Foofee's Nana
How do confession and repentance fit with self-examination? What is the result of self-examination without confession and repentance? How do confession and repentance serve to bring spiritual health and character change? Confession and repentance walk hand in hand with self-examination in that we must be truthful with ourselves and confess the sin to God...but we also need to ask ourself if we can turn away from that sin and do it no more. In this way we deal with our innner man. If we look at ourself and choose not to confess or repent we cut ourself off from the full benefits of being a child of the King....He still loves us but we need to get ourself right. To confess and repent gives us the open access to our the Father and we need to humble ourself before Him. He paid such a price.....and to let our pride stand in the way of confession and repentance is wrong.
Kerneydr
Q4. How do confession and repentance fit with self-examination? In the self-examination one sees the sin hidden in the heart, confession and repentance is the admitting of it and sense of sorrow over it. What is the result of self-examination without confession and repentance? That is where one could get into continual guilt and neurotic behavior, when there is continual self-examination but that is as far as it goes --no confession or repentance. How do confession and repentance serve to bring spiritual health and character change? Confession is admitting the sin and recognizing the harm it does and repentance is making changes so as to not repeat the offense. These two practices in a way cleanse the soul and change it so that it is clean of sin --- this is of course what God does upon our confession and repentance to HIM. tgandy
Confession and repentance are absolutely necessary to grow in the Christian life. You can confess to another person or God and ask for forgiveness. If we do not confess and repent we do not grow, and are subject to God's discipline. When we confess and ask for forgiveness it is a wiping the slate clean, a breath of fresh air, the load is gone from your shoulders. This frees us to grow in God's love. JoanG
Once we have recognized our sins, we need to confess and repent for those sins. These help us to receive the forgiveness and grace from God. It allows us to recognize where our own weaknesses are and help us to grow in our character and also spirituality. We can find our triggers and we can avoid sins in the future. Ultimately, we can grow from our mistakes. If we do not confess and repent, we will possibly continue to do the same sins again. There will be nothing to make us want to stop.
