Carolynne Speck
The oil in the healing prayer represents the presence of the Lord. We must put our trust in God for His power to flow freely. If we have faith as small as a mustard seed God can heal us. JustJeff
Oil represents the annointing of the Holy Spirit and is a tangible asset that strengthens the faith of believers. I have always thought that the best demonstration of faith is prayer. Without faith, there is no prayer. By utilizing faith the prayers are able to accept the result of the prayer as God's will for the person prayed for, giving Him all glory and honor. Confession is healing to the soul which is not coincidental to this set of scriptures.
plethra
Q3. (5:14-16) In the healing prayer, what is the role of oil? What is the role of the prayer of faith? What is the role of faith? What is the role of confession of sins? The oil is a symbolic point of contact representing the power of the Holy Ghost. Just as babtism is an outward act of an inward belief that God has saved them. The prayer of faith is the prayer that one prays to God expecting healing. It is the coming together of more than one person believing that God both hears and answers prayer. Faith is what moves God. God is not moved by pain or grief or any such thing but He is moved by faith. Without faith it is impossible to please God. Faith is what moves mountains. Sickness is a major mountain in our lives. Confession of sins is part of what cleanses us and makes us new. If we refuse to confess then we probably are not willing to acknowledge the fact the we/I have done anything wrong. If we acknowledge our sins and confess them, then that prepares us for the healing we desire. Unconfessed sin is a land mine of satan. If we have unconfessed sin the satan will constantly badger us with the thought of that sin and bring us into condemnation and a lack of faith. We feel that God will not hear us because of our sin. Jewell
Among other things, the annointing of oil is a symbol of the presence of the Holy Spirit. The elders' prayer of faith is what affects the healing and should be administered to body, soul, and spirit. Confession of sins is important because we must first admit to the sin before it can be forgiven. Denial is easy, rationalization is easy - confession takes courage, not only in admitting the sin, but in the commitment to change.

BJB123
1) The role of the oil is to set a person "apart" (prepared for anointing of the Holy Spirit) for healing. 2) The role of Prayer of Faith is the beginning of the healing. Without Faith, there would be no healing. 3) Role of Faith activates healing from God. 4) Role of Confession of sins.....Confession (repenting of sins) will cause the sin to leave therefore then healing can take place. Busy Lizzie
Q3. (5:14-16) In the healing prayer, what is the role of oil? What is the role of the prayer of faith? What is the role of faith? What is the role of confession of sins? [/quote The role of oil in healing prayer is that of enabling the pray-ers to enhance their faith by creating a focus and contact point as they pray. Oil is used in the Old Testament to anoint things and people and set them aside for God. A sign of sanctification. In the New Testament it is closely linked to the Holy Spirit. The role of the prayer of faith is one of making the sick person well; that is made well by God. The role of faith, especially that of the elders, is one of bringing down to earth God's power and healing the prayed for person. Although not all sickness is caused by sin, often it is wise to think about whether or not sin may be making the problem worse. The power of confession is to set a person free from the sin and help them be accountable to another. It enhances the power of prayer, as, "the prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective" (James 5:16).
Tina
Q3. (5:14-16) In the healing prayer, what is the role of oil? What is the role of the prayer of faith? What is the role of faith? What is the role of confession of sins? Oil is the anointing of the Holy Spirit and is the medium used as a symbol of Him when healing is desired and prayed for. The prayer of faith is a witness to others as well as the sick person, not forgetting satan, that God is listening and will heal. Faith opens the recipients heart in belief so that the Holy Spirit can move freely in the persons's heart, mind and soul. Faith believes, it is positive, it trustsd and it witnesses to others that God will hear the prayer. Cofessing sins signifies to the world that we have turned our backs on the darkness and are walking into the Light. Confession of sins also speeds up the answer to prayer as ther is no sin between man and God.
riyamg
Q3. (5:14-16) In the healing prayer, what is the role of oil? The oil in the healing prayer should be acting as a mediator. I think the oil application gives the feeling of some gesture or act done towards getting the healing and more over, this act is done by the elders and that acts as an image of authority doing a mediation to heal the person. What is the role of the prayer of faith? Role of the prayer of faith in the healing ministry is something that is of utmost value. The prayer with faith is what God wants from us. Prayer of faith is fruitful and yeilds the blessing of God. What is the role of faith? Without faith nothing is possible and this message is strongly mentioned throughout the book of James. Faith is the factor by which all the elements in a christian life is determined. And all things are possible through faith. What is the role of confession of sins? God wants us to be pure in our hearts and be singleminded when we come to Him.Confession makes that possible. It helps us get reconciled to our Father in Heaven and live a life that He desires us to live.

Peggy Crans
Q3. (5:14-16) In the healing prayer, what is the role of oil? What is the role of the prayer of faith? What is the role of faith? What is the role of confession of sins? The oil represents the Holy Spirit and the presince of the Lord at the healing moment. The prayer of faith is just that. It is the strong knowing down deep inside of us that God hears our prayers honors them. It is the prayer of the one praying for the sick that is faith in action. Faith is knowing He is always there for us and we can call on Him at any time. It is our faith that moves mountains and heals the sick. Without faith we are helpless to please God. Confession of sins is part of the healing and cleansing process. The Bible tells us if we confess our sins He is faithful to forgive us our sins. Confession to someone we trust makes us more accountable of what we have done wrong. It makes us take a long look at ourselves and process what lessons we have learned and to realize that we have sinned against God. This starts a cleansing process and refreshes us for a new life in Christ. We need to confess our sins and not give satan a foothold in our lives. He will take every advantage of the circumstances and we will never be free as long as he(satan)has something he can taunt us with.
