Paul was humble because God's grace was on him, he was aware of who he was before he met Jesus, the least of the apostles; but God's power, His riches were felt in the heart of Paul, and it was because of this he could go forth and be that light to the Gentiles. It is Christ's example that reminds me, I am a servant of the Almighty God, my life must be that light to the world, so they can see God's glory shine through me, not because of anything I have done, but because of the power of Christ working in me. In his words, he is the "less than the least" of the apostles. Like Paul, we are also prosecutors of Christ. He wanted people to know who he was and from where he came...and his change came about exclusively through the power of Christ. As a Christian one might feel somewhat better than the unbeliever, more privileged and a little smug. Christ said we are all equal as believers and all are invited to come to Him. Paul, knowing who he was, what he has done to the disciples of Christ and how God showed him mercy by forgiving him of all the evil he has done and choosing him to be the carrier of the mystery of God (preaching the gospel to the gentiles), was very careful not to become proud or boast about his accomplishments and fame. Instead, he humbled himself just as the one who called him did (Philippians 2:5-8). Paul said of himself, "Iam the least of all the apostles". Paul knew most of the apostles were "mere" fishermen and he was a scholar yet he was not proud. What an example Paul is to us. We must learn to put on the garment of humility and see ourselves as servants of the Lord, called to serve humanity with the gospel. Let us learn to esteem others more than ourselves. WE MUST REMEMBER THAT THE BIBLES SAYS IF WE HUMBLE OURSELVES GOD WILL LIFT US UP. AGAIN GOD RESIST THE PROUD BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE. How can his example help us remain as humble servants? his call and apostleship were both a gift from god. he did nothing to receive them,but he knew woe is me if i preach not the gospel. see, he knew who he was, the least of all the apostles, one born abnormally in time, one unworthy to be called an apostle for persecuting the church. he also knew that trying to become a pharisee of pharisees lead him to perfecting his own flesh,but he counted it as rubbish later on. so the closer we get to a holy god, we find ourselves lacking beyond measure, and only one can provide and sustain us in and through all things. His persecution to Christians and all that God was about was overwhelmingly cruel. So because of who he was it created a more humble servant to think that God would chose such a wretch like him to bring His word was probably so awesome that a mere human cannot touch that kind of Love. Paul was like a brand snatched out of the fire, since he persecuted the Saints before his conversion. He recognized that his calling as an Apostle was a gift of God's free grace and mercy...God's choice, not anything he did to earn it or to be arrogant about. How can his example help us remain as humble servants? Our calling and having been chosen is just as Paul was...we didn't earn it, but were sovereignly chosen. This is what we see in Paul, who followed Christ in humility, rejection and suffering. We will do well to follow his example. Paul was not proud and arrogant being rather wise and understanding. Those that are truly wise, like the Apostle Paul, will have the hallmark of genuine humility. We should note that the divine character is made up of holiness, love, humility, meekness, kindness and forgiveness. This we can only aim to reflect from our association with the Lord Jesus. Paul never forgot who he had been describeing himself as "less than the least". Yet, he recognized the great power he had as God's servant because a servant only has the power of the one whom he serves. Paul recognized his ministry was a gift; not something he deserved or earned as a persecuter of Christians. How can his example help us remain as humble servants? We are no different than Paul and should recognize the power of the one we serve, our God given gifts, and our role as a servant to fulfill our purpose. Paul was very humble about his call becasue he knew what he was and did in his past and so did all the others. However when you accept Jeuses and let him use you, you know that with God all things are possible and Paul knew that nobody but God change his life. How can his example help us remain as humble servants. His example can help us in the way of remembering that we didn't always follow Christ. We were not always saved and some were saved and had back slid but don't point out others fault to the degree as if you were always humble and so good. We have to deny ourselves in order for God to use us. In doing that you remember where God brought you from and not go back but reflex so that you can see how far you have come in Christ Jesus.
