TO REMEMBER WHat our Lord had done for all of us. To redeem us and to remind future generations. What previous generations went through and what God did for them. The Jews no doubt would lose insight of our Lord and what he can and will do as he promised to return.

I understand that the Passover was supposed to be celebrated each year so that the Jewish people would remember the circumstances of their Exodus from Egypt and what God did for them, both in freeing them from Pharaoh and then His continued support and protection during their subsequent trek through the wilderness. In those days it was more common for actions to be repeated than for events to be recorded in writing, while of course records were made they were not widely available, unlike in modern times.

In all likelihood, if the Jews stopped commemorating the Passover the Exodus and events surrounding it would become obscured and relegated to the realms of legend.

The purpose of the Passover meal for future generations was two fold:

1. to look back and see what the Lord had done for the children of Israel by setting them free from their slave masters in Egypt and also that their lives were spared from the death angel because they had the blood of the lamb on their doorposts.

2. to look forward to the time of the Messiah whom would be their Lamb of God who would take away their slavery to sin forever.

The Passover meal was to be repeated so that they would never forget their deliverance and also to set them apart from the Idolatrous nations around them.

If the Jews had stopped remembering the Exodus, then they would have perhaps stopped remembering their God and gone into idoltry with the nations around them and also they would not have stuck together as a separate people waiting for the Messiah.

The Passover meal was the shadow and the Lord's supper is the substance in salvation's history.

The Israelites were set apart by thier observance of Passover as the church (the called out ones) are separated from the worldly ones by their observance of the Lord's supper.

The Passover meal was actually a way of teaching the new generations the vital history of their people in a way that should not be forgotten, so that the new generation should be initiated into the mysteries that, at that time, were held by their people. David, in his psalms, reflected on what God had done for Israel in slavery. I think that, hearing these stories as a child, he grew his faith on them, writing songs about it, nurturing his spirit in God's faithfulness to His people, and that made him the great leader that he became. I believe that God wanted the history of His dealing withhis beloved Israelites sewn into their bones, that they might not forget their God, but continue with Him and become the light of the world.

The other reason for the repetition of the passover was that it was prophetic. Jesus was yet to come and be the Passover Lamb, and this had to be recognised when it happened. The Passover was a fore-runner of the death and resurrection which was to surplant it as the great memorial feast. Maybe that is why Jesus had so much looked forward to celebrating this particular passover with HIs disciples, because He knew what was about to be instituted! He was celebrating the resurrection even before His death in a sense! In the recent resurrection of Lazarus after four days He had assurance of his own resurrection after three (He was also a man and learning moment by moment from His Father just as we do). The institution of the Holy Communion proclaimed the new covenant that God had with His people through the body and blood of Jesus. It didn't wipe out the old covenant. Jesus came to fulfil the law (be the passover) to great abundance and overflowing. blessing of the new. It's like the old covenant was the vase, and the new covenant is the flowers!

The purpose of the Passover meal for the future generations was to establish in their

children ( the Jewish families ) the memory of the time God gave Moses as a leader and Moses inter

ceded with Pharo and with God's intervention was able to lead the People out of the exile and slavery

in egypt. It was to be repeated so they never forget and they would pass on the memory and the

story to their future children and grand children. forever. If the Jews had stopped remembering the

exodus then they would stop thanking God for their release and forget God perhaps. And in time the

Exodus and God's intervention would be forgotten and perhaps they may have fallen further out of

the grace of God than they did fall. And become hethen people and worship false Gods and not the

one true God.

It was another way that the people could show love and respect for God by teaching each consecutive generation of God's Love and Mercy when He became their Redeemer and saved them from slavery under Pharaoh. Each generation was commanded to teach their children and to remember that they and their ancestors had been slaves.

It was repeated as a way of remembrance and to show God that He was still their Provider, Shelter, Protector, Lord and God.

The things to be remembered was that God had redeemed them from slavery and death under Pharaoh. That they were God's chosen people and that He was in control. That He had commanded they follow His teachings to Moses and do thing that He had done when God sent him to lead their ancestors to the promise land.

If the people fail to keep God's commands and stop remembering the Exodus then it would meant they are rejecting God as Lord and Redeemer and they would be worse off than when they were slaves in Egypt. They would become slaves to their own sins never realizing that a Messiah was given to save them and bring them to the real Promised Land to be with their God forever.

According to Yahweh's own words, the Passover feast was a memorial celebration to the LORD in remembrance of the day He delivered the nation of Israel from bondage in Egypt. It was important for these chosen people never to forget their God and what He had done for them. This was to forever be a feast that would cause them to gratefully remember, to faithfully teach the children of their history and heritage, and to bow their hearts as individuals and as a nation in worship of Yahweh.

If the Jews had stopped remembering the Exodus from slavery amd deliverance to freedom, they would have stopped remembering the power, authority, and call of God, the great I AM. The story would not be passed from generation to generation "as a statute forever", as Yahweh commanded. When you don't remember your history, you forfeit much of your future.

