Q1. (Hebrews 9:14) In what way does Christ's sacrifice of himself cleanse the conscience in a way that the animal sacrifices of the Old Covenant could not?

Heb 9:13 The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean.

Heb 9:14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

Heb 9:15 For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance

Jesus who knew no sins took sin upon himself and experience and felt all of the pain and suffering that comes along with sin. No animal sacrifices was able to do this for mankind only the blood of Jesus Christ could cleanse the conscience and wash away every sin the was done.

Q1. (Hebrews 9:14) In what way does Christ's sacrifice of himself cleanse the conscience in a way that the animal sacrifices of the Old Covenant could not?

The animal sacrifices cleansed only the outward man of sin. I believe it is a type and shadow of our need to put on the righteousness of Christ, after His blood has cleansed us on the inside. After we've come to Him for salvation/forgiveness/cleansing.....His Holy Spirit dwells in us enabling us to choose to put on His righteousness and for the continual washing of our sins and conscience.

The animal sacrifices were once a year and cleansed the out man. Christ's sacrifice freed us from our sins and thus cleansed the inner man forever.

Jesus was the sacrifice of the New Covenant. He was unblemished and sinless. Only His blood through the Holy Spirit could give us a guiltless conscience to enable us to approach God boldly and unashamed. The blood of an animal has no power to clear the conscience. It was just a traditional ceremony practiced by the Jewish religion that had to be repeated over and over again by the priest because of it's lack of power as atonement for sin. There was no finality in it.

Q1. (Hebrews 9:14)

In what way does Christ's sacrifice of himself cleanse the conscience in a way that the animal sacrifices of the Old Covenant could not?

Christ presented himself as a sacrifice, offering his body for the sins of his people. This sacrifice transforms our lives and hearts by purifying us on the inside. We know the destructive effects of sin in our lives. Here we have the blood of Christ effectively cleansing our conscience, giving us this assurance of forgiveness, and helping us to lead a life spent in love and obedient service to God. Therefore we keep God

I studied the Life of Moses just before tackling this study on Hebrews. As I learned how God helped Moses to help the Hebrews build the tabernacle and set up cleansing, I realized how much god loved His Hebrew folks and all that he did for them. He kept it simple and he was pretty direct with them. There were plenty of foretelling of Jesus. When Jesus did come, he bore the sins for all of us and took them away. He became the replacement for all that "stuff" the Hebrews did originally at God's insistence. Pretty cool plan by God!

Q1. (Hebrews 9:14) In what way does Christ's sacrifice of himself cleanse the conscience in a way that the animal sacrifices of the Old Covenant could not?

Jesus is spotless, pure, He is God, He can cleanse our internal where animal sacrifices were just symbolic, they already lived and served their purpose. When they died they remained dead, as for Jesus, He rose from the dead, He is all power. Jesus can cleanse our minds and souls, putting your hope in something dead is wrong, useless.

The animal sacrifices of the Old Covenant was a ceremonial cleansing which only had an effect on the outward man. . . Jesus' sacrifice of Himself was able to clean the conscience, the heart / spirit (inner man) which in turn allows us to leave behind or forsake sin - permitting us to freely serve God. . .

Q1. (Hebrews 9:14) In what way does Christ's sacrifice of himself cleanse the conscience in a way that the animal sacrifices of the Old Covenant could not?

According to God's word, the animal sacrifices were only good for one year and had to be performed each year to atone for the forgiveness of sins. Jesus died once for all and not having to repeat over each year his death. He went into the true holy of holies to atone for the forgiveness of sins. His offering before God was accepted and the shed blood of Christ is the new order or covenant.

I am not sure how his blood cleanses the conscience other than by my faith in His work and His obedience to God the Father. I am saved by the grace of God through the sacrifice of Jesus of which I trust in him for this. Kinda hard to explain. It is just by belief/faith that God provided the perfect sacrifice for the atonement of my sins.

Q1. (Hebrews 9:14) In what way does Christ's sacrifice of himself cleanse the conscience in a way that the animal sacrifices of the Old Covenant could not?

Answer:

Jesus Christ is God.He is the image of invisible God-(Col 1:15- Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature).

What more, can anybody ask ffom God,who voluntarily offered Himself,as sacrifice for the forgiveness of our Sins. This God of ours, has humble Himself and descended from His Throne in Heaven,to be like us,yet retaining His divinity as God.

He endured as human all the humiliation, physical hardship,He bleed and died for all of us,that each and every one, will have equal playing field,to response to the Grace that was offered.

His sacrifice are the only, atonement that God the Father is pleased.

