The basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin are confession of the sin , Bringing an animal that has no defect ,Lay his hands on its head , Slay the animal by cutting its throat , a priest who leads the offering.

Only confession(with a broken and contrite heart ) is still necessary, any other is not. Because the blood of the Lamb of God has been shed once for all for the atonement of whoever believes.

We still need to come before our heavenly Father and confess our sins. Jesus has become the 'substitute spotless Lamb' for us. It's His blood that was shed so we could be forgiven. We don't bring a Lamb or a pigeon or anything like that, but the Father in Heaven has provided the lamb for us, Jesus His Son. Who fully man and divine is the ONLY sacrifice that would be sufficient for me. Blood still needs to flow so we can be reconciled to God, but it's the blood of His Son, the Saviour of the world.

Confession of sin is necessary followed by repentance for the forgiveness of sins. Confession alone is not enough. All the remaining elements are not necessary because Jesus Christ become a sin for us and He died on the cross for our sins. His death on the cross become our sin offering so that animal sacrifice is no longer necessary. He died for our sins once for all.

Today, only #1 is necessary for forgiveness. The rest were only a foreshadowing of what Christ would be and do for us on the cross... can't improve on HIS perfection, and the sacrifice was already made >2000 yrs ago for my sin today and tomorrow!!! WOW!!!!!

The book of Hebrews is clear on the matter: the animal sacrifice required by God was fulfilled in the Lord Jesus, and He put a permanent end to them when the temple was destroyed. The destruction began when Jesus died...the veil was torn in two, from top to bottom, and the Holiest Place was made open. That was the beginning of the end for ritual sacrifice in the temple. In 70 AD, it came to a permanent end. No more ritual slaughter. All of the OT sacrificial law was a picture of the coming Messiah. All of it points to Him, who laid Himself down for our sakes. Amen. There is a close identification between the sinner and the sacrifice. The imparting of sin by the laying on of hands suggests that the animal becomes a substitute for the sinner.

Today we confess to the Lord our sins. Jesus has already been slain and his blood atones our sin and future sin. We just need to ask for forgiveness and repent. 1. Confession: Still VERY necessary. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins..."

2. Bringing a costly animal: not necessary for forgiveness, but necessary for true life. God calls us to bring OUR lives as a living sacrifice to Him (costly animal). Jesus died for us, but we are to give up the desires of our flesh, take up His cross and follow him.

3. Laying hands on sacrifice: not literally necessary. However, when we confess our sins to Jesus, we should leave our sins on Him and not take them back with us. When we leave our sins on Him, we are being freed from the burden of those sins, just as the Isrealites were freed from the burden of the sin they put onto the sacrifical lambs. The sacrifical lambs took away the sin. If we take our sins back with us after "confessing," have we truly confessed and relied on HIS forgiveness?

4. Burning the fat at the alter: not literally necessary. However, Jesus calls us to "repent." To repent is to "change one's mind, or make a change for the better." So He calls us to not only confess, but to change. It appears to me that the burning of the fat might symbolize the removal of the excess in our lives that cause us to stumble and sin. Only the lean meat is left...

5. Meat is eaten: communion is commanded. Jesus commanded us to take of his body and his blood. We do this in communion. He said to do this in "remembrance" of Him. Did the requirement that the meat of the sacrificed animal be eaten actually provide the forgiveness? Maybe it was commanded so that they would not take for granted the spilled blood of the animal for the sin. They had to "remember" the sacrifice when they sat down to eat, just as we are to remember Jesus' sacrifice when we partake in communion. Also, we are to told by Paul in 1 Cor. not to partake in communion unless we have "examined" ourselves and are not partaking in an "unworthy" manner. I think most of us believe that this means we are to ask forgiveness of our sins prior to communion.

The Isrealites had to confess and sacrifice then eat of the sacrifice, and we are called to do the same.

The sacrifice had to have the sins transferred to the innocent victim such as confession of sins, then the blood, the seat of life had to be drained from the body. Our Lord became our sacrifice.

We must still confess our faults to God and ask for the Blood of Christ Jesus to cover our sins in order to be reconciled to God. We do not need anymore sacrifices because Jesus was once and for all sacrifice for sin.

Slaughtering of animals for sacrifices are no longer practiced today as Jesus came

Today we need to recognize our sin and confess our sin trusting in the blood of Jesus as the atoning sacrifice once and for all.

We no longer need to repeatedly sacrifice anything for each sin, nor do we need a mediator. We approach the throne of God ourselves.
