lighthouse2014
Q1. (Hebrews 8:6) In what sense is Jesus the "mediator" of a new covenant? What did he do to mediate this? Jesus is the mediator of the New Testament which he initiated by giving up his life for our sins. He took upon himself our punishment that we deserved for our disobedience to God. Because of his atoning sacrifice, God the father has placed him on the throne, at his right side. Because of Jesus atoning sacrifice, he has become the mediator between man and God the Father, he removed any disagreement between us and God. Paula Price
Jesus is our high priest, who is the mediator between man and God, to return us back to him. He is sinless and pure and the only one who qualifies to fill such a high position. He is greater than any earthly priest. The covenant that God made with Israel was only to last until a better one came, which was promised through the descendants of Abraham. Jesus was born and died on the cross to redeem man from sin, back to God the father. God speaks through Jeremiah his plan to forgive man of his sin and how it would be accomplished. through Jesus the old law is done away with and a new law or covenant is established. Jesus is the sacrificial lamb who died for the sins of the world, so that when we believe and call on his name, we are reconciled with God. the old law was for the Jews but with Jesus, the new law includes all men. This new covenant is the gospel of Christ and is written in our hearts and when we choose to live according to this new law of Christ , we are redeemed and forgiven of our sins and are back in good standing with God. When Adam sinned, man was separated from God. God hates sin, but loves us to much to want to see us perish, so He made a way for us to be returned to him and Jesus is the way! By Jesus Christ being one of us, He bridged the gap that there was between a Holy God and mankind that can’t avoid sinning. Jesus set the example for us to follow, even though we can’t be as Holy as He is. Jesus said “ it is enough for the servant to be as his master”. He died on the cross and died a death that He didn’t deserve. But He rose to His Glory on the third day just like He said He would.
KUSUMA NANDA
Jesus is to serve as the "mediator" of a New Covenant. He is called as "Mediator" the one who mediates between two parties to remove a disagreement or reach a common goal, mediator, arbitrator" (1 Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 8:6; 9:15; 12:24; Galatians 3:19-20). Here the party is israel.Sad to see the people of Israel is yet to recognize this work of God ,it is the WILL of God to save His own people. Godswriter
Q1. (Hebrews 8:6) In what sense is Jesus the "mediator" of a new covenant? What did he do to mediate this? He is the mediator of the new covenant in the sense that He created it by also completing that same covenant with His own death on the cross at Calvary which ensures for the world and those who believe in Him their salvation. He mediated it through His own death on the cross which sealed the covenant forever.
Jesus Follower
On 4/16/2007 at 12:06 AM, Pastor Ralph said: Q1. (Hebrews 8:6) In what sense is Jesus the "mediator" of a new covenant? What did he do to mediate this? He made a new covenant. We were unfaithful and broke the old covenant, so God did the new one. He paid our price for breaking it, by bearing the punishment on the cross, yet the new covenant is valid because Jesus was /is blameless. So God kept His side of the bargain, bore our punishment, and chose to keep us despite our unfaithfulness. Our salvation and security rest on the power of His indestructible life. Jesus gave up his life on the cross, taking on all our sins and defeating death.
