JoanG
The people turned their backs from God and started to worship false god and money as their true god. God worked hard to bring his people out of the land of slavery. He was supplying all that they needed up to this point. I believe that God has a right to be able to destroy what he has created when it is not perfect in his eyes. Just like an artist that will throw away objects that do not come out right. A person will rip up a manuscript that does not read the right way. So if a person is not what God really intended, I believe that God should have the right to destroy it. Old Jerry
Yes, what the people had done was that bad. God had brought them out of Egypt and had protected them all the way and now they want to worship an idol. God loved them enough to protect them but when you go against God’s commandments He gets angry. If He didn’t get angry then we would have a God that we could manipulate into doing anything. God has a tough group of people to work with so it could have been better to start all over.
Konki
The people of Isreal made an animal(golden calf) and worshipped it saying that this God has brought them out of Egypt. They have forgotten the living God. God is angry at the sin and not the sinner. Inspite of God's provision, protection they rebelled against God. God is loving and merciful towards people who repent and turn from their wicked ways.

Stanley Tavaziva
Even though Israel had seen the invisible God in action, they still wanted the familiar gods they could see and shape into whatever image they desired. Our great temptation is still to shape God to our liking, to make him convenient to obey or ignore. God responds in great anger when his mercy is trampled on. The gods we create blind us to the love that our loving God wants to shower on us. God cannot work in us when we elevate anyone or anything above him. God was ready to destroy the whole nation of Israel because of their sin. But Moses pleaded for mercy, and God spared them. This is one of the countless examples in the Bible of God’s mercy. Although we deserve his anger, he is willing to forgive and restore us to himself. We can receive God’s forgiveness from sin by asking him. Like Moses, we can pray that he will forgive others and use us to bring them the message of his mercy.
Dek
On 9/5/2005 at 5:17 PM, Pastor Ralph said: Q1. Read Exodus 32:1-14. What had the people done that was so bad? How can a loving God be angry? Is God's sentence to destroy Israel and raise up a new nation through Moses justified? The people had asked Aaron to make a god that they could see and so he collected all the gold they had taken with them when they left Egypt and formed a golden calf. As if that wasn't bad enough they blasphemed God by saying to the people "here is your god who brought you out of Egypt" and then they used it as an altar and made burnt offerings. How can a loving parent on earth be angry with their children and punish them. The Israelites sinned by making an idol. The consequences of sin is death under the law. It is only by God's love and mercy that we get anything but death. God's sentence was justified because the Israelites were guilty of idol worship and blasphemy. According to the Bible, blasphemy is the unpardonable sin!
Merry
What had the people done that was so bad? They broke the first of the Ten Commandments. How can a loving God be angry? He can be angry because His people continually disobey Him. The Israelites did it over and over again, despite His blessings on them It is part of His love. Is God's sentence to destroy Israel and raise up a new nation through Moses justified? God is the ultimate judge. His idea of justice is far beyond our understanding. Any of His actions are the right ones, so all are justified.
gladwyn charles
Charleswyn3 @gmail.com 1a. I am the Lord thy God which brought out of the land of Egypt out of the house of bondage. They were disobedient to God's commandments. Exodus 20:1-5 1b. The Loving God did set boundaries parameters and consequences about and around His Love...showing the character attributes if His Love was violated or abused. 1c. Was God justified in creating man? And choosing Israel out of all nations to make a chosen people? Was God justified in being their liberator from bondage...their Povidence in their times of Need? God's Will reigns sovereign. His character in Justness must always be in balance. In raising up a new Nation through Moses God would still be keeping His promise t Abraham lsaac Jacob and Israel

Not only did they create a golden calf they worshipped and praised and made it their God. They also went as far as saying that the golden calf is what brought them out of Egypt! I would say yes, but God is a God of His word and that is exactly what Moses brought up to God in regards to the children of Israel.
ecosystems
Israel had gone ahead and instituted a lifeless idol to worship (sin) in the absence of Moses, as they had seen other nations do. In otherwords they had rejected YHWH as their God and King. This was reason enough for the God of the universe to be angry at Israel for wanting to worship an idol made by the hands of a man(He was angry at the sin) instead of worshiping the true and Living God who additionally wanted to lavish His care and love on a nation He regarded as His jewel on earth. Remember it was God Himself who said "let us make man in our own image and likeness". This indicates that God bad within Him already this emotion. This also means that being God His anger was righteous. The way He wanted man to use the anger emotion, in a righteous way. This explains why He was also angry with the people. Knowing better they still espoused sin. They should have rejected sin. So He was justified, in His angry response as well as His solution to the problem of an unbelieving people. He had done it in Noah's day. Was it justified then? Weren't they just as unbelieving and sinful?

They didn’t wait on the Lord and their faith and trust dissolved and the short time they did wait for Moses to return grew into impatience. (It is through faith and patience the promises are manifested) This led to a spiralling down of their behaviour into seeking a false god/idol to worship. It shows me that deep down the heart of man corrupt as it, (until born again of the Holy Spirit) still longs for and seeks God to worship, adore, cherish and celebrate. If only they had waited and trusted…. 2. Well look how angry us humans get at others who do wrong by us! God is pure Righteousness, so of course He’s going to get mad at us who delve into sinful behaviours. Praise God we have Jesus who bore all our past, present, future sins on the cross and God’s wrath has been poured out on Messiah once and for all, for us who are born again are no longer under His righteous anger or wrath. We are under grace, favour, righteousness and blessed! Hallelujah 3. Yes of course Abba dearest is justified and this is a lovely picture of His hearts desire for us all as eventually He did do that with us who are born again, praise the Lord… “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:
Lisa Wolf
Read Exodus 32:1-14. What had the people done that was so bad? How can a loving God be angry? Is God's sentence to destroy Israel and raise up a new nation through Moses justified? God is Holy. God is Just. God is opposed to sin. Therefore, He was angry at this people who created a god other than Himself. He alone brought the people out of Egypt, but they did not see or understand that it was He - the One True God - that provided their miracle. His sentence to destroy Israel and raise up a new nation through Moses was certainly justified.

They quickly made an idol to worship and further more declare that the calf idol was what brought them out of Egypt. Moreover, did sacrifices to the idols. the people caused every one to stumble unto this lie. God is just He is for truth and justice. Even when a child does wrong a parent will be angry. But God is forgiving and must do what is right. Yes it is justified but God also allowed Moses to speak and it was in truth that Moses spoke. I believe God was testing Moses. Moses when he came down from the mountain was very angry as well and threw the tablets with the law saying these people were not worthy of them. On 9/5/2005 at 8:17 PM, Pastor Ralph said: Q1.
