Jesus' enemies might not have believed that he would raise after three days, but they knew that if Jesus' body was missing his fellowers would have afield day with that. By posting guards they felt that Jesus would be there in three days, one must would abut their reaction when they found the empty.

Q4. Why did Jesus' enemies heed his prediction of being raised on the third day even more than his disciples? Did his enemies expect him to rise? Did his followers?

Jesus' enemies heed his prediction of being raised on the third day not because they believe in his words but to be on guard to see if Jesus would do what he said he would do and to their dismay he did exactly what he said he would do. For Jesus' disciples even though they were with him it seems that they hardly understood Jesus' words.

Jesus' enemies did not expect him to rise from the dead. They called Jesus a liar when he predicted his own resurrection on the third day. Neither do his followers expect him to rise from the dead.

Jesus' enemies heeded his prediction of being raised on the third day even more than his disciples because they thought Jesus' disciples will play a trick on them that he has risen from the dead.

No. His enemies did not expect him to rise.

Neither did his followers.

Q4. Why did Jesus' enemies heed his prediction of being raised on the third day even more than his disciples? Did his enemies expect him to rise? Did his followers? Neither His followers not His enemies expected Jesus to raise on the third day. His enemies believed His disciples may hide His body and pretend that Jesus was risen and proclaim Him as Messiah and thus create even more political troubles.

Jesus' enemies wanted desperately to rid themselves of this man and they believed that if his followers could do anything to solidify his stories they would. I do not believe they expected him to raise from the dead but wanted to stop anything from looking like he had. His followers were scared and lost. This was not suppose to have happened. The man whom they believed was their savour had just been killed in the most violent and terrible fashion. I believe doubt had hit hard and they forgot all about his raising from the dead.

Jesus' enemies heed his prediction of being raised on the third day even more than his disciples is that they didn't believed that Jesus will coming back to life on the third day, also Jesus' disciples were afraid and lost, they don't know what will happened to Jesus when he is dead. Jesus' enemies didn't even expect Jesus to rise from the dead and his followers also didn't expect him to raise from the dead.

Jesus' enemies believe that Jesus' prediction of His resurrection could take place and give Him more popularity because many will believe in Him. The disciples I think believe in His resurrection because they believe whatever Jesus say to them`what I think was that they did not understand it very well until after the resurrection has taken place that is when they took notice of what Jesus has been telling them concerning His resurrection

Jesus' enemies had recalled at His trial His explanation of His third-day resurrection. Jesus continued to speak of Jonah and his three-days in the whales belly. Although lost to his discipiles Jesus' enemies knew exactly what He meant; prompting them to place a security force around the mouth of His tomb to prevent His "escaping!"

Christ tried to prepare his disciples for his death but they did not hear of it, they just could not understand that it could happen so Jesus told it to them over and over again so that when it did happen and was risen they would know it to be true. However his enemies heard it weren't believers so it was easy for them to just be there. His enemies just wanted to prove that they did not say He had risen, So the made the tomb secure and guarded it so no one could steal his body and Say he had risen. They tried to prevent the spread of what they thought to be lies. Christ said it while on the cross that he would rise on the third day but I don't know how many of his followers actually heard that or believed it at that time...

Q4. Why did Jesus' enemies heed his prediction of being raised on the third day even more than his disciples? Did his enemies expect him to rise? Did his followers?

4.a. They feared the maybe there might be the chance that he would rise and that he would have even more followers then before, so they took the precautions of securing the tomb.

b. His enemies wanted a sign. He talked to them in parables. When Jesus said "Destroy this temple and I will raise it up in three days." They were talking about the Temple that took 46 yrs. to build. He was talking about His Body. They just didn't get it.

c. He told them enough times but it did not register with them at that time. His followers did not beieve he would rise from the dead but after he arose from the dead they remembered the scriptures and recalled what Jesus had told them and then believed what he said.

Q4. Why did Jesus' enemies heed his prediction of being raised on the third day even more than his disciples? Did his enemies expect him to rise? Did his followers?

Ans. The Pharisees believed on the resurrection in the last days. They did not want to accept Jesus as being the Son of God so you know that they were not going to believe on His return. But they took heed what he said, if for any reason He was to return they did not want the people to get a wind of it that is why they had the guards placed at the tomb.

Jesus' enemies heeded his prophessy of his ressrection more than his disciples because:

a) They ( Pharisess) believed in resurrection and had a the back of their mind that it was possible for him to rise.

B) They had not accepted him as the Christ and would not take chances should he prove them wrong. They thus took physical measures to stop the unstoable dynamic power of the Spirit of God that would raise him from the dead

His disciples (from their actions before and after his death} did not seem to have believed that he would rise from the dead.

In their hearts they knew that what He was teaching was true. However, they were afraid that if their supporters found out the truth, they would lose their support (this was already happening).