C Riv
Q3. (5:14-16) In the healing prayer, what is the role of oil? What is the role of the prayer of faith? What is the role of faith? What is the role of confession of sins? In ancient times oil and perfumes or fragrances were found good for healing, and was used for cleansing before soaps were discovered. In Exodus 30 vs 20 -32 God instructed Moses on which ingredients to use and how much of each and that was to be the Holy healing anointed oil and administered by the high priest only. The role of the oil is to heal, thru the Holy Spirit. I think that the prayer of faith shows that you believe in the Lord, even though you can`t see Him, you can see the medicine but your hope is in the Lord for it is Him who heals whether by miracle or by medicine. The role of faith is to give us hope, which will give us strength ,and also bring us peace and understanding. Confession of sin reconsiles us with the one or ones we have trespassed against. We need do to that to set ourselves straight so that the Holy Spirit can work in us.
smithj7
Q3. (5:14-16) In the healing prayer, what is the role of oil? What is the role of the prayer of faith? What is the role of faith? What is the role of confession of sins? In the healing prayer, what is the role of oil? In modern times the symbol of oil is lost to most even in many churches. Some even say it isn't necessary as oil was falsely used for medicinal purposes. But oil within Judaism, was closely related to the anointing power of the Holy Spirit. Oil was not just used for healing, but to ordain or set apart leaders, priests, holy things. What is the role of the prayer of faith? What is the role of faith? "And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven." (5:15) Often people will say the right words, and today they may even focus intellectually on saying words, but they may not EXPECT an answer. The person praying must BELIEVE, know in the heart, that God will heal. The sick person in calling the elders is acting on FAITH. The elders, God willing, are praying in FAITH. What is the role of confession of sins? In some cases, not all, sin can cause sickness. Healing should be both physical and spiritual. Unconfessed sins can block the healing power because of disbelief or unwillingness to repeat to God. For some reason, most denominational churches do not provide a venue for confession of sins to one another. The Catholic church has confession of sins but it really isn't to one another. There is a two tier model, the ones representing GOD and the ones who are the sinners. But it seems that James is really talking about a typical Christian confessing sin to a typical Christian or Christian(s). I feel this is especially true when one sins against another. The confessing of the sin can be healing. For example, when we were young and if we had siblings, we might have allowed our brother or sister take the blame for what we did. The GUILT, for many, may have lead us to go back our parent(s) and confess our sin. The RELEASE of the guilt, if this happened to you, was fantastic; the forth coming punishment welcome and less severe. This section of the lesson concludes with the following words that seem to highlight the importance of confession: James says, "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective" (5:16). After confession comes prayer, and from the prayer of faith comes healing. I'm told Oil a physical/mental feeling of the anointing, the transfer on the power of God; the parable of the ten virgins & oil I have not digested, but understand those with oil went with Jesus not the others. wifee
It is symbolic of the anointing of the Holy Spirit and provides a stimulus for faith. The pray-er's faith is key here, their faith brings God's healing and forgiveness of sins to the sick person. To confess sin is to humble oneself and repent. By verbally confessing it to another we demonstrate our willingness to obey God and be humbled. We also are letting it go. What a load off of one's chest to confess. It must then be followed by prayer to heal. (A symbol of bandaging the wound so healing can occur). I found your posting helpful and agree the role of the oil in the healing prayer is symbolic of the anointing of the Holy Spirit. The prayer's faith is key to allowing God to heal. as it is through their faith and the sick person's faith God can heal. To confess any sins to another person is humbling ourselves, and repent, showing a willingness to obey God. We are letting go to let God. ljmnkscart
The oil represent the presence of the Holy Spirit. Oil can be used in any circumstance where and when the Holy Spirit is used for anointing for whatever purpose, be it for healing or for an office or position. The prayer of faith is that the person who is doing the praying must have bold, believing faith when he or she partitions God. It is this prayer that effects the healing of a person. The role of faith is the faith or belief of the person who is requesting the prayer of faith. There must be some faith from the person who is being prayed over. The role of confession of sins is that and I speak from experience when you confess certain sins openly to another Christian be it a pastor or layperson you seem to have more determination to overcome that sin. You have now confessed to someone else other than God and you become accountable not only to God but to that person also and it make you try harder not to ever committ that sin again. Old Jerry
In the healing prayer, the role of the oil is to bring faith to the person that is being prayed over by applying the oil. The role of the prayer of faith is that he does have faith. He is the one asking for intercession from God to heal that person. The role of the confession of sins is to get the person to see his sins so that they can be prayed for.
ragnew
(5:14-16) In the healing prayer, what is the role of oil? What is the role of the prayer of faith? What is the role of faith? What is the role of confession of sins? I think that the oil is symbolic of the Holy Spirit and is a good visual reminder that the healing work is God's work, not the work of a person. The anointing of oil helps ensure that all the glory goes to God for this healing work. It is the prayer offered in faith that makes the sick person well, but it is the Lord who raises the person up. It is the faith of those that are praying that is the catalyst to the Lord's healing work. Sometimes our sicknesses are a direct result of sin in our lives. It is important to have confessed these sins to God, repented and asked for forgiveness and also that we confess to those we have sinned against and sought forgiveness from them. When we are right before God and man our prayers are more effective and powerful.
