They partook in the drinking (and a meal) to bind themselves to the new covenant just as the 70 elders partook of drinking and a meal with God under the old covenant. We are also binding ourselves to the new covenant when we drink the cup.

Q3. What is the significance of the 12 Apostles drinking the Cup of the Covenant? To whom would they correspond under the ratification of the Old Covenant? (Hint: Exodus 24:11.) What is the significance of us drinking the Cup of the Covenant?

The significance of the 12 apostles drinking the Cup of the Covenant. Is that in the OT and thru out

scripture people ratified covenants by drinking and eating with eachother a solom meal. This showed

that thru drinking and eat ing they were in accord with the covenant .

The 12 apostles would correspond with the 70 Elders that went up with Moses on the mountain and

ate and drank with God in ratifing the second set of commandmenta that He had given them of the

Law.

The significance of us drinking the Cup of the covenant is in obedience to Christ at the last supper

meal. He said to Eat this bread and drink this cup in rememberance of Him as He was instituting

the new covenant with God and Man. And We are doing it in rememberance of What he did for us

Dying on the cross for our sins. It is obedience and memory of the New Covenant.

The 12 Apostles drank the Cup of the Convenant to confirm the New Covenant.

The elder that went with Moses.

Each time we drink the cup of the Covenant we are sharing a meal with Christ, the Son of God. We renew our commitment we have in the New Covenant.

The Significance of the 12 Apostles drinking the cup of the covenant was to bind them to the New Covenant. Just as the 70 elders ate in God's presence as representatives of the people of God to confirm the old covenant [Exodus 24:11], so now the 12 apostles eat in Jesus's presence as the confirmation of the beginning of the New Covenant. Each of the apostles are commanded to drink of the cup, which binds them to the covenant. Jesus Christ came to fulfill the law of moses and create a new covenant between God and His people. ''Do not think I have come to abolish the law or the prophets, I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. '' [Matt 5: 17]

The old covenant was written in stone, but the new covenant is written on our hearts; made possible only by faith in Christ, who shed his own blood to atone for the sins of the world. Luke 22:20 says, ''After supper, Jesus took another cup of wine and said, ''This wine is the token of God's New Covenant to save you an agreement sealed with the blood I will pour out for you. ''

The 12 apostles would correspond with the twelve tribes of Israel and the significance of us drinking the cup of the covenant is that we are given the opportunity to receive salvation as a free gift, For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast. [Ephesians 2: 8-9] We can now share in the inheritance of Christ and enjoy a permanent, unbroken relationship with God.

The Apostles drinking the Cup of the Covenant were agreeing to the New Covenant. They drank this cup with Jesus, just as the 70 Elders ate the covenant meal with God. I believe we are reinacting the Covenant Meal with Jesus everytime we partake of the LORD's Supper. We are revalidating the promises made.

The divisions in Corinth are the same divisions in many of the churches in my community. I am fortunate in that I am the Pastor of a new church plant and I don't have the divisions or problems right now discussed in this lesson. However, I have been a member of churches with these problems i.e., gossip, slander, prejudice, bigotry, split leadership, etc.

I believe that bickering congregations cannot participate in the Lord's Supper without sin.

The significance was to bind them to the covenant, to him. They corresponded with the 70 elders. The significance for us is the same as the disciples, to bind us to Christ, which was our covenant.

In drinking the Cup, they agree with the convenant.

The same way as the elders of Israel agreed with the old convenant (Ex. 24:11).

For us this is accepting Jesus' sacrifice; we agree with the convenant.

The significance of the twelve disciples drinking the Cup of the Covenant was to seal the new covenant Jesus was making on behalf of humanity.  Under the ratification of the Old Covenant, they were in correspondence with God (Jesus was God in the flesh and is God).  The significance for us today is renew our commitment to the New Covenant, which provided complete atonement of our sins past, present, and future.

The 12 apostles drinking of the Cup of the Covenant is the beginning of the new people of God.  They are starting fresh with the New Covenant and the blood of Jesus Christ.  The 12 drinking of the Cup is comparable to the 70 elders and the meal with God on the mountain.  The significance of us drinking the cup at Holy Communion is we are renewing our covenant with God.  We are promising to live in love and harmony with each other, to remove all hatred from our hearts and follow the path Jesus has shown us.

The Apostles were a representation of all the people who were going to be coming to Christ in the future. They were the ones that had to teach converts about the New Covenant. These men were the same as the elders in the Old Testament. Each time we partake in the cup of the covenant, we are reaffirming our covenant with God and Jesus. We are strengthening our faith and making the Holy Spirit stronger in our lives.