And I think maybe the LORD also had an even higher purpose for the Passover celebration. There was one most important Jewish child to be born thousands of years later who would need to learn this prophetic story of remembrance and experience the tangible lessons of its elements. It perfectly pictured and represented the sacrifice of the final Lamb, the Messiah, who would forever deliver all humanity from bondage and slavery to sin. I think the Holy Spirit revealed much to Jesus about His identity, purpose, and destiny through this very feast as it was observed year by year during His earthly life. And it remains a powerful confirmation of how God fulfilled His promise of a Redeemer that had been given in the garden of Eden. How great is our God!

The purpose was as Jesus said, "In rememberance of Me". He did not want us to forget that his sacrifice of his life was for US. That it was a sacrifice and God had intervened to put and end to the law with a supreme sacrifice of love, His only Son. The dispensation of the Law was over, a new dispensation of Love was now instituted.

The celebration of Passover is to be mindful of the events that lead to Israel's freedom from bondage. It must be repeated so that Yahweh's people never forget the horror of slavery and the joy of freedom. One should be especially keen to remember that bondage is death and that the shed blood of the lamb saved from death. Forgetting the Exodus that El Shaddai had lead them through would result in the return of His people to bondage, as would be the case today if we were to forget our "Exodus" from the bondage of sin, the Passover that we celebrate when we take communion and it's elements.

The celebration of the Passover meal was so that the Hebrews would remember how God had saved their firstborn from the Angel of Death and how He had delivered them from Egypt during the Exodus. The purpose of the Passover for future generations is to remind those who had not witnessed the Exodus of the great things God had done for the people of Israel. By the way the table is set, the Jews are reminded of the how the quickly left Egypt, of the buildings they had built while in Egypt, of the bitterness of slavery, of their tears as slaves, of the Spring time, of the sacrifice in thankgiving to the LORD, of freedom, deliverance, redemption, release and of the Messiah to come. If the Jews had stopped remembering the Exodus, they would have stopped remembering the great things the LORD had done for them.

Purpose of Passover meal for futre generation:

To enable the future generation also to know how God delivered His Children, the Israelites from the Egyptians by His Mighty power when the messeger of death stroke the Egyptian fisrt born but miraculously passed over the Israelites. It was a memorial.

Why it was reapeated:

To keep the story of deliverance afresh in the minds of the people so that they could continue to appreciate God and stay with Him. Reating it also enabled the story to continue through generations.

What would have happened if the Israelites had forgotten the story:

The future generations would have missed the opportunity to know the God of miracles who delivered His Children and took the promissed land.

Generally speaking, the purpose of the passover meal for future generations was to keep a consistant reminder before mankind of how God had delivered his children from bondage and death. By repeating it there would always be a fresh reminder of what had taken place as to how God had kept them while in bondage, how he had spared them from the death angel, and provide for their journey. Should they stop this remembrance they could very easily have their hearts turned from God and again face bondage, especially spiritually.

The original Passover Meal was a picture of Christ's Death. The lamb was slain, the blood was put on the door post, and the lamb was eaten. It was a pre Lord's Supper. It was to be repeated so that every Jew would remember thier deliverance from Egypt. What was to be remembered was that God, through the death of a lamb, had passed over thier houses that had blood on the door posts. In alot of ways I think the Passover Meal had just become a ritual to most jews. When the real lamb of God came they did not know Him!

The purpose of the Seder meal was to teach every generation the history of what God had done for His chosen people. To retell of how He freed them from bondage and slavery. To remind them of His faithfulness to them. To remind them of His care for them even when they were unfaithful and disobedient and bitterly complaining against Him! It was also tied in prophetically with the coming of the Lamb.

Passover was repeatedly practiced because the people needed to remember. They needed to remember all God had done for them and all He promised for them in their future. Every new generation needed to hear and to pass on to the next generation how mighty God was and is. They weren't any different than we are today. We forget if we aren't reminded of His love and faithfulness to us even when we remain disobedient and complaing even today! We also need to pass on to each generation the truth of our mighty God and the redeeming work of Jesus. If the Jews had stopped remembering the Exodus they would have stopped remembering who to be dependant on. They would have forgotten the whole history of their race and who their God was and how powerful He is. They would have forgotten who their deliverer was. They would have forgotten that Messiah was coming!

Today we remember the New Covenant and our redemption through Jesus. We remember God's faithfulness to us still in our bitter times and times of tears and all that Jesus did to free us from bondage to sin and that Jesus will return!

It was to celebrate God sparing the Iraelites in Egypt by passing over them which was part of God's intervention in advancing the cause of His chosen people. By repeating the Passover meal each year the Jews were reminded of God's part in the destiny and that they owed all to God. It was also a way of teaching the young members of a Jewish family of God's place in their lives and in their history. If they stopped remembering God's hand in the Exodus they would start to forget and turn away from God. Like the Lord's Supper it is a renewal.