Isaiah 53:10-11-Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put [him] to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see [his] seed, he shall prolong [his] days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. 11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, [and] shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

God has reconcile us to Himself, through the death of His Son(2 Corinthians 5:18-And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation)..In fact it is also God that draws us near to Jesus, and not our own will..John 6:65- And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.

This is God

Q1. (Hebrews 9:14) In what way does Christ's sacrifice of himself cleanse the conscience in a way that the animal sacrifices of the Old Covenant could not?

If the blood of animals had some effect in cleansing, the blood of Christ will be much more effective, will purify our consciences. Christ's sacrifice, unlike the sacrifices of the old covenant, remove the paralyzing guilt that keeps us from God by decisively cleansing us from sinful deeds (from dead works). The Old Covenant, they had to go through the sacrifice every year, with Christ, one time only.

1) Christ's sacrifice of himself cleansed the inner person. The Old Covenant ceremonial cleansing was outward.

The sacrifice that Jesus made cleanses the heart, inner person, and the conscience so that acts that lead to death can be left behind. It is the blood of Jesus that was put on the mercy seat that does the internal cleansing not the blood of animals. It purifies and sanctifies us because Jesus was without defect or blemish making Himself an offering for our sins.

The way that Christ’s sacrifice of himself cleansed the conscience in the way that animal sacrifices didn’t is that the blood of the animals was visible. The blood of Christ is to us invisible. So in for Christ’s sacrifice to be the cleansing blood we have to intelligently see that in our minds and therefore cleansing the inter man.

Q1. (Hebrews 9:14) In what way does Christ's sacrifice of himself cleanse the conscience in a way that the animal sacrifices of the Old Covenant could not?

In the old Covenant a high priest represented the people before God. They were to sprinkle the unclean people with the blood from sacrificed unblemished animals and ashes from a heifer. This was done to cleanse the unholy people their sins of the past year. The blood of the sacrificed animals was also sprinkled on the mercy seat in the holy of holy's. Thus the people were ceremoniously cleaned in order to approach God who was Holy. Christ who was without sin and physically not blemished offered up his blood from the suffering and dying on the cross. He offered up his own blood for the cleansing of our sins before God. He was our High Priest, whose blood was sacrificed in the tabernacle in heaven not made by human hands. Through his sacrifice we are cleansed of our sins so we can approach God. By cleansing our sins from the past, which have been forgiven our conscience can be clear, we can be confident in our forgiveness. Christ offering  has relieved our hearts and minds of self doubt and condemnation.

The blood of goat and bulls and the ashes of cows were sprinkled on the people who were unclean and this made their bodies clean again.  This is symbolic of forgiveness of sins to be worthy to God.  This was a physical cleansing of the body.  This was the example to prepare us for the actual act of the perfect sacrifice which is Jesus, whose blood would be the one time atonement for our sins. He offered himself through the eternal spirit as a perfect sacrifice to God. His blood makes our conscience pure from useless acts so that our service is acceptable to God. God knows the heart of man and it is the heart that matters to God.

Q1. (Hebrews 9:14) In what way does Christ's sacrifice of himself cleanse the conscience in a way that the animal sacrifices of the Old Covenant could not?

Christ's complete sacrifice not only covers our sins but it also removes sins completely from us to the point that the sins are as far as the east is from the west meaning completely gone in God's eye's. Animal's sacrifices were done yearly because they only covered the sins not removed them.

The old way depended on man's work. Show up, bring right animal, DO DO DO.

Christ's sacrifice starts to benefit us when we acknowledge that we are stuck! DOING won't cleanse us. In faith, by the power of the Holy Spirit we trust in Christ, acknowledging God knows our innermost wicked thoughts and cleanses us. That is where true freedom starts, internal, not external

In what way does Christ's sacrifice of himself cleanse the conscience in a way that the animal sacrifices of the Old Covenant could not?

Jesus' willing, holy sacrifice, His love of the Father to love obey Him, no matter the price, no matter the pain, it be innocent, but not foolish. His loving sacrifice leads some to witness for Him as martyrs until death. There is no comparison with an Old Testament animal sacrifice . This is the perfect eternal love of God calling us to purity, sacrifice of self and service in this fallen world

Christ’s sacrifice of himself was able to cleanse our conscience because he offered himself unblemished to God to cleanse our conscious of death. He didn’t need to atone for his own sin every year like the priest did under the old covenant. The shedding of his blood sanctified us because he is ceremonially clean forever. The animals sacrificed under the Old Covenant couldn’t stand before God because they where ceremonially unclean.