Their pride was also preventing them from accepting the truth (they were ego driven), as most people of today are!

The enemies of Jesus were so driven by hatred and jealousy towards Him that their minds and hearts were closed to His teachings and anthything He would have said, would have been ridiculed and discredited - there is no way that they could have brought it on themselves to proclaim His Gospel!

In their hearts they would have beleived what Jesus was saying regarding His resurrection was true, but if they were to preach this truth, it would mean accepting everything else that He was teaching.

This in turn would lead a loss of face in they community, their ego would be badly dented and the power they had over their followers would would disapear - humility was not one of their strongest points!

I believe that Jesus enemies heed to the prediction of Christ being raised on the third day out of fear. They were thinking about what He had said and didn't want to take a chance at being wrong. His followers didn't believe they thought He was speaking in parables again.

My feelings on the subject of Jesus' enemies heeding his prediction of being raised on the third day more than his disciples is this, the disciples followed Jesus and listened, hung on His every word and followed his willingly.  Jesus' enemies studied him and the scriptures looking for incriminating evidence.  They wanted him to misstep.  They never thought he would rise on the third day.  This is why they brought it up.  This would discredit the Man of Nazareth.  I do not believe his followers knew what to think.  I do not think they believed until they saw him.  Then what he had been telling them made sense.

The enemies of Jesus were really afraid that He really was superior to them. They were really afraid that He might really be the Son of God or at least a prophet sent by God. If He did raise from the dead, everyone would turn their backs on them and follow Jesus and they would lose their position and power and would be left with nothing.

I am not sure that the followers who were simple folk really understood what He had said about His death and resurrection. They were surprised when the tomb was empty and Thomas doubted it until he actually put his fingers into the wounds that were caused by the nails from the cross.

Why did Jesus' enemies heed his prediction of being raised on the third day even more than his disciples? With their devious minds contemplating a stratagem by Jesus’ followers, they urged Pilate to post a guard and secure the tomb so that no deception could take place.

Did his enemies expect him to rise? No, I don’t believe so. If they had, they would not have been so intent and adamant on crucifying Jesus. They were so consumed with pride, hatred, and greed that His crucifixion was their only solution to return to the status quo. This could not happen with Him alive, they probably felt that his followers would disband without their Leader/Teacher.

Did his followers? I think they didn’t understand what He was saying—but didn’t want to embarrass themselves by admitting it. Mark 9:31-32 says, “For He taught His disciples and said to them, “The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him. And after He is killed, He will rise the third day.” 32 But they did not understand this saying, and were afraid to ask Him.” The idea that Jesus could die and then come back to life again was so perverse that they just couldn’t grasp it.

There were some that believed in the Resurrection ( Pharisees ) But they believed it would happen on the last days. There had been restorations to life before in the history of Israel. Elijah had restored the son of the widow of Zarepheth (1 Kings 17:17-21). Elisha had raised the son of the Shunnamite woman (2 Kings 4:32-35). Jesus had raised Jairus' daughter (Mark 5:40-42) and the son of the widow of Nain (Luke 7:11-15). Of course, Jesus' friend Lazarus was raised after having been dead four days (John 11). At the hour of Jesus' death, Matthew records that the bodies of "many holy people" were raised to life (Matthew 27:51-53). These resurrections are treated as harbingers of Jesus' coming resurrection. Some of His enemies believed out of fear there would be something that would happen, others believed the body would be stolen and made to believe there had been a resurrection. Christ’s enemies, even after having succeeded in killing him, still feared that something unusual could still happen. There was possibility that he could resurrect or if he did not resurrect on the third day as Jesus had said in his lifetime, his disciples could go steal his body and then claim that Jesus had risen. This could be disastrous and would undo all that they had done- to put to an end the deceit of Jesus that he would resurrect.

( Matthew 27: 62-64 ) “The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priest and the Pharisees went to Pilate.” Sir,' They said. ‘We remember that while He was still alive that deceiver said “after three days I will rise again." So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, His disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that He has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse that the first".

It was folly to seal and guard the tomb with such a great security against poor disciples and to prevent the fear of Jesus coming out of the tomb by resurrecting. Here was all the power of earth and hell combined to keep Christ a prisoner, but all in vain, when the hour came, Christ was raised!

Why did Jesus' enemies heed his prediction of being raised on the third day even more than his disciples?

They were looking for a reason to kill Him, therefore anything He said were analized over and over again. His words were most likely also used to compare with scripture.

Did his enemies expect him to rise?

No they did not expect Him to rise as that would mean that they acknowledge that He is the Son of God.

Did his followers?

Also, I think, no. You have to understand that this was a very difficult concept for them to understand. Yes, He raised others from the dead but himself? Also they were overcome with grief after witnessing His flogging and death and now their beloved Teacher was gone.
