The ''cup of blessing'' teaches us not to be self-focused, but to give praise and glory to God, thus blessing him for all his goodness towards us; especially in forgiveness of our sins. We glorify God, we remember His death, we proclaim His holy name and give thanksgiving towards Him.

Q1. (1 Corinthians 10:16). What does the "cup of blessing" teach us about our focus at the Lord's Supper? Who is to be blessed when the "cup of blessing" is lifted heavenward?

The "cup of blessing" is a service of worship and blessing towards God and not to us. It is a feast in remembrance of his grace and mercy towards us.

It is God that is the central focus of the feast and therefore He is the one to be blessed when the "cup of blessing" is lifted up.

Q1. (1 Corinthians 10:16). What does the "cup of blessing" teach us about our focus at the Lord's Supper? Who is to be blessed when the "cup of blessing" is lifted heavenward?

We are to remember the purpose of the cup of blessing. It represents Christ sacrifical suffering and death for our sins. It is his mercy poured out for us. Christ is to be blessed when the cup is lifted toward heaven. He is to be blessed because of the salvation that he gave us.

Q1. (1 Corinthians 10:16). What does the "cup of blessing" teach us about our focus at the Lord's Supper? Who is to be blessed when the "cup of blessing" is lifted heavenward?

1 Corinthians 10:16 - Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?

What does the "cup of blessing" teach us about our focus at the Lord's Supper? The focus of the Lord's Supper is on our heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus, and not us. As Pastor Ralph wrote in his commentary, 'However, too often we partake of the Lord's Supper for our own blessing rather than as a service of worship and blessing towards God. We must take care not to be self-focused, but focused on Christ as we partake of the Lord's Supper. It is a feast of remembrance, of proclamation, of blessing God, and of thanksgiving towards him. '

Who is to be blessed when the "cup of blessing" is lifted heavenward? Our Heavenly Father who has provided us with all blessings and especially by sending us His Son in order for Him to die for our sins.

We need to be focused on what Christ Jesus did for us, we need to be reverantly seeking Him and when we partake of the cup we need to be mindful not only of ourself but the great price that he paid for us. When we take of the cup of blessing we are remembering Him and His great love for us.

The "cup of blessing" teaches us to focus on our Lord and Savior.  We should focus on what He has done for us and the world.  When the cup is lifted heavenward the blessing and thanksgiving is toward God for all His blessings to us, especially forgiving us of our sins in the Name of Jesus Christ.

The focus on the "cup of blessing" is to be a blessing to the Lord. It is also to be a thanksgiving to God. For all of the great things that He does for us on a daily basis. We have been taught to be very self-centered during our worship. We have been taught that all of the blessings are for us. We have the idea that worship is there to amuse us or entertain us. We really need to put it back into proper perspectives that God should be the key element that we are there to worship.
