. Why does God bind himself to a solemn promise? How does Abraham respond to God's promises (15:6)? What promises has God made to us that affect our futures? What significance does blood sacrifice have in those promises? Because God's covenant with Abraham was a serious business and also this was customary way to ratify a contract of Covenant. This action symbolized the judgment on anyone who broke the contact. It represented an incredible promises from God and huge responsibility for Abraham. Abraham believed and trusted what God had promised him. We are all accustomed to promises. We are also accustomed to seeing them made and broken. Anyone who has lived for a number of years would certainly never lay claim to having kept every promise made. There are many reasons why this is true. Sometimes we forget, sometimes we are negligent, and sometimes it may be due to circumstances beyond our control. A Covenant Sealed with Blood The best of the covenants of promise God made still lie in the future.

Paul H
Why did God go through the covenant ritual with Abraham, with the divided carcasses? To make a unilateral pledge to Abraham to fulfill His promises to him. Why does God bind himself to a solemn promise? God's promises to us are always solemn and will always be kept. He shows this to Abraham by going through the customary ritual of the day used to witness a covenant, which was a custom with which Abraham would no doubt have been farmiliar and which he would have respected. How does Abraham respond to God's promises In the case of this particular act by which God makes His covenant with Abraham, Abraham's response is not recorded. However, generally Abraham has faith in God's promises, although he does invariably have the usual human reaction such as "How can this be? What promises has God made to us that affect our futures? God has promised us many things which affect our futures, but most importantly He has promised that if we believe in Him He will take us to be with Him forever. What significance does blood sacrifice have in those promises? Gods promise of the forgiveness of sins and eternal life could not have been given without the shedding of the blood of Jesus for us on the cross. This is the new and ultimate sacrifice and one which was crucial for us all.

Why does God bind himself to a solemn promise? How does Abraham respond to God's promises (15:6)? What promises has God made to us that affect our futures? What significance does blood sacrifice have in those promises? It was God who went through the divided carcasses to prove to Abraham that He would keep His promises. What significance does blood sacrifice have in those promises? God had made promises to Abraham and the Abraham was taken by the enormity of the promise, he found it difficult to see how such promises could work out. The sacrifices God showed to Abraham where a shadow of the true sacrifice of Jesus. We in times past also doubted Gods plan of salvation for us. But thankfully He let me see His glorious sacrifice, Jesus Christ on Calvary. We have a great God who keeps His promises to us.

Why does God bind himself to a solemn promise? How does Abraham respond to God's promises (15:6)? What promises has God made to us that affect our futures? What significance does blood sacrifice have in those promises? Abraham understood covenants and he knew what they meant, and God wanted to do that for him. So Abraham would have confidence that God intended to keep his word . Maybe the dividing of carcasses in half has something to do with me being responsible for keeping the covenant as much as God is in doing His part to keep the covenant? Abraham believed!!!!!. He has several promises, He directs my path, plans my future, has an exceedingly great reward for me. The shed blood covers my sin, brings me into right relationship with God though the blood of Jesus Christ. You must have blood to make a covenant binding. So all parties are committed to the contract, or there will be penalties if you do not fulfill you responsibilities.

Foofee's Nana
Why did God go through the covenant ritual with Abraham, with the divided carcasses? Because He is God and this was a solemn vow, a promise, a covenant. Why does God bind himself to a solemn promise? I think that Yahweh bound Himself to that promise to show us His love and divinity, by His oath we would know how important He considers this. How does Abraham respond to God's promises (15:6)? He believed God...he believed and trusted. What promises has God made to us that affect our futures? He has promised the forgivenenss of sin, the hope of eternal life....a future of glory in heaven with Him. What significance does blood sacrifice have in those promises? The shedding of blood in the animals was the way of this time ( and still is in other cultures), it was to show the solemn nautre of this contract and I think it was also a "type" of Christ, all was done by the shedding of blood. It is awe inspirong to know that God walked between the two halves of the animals to show that He is so good and faithful.

Alan8
Q4 (15:17-18a) Why did God go through the covenant ritual with Abraham, with the divided carcasses? Why does God bind himself to a solemn promise? How does Abraham respond to God's promises (15:6)? What promises has God made to us that affect our futures? What significance does blood sacrifice have in those promises? In Genesis 15:8 Abraham said, "Lord God, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?" When he asked, God entered into a covenant with Abraham. It was a covenant accompanied by signs,. sacrifices and a solemn oath that sealed the relationship with blessings and cursings for keeping or breaking it. By using the divided carcasses the parties of the covenant walked between the divided carcasses actually putting a curse on themselves in effect saying may I be cut up too like these carcasses if I violate the terms of this covenant. Both parties to the covenant are to walk between the pieces. The interesting thing about this covenant was that God only walked through these pieces binding Himself to this covenant. There was 2000 years ago another who made a covenant with mankind. When Jesus died on Calvary that blood was better than any animal blood and it was a binding covenant. When Jesus cried it is finished it meant not just the plan of salvation is completed but also a binding covenant on the part of God that He will fulfill His promises to us if we will believe like Abraham.
