lighthouse2014
Q1. (Ephesians 3:2-5) Why is God's revelation to "his holy apostles and prophets" our authority for faith and practice? What is the danger of minimizing or straying from that revelation? What is the danger of superceding that revelation? What is the danger of denying that God reveals himself to us and to his church today? God's revelations to the Apostles and prophets are His very own breathed words. It is in our authority and responsibility to maintain Gods revelations to all men and edify the church and continue it's growth and purpose. By straying away from these revelations we begin to insert man's ideas and practices. This being totally opposite of God's word. As in the answer above, if we supersede His revelations, then we are once again putting man's ideas and practices in place of God's. The dangers of not believing that god reveals Himself to us through His word would mean we still in our sins and there is no future hope for us and Christ death is a fable. JoanG
I feel that when we are ready, God will let parts of his ideas or thought known to us. God will never reveal everything to us at the same time. We as humans are not able to comprehend all of it at once. I feel that we would lose out on a great revelation if we do not follow what God has related to us. I believe that we would lose out on some grace that God was sending our way. We should not think that we are better than God or that we know more than he does. If this occurs we will lose so much. We need to be open to God. We need help and guidance and we need to believe that God is still here for us or we have no reason to call ourselves Christians. Our faith and our prayers will be useless. That we may learn and know how to live, he teaches us how what we need to know. Losing out on what God is telling us. Deception Losing ourselves in this world, to be blinded. hanks
Q26. (Ephesians 3:2-5) Why is God's revelation to "His holy apostles and prophets" our authority for faith and practice? What is the danger of minimizing or straying from that revelation? What is the danger of superseding that revelation? What is the danger of denying that God reveals Himself to us and to His church today? The apostles and prophets wrote what was directly revealed to them by the Holy Spirit. They did not write their opinions by their own initiative. The OT is revealed to us through the prophets, and the NT through the apostles. The result is an inspired message by which the will of God is made known to us. It is God’s Words speaking to us, and is our absolute authority in life. It is not for us to add or subtract from what God has revealed to us; only for us to obey. We land up in all sorts of trouble, strange teachings, and false doctrines once we subtract words or add our own opinions to His Word, or even try to manipulate it to fall in with our understanding and opinion. The same happens when we stray from His Word. We are actually warned not to tamper with His Word, not to add or subtract from it (Rev 22:18-19). What is the danger of minimizing or straying from that revelation? What is the danger of superseding that revelation? God’s revelation to “his holy apostles and prophets” are our authority because they are genuine word of God worthy of acceptance and compliance in faith. Minimizing or straying from such revelation can lead us to miss out from the intended purpose for such revelation. The danger of denying that God reveals himself to us and to his church today is the resultant consequences of getting into trouble or danger for non- compliance of such messages. Krissi
Why is God's revelation to "his holy apostles and prophets" our authority for faith and practice? What is the danger of minimizing or straying from that revelation? What is the danger of superseding that revelation? What is the danger of denying that God reveals himself to us and to his church today? The ideas of revelation and truth are connected if not identical. To question revelation is to question God's truth(fulness): It's not only questioning whether we are capable of understanding GOd's revelation, but if God's revelation in itself is stable, constant, unchanging and ... true. In my opinion, this attitude or approach to revelation separates "liberal" from "conservative" Christians. Liberals stand over-above scriptures, denying the revelation by believing their own critique is more valuable ... more true. Conservatives -- those who are thoughtful, at least -- struggle to submit their own minds, thus conforming the way they think, believe and act to the revelation in scripture. Liberals supersede, even supplant, revelation with their own ideas and understandings; conservatives confirm or submit their own understandings to revealed truths. Denying God's present revelation is denying God's existence, not just his existence for me, you or the church, but his existence qua existence. God's Revelation: They are our authority for faith and practice: As they were given to the apostles and prophets by the Spirit of God. When we stray from that revelation we hearts are open to the work of the devil. Proverbs 4:20-23 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Danger of superceeding: There is no other truth except what God has given to us in His Word. Re: Denying God's revealed truth: If you have the Spirit of God living inside you can't deny the truth.
Jonathan Edwards
It is truly urgent to heed to the Gospel message now; it was kept secret for centuries. Abraham, Davis, and the Prophets did not know that the middle wall of partitionwas to be wholly removed. Christ the head of the church had set apart for himself fit instruments to receive such an important Revelation. We must pay heed with due diligence to the Word of God in matters of faith and practice; it is not optional nor it is a matter of maybe yes or maybe no. Serious doctrinal errors and confusion results due to lack of serious Bible study. Prime example is Jonestown in Guyana. Disregard for the Holy Bible is absolutely disastrous. Superseding the Holy Bible also is dangerous as well. Mormon church has added "new revelations" which have wrought spurious doctrines. Mainline denominations have gotten themselves in trouble due to lack of upholding the Holy Bible as the inerrant, infallible Word of God. We cannot be Deists. This goes against our Orthodox Christain faith. God truly has revealed his truth to us in this dispensation of grace. The manifold wisdom of God affects all classes of mankind---the kerygma beckons all men to come to the Cross of Christ.
Old Jerry
God’s revelation to “his holy apostles and prophets” is our authority for faith and practice because they are from God. God is teaching us how to be good citizens while we are on earth. If we minimize or stray from that revelation then we are going against God will and we will probably end up in hell. To supersede that revelation is the same as minimizing or straying from it. If we deny that God revealed himself to us and to his church then I don’t think that we are Christians.
