Q2.

What comparisons do you see between Jesus and the role of the Old Testament type of the Kinsman-Redeemer?

I see Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour, as our beloved Kinsman-Redeemer who willingly gave His life to set us free from bondage. He is the ultimate Kinsman-Redeemer who rescues us from sin, death, and the eternal separation from God.

I think of Boaz and Ruth as the only story where the role of Kinsman-Redeemer is played out. Where we get to see first hand the importance of having a kinsman step in and redeem a relative in need or in bondage. Boaz is motivated by his love for Ruth, but he also extends mercy and grace to Ruth's mother-in-law Naomi. By marrying Ruth, he not only redeems her, but Naomi also. He acted not out of self interest, but he did what was best for Ruth and Naomi. Ruth was a non-Jewish, foreigner, even if she now worships the God of Naomi. Marrying her seemingly would be a negative to Boaz's future in the town he lived in. People could question his character.

Jesus as our Kinsman- Redeemer acted out of love, grace and mercy as He paid the price for our sins with His blood. He also extends that redemption to everyone, regardless of nationality or past religious affiliation. His actions were not self motivated; He endured shame and ridicule for his friendship with sinners and those of lowly station. He was concerned with doing what was right, rather than the appearance or perception others had of Him.

We could compare Jesus and the role of the Old Testament Kinsman-Redeemer in that he was ransomed for us.  He rescued us from death and gave us eternal life. Jesus also delivered us from our sins.

Jesus paid for our debts to God with His own life. He saved us from the torment of sin and gave us a new life of grace. We would not have been able to pay the price for our sin on our own. He gave us the name as the adopted sons and daughters of God.

Q2. What comparisons do you see between Jesus and the role of the Old Testament type of the Kinsman-Redeemer?

God had always responded or avenged his people Israel in time of their trouble of being conquered by other nations or avenging them of all atrocities against them. God considered the Israelis his chosen people, thus a type of kinsmen redeemer, he has been sacrificed for the redemption of their sins and brought them back to God the Father, provided they believe and call upon them.

Jesus is the ultimate Kinsmen-Redeemer. Because of man's nature being sinful, we that believe on Him, will be bought back from the life of slavery to sin. He redeems us not according to what we can do, but because He is the great Redeemer.

Don't you mean that we that believe in Him will be ought back from the life of slavery to freedom?

The Old Testament type: The Hebrew verb gā’al means "to redeem, avenge, revenge, ransom, and do the part of a kinsman." The very strong sense of family gave kinsmen a responsibility to look out for their close relatives in areas such as:

Marrying a brother's widow if no children have yet been born, in order to raise up children in the brother's name (a main issue in the case of Ruth and Tamar),
Purchasing family lands that had to be sold because of poverty, in order to keep the land in the family,
Buying the freedom of relatives who had become slaves because of debts they couldn't pay, and
Avenging a kinsman who was murdered.
Rescuing a kinsman who was kidnapped.

Jesus'comparison role as the type of a Kinsman-Redeemer: To atone by offering as a substitute to die in our place on the cross that we may turn to Him and follow Him to become outstanding Christians.

Q2. What comparisons do you see between Jesus and the role of the Old Testament type of the Kinsman-Redeemer?

the responsibility of a kinsman redeemer

Marrying a brother's widow if there were no children to produce an heir for the brother.

purchase family land to keep in family

buying the freedom of a relatives made slaves because of debt

Avenging a kinsman who was murdered

Rescuing a kinsman who was kidnapped

Jesus is our kinsman redeemer.  He paid the price Himself to pay for our debt of sin which we could not pay ourselves to redeem us from our slavery to sin and brought us into His kingdom of light, we then become the bride of Christ who promises to avenge troubles done to us.  One day this earth will be totally back in His control and out of the control of the evil one and we will become inheritors with Christ.

God Bless!

Jen

In the OT, there was a very strong sense of family, and being part of a particular family meant that family members would look out for one another, to rescue, redeem or avenge one another when they were in trouble.

Since we were in danger of the power of Satan and spending an eternity is separation from our Father, Jesus came to rescue us from our danger.  He redeemed us back to our Father, since we are part of His family.

The Old Testament slaves had a debt that they couldn’t pay.  Jesus Christ payed the debt by being sacrificed on the cross for the sins of mankind not his own He had no sin.  Jesus freed men from sin because his blood is Holy and more acceptable to a Holy God than any animal even those without blemishes.

In the Old Testament, the concept of a Kinsman-Redeemer holds significant spiritual and symbolic meaning, who bought the freedom if they were in debt were slaves, . Of his relatives In the book of Ruth, Boaz exemplifies the role of a kinsman-redeemer. He is a godly man who acts with respect and dignity, even in tempting situations.
Jesus is our Kinsman, he bought our freedom from sin.
