Q2. Psalm 95

Recommended Posts

The Lord is a solid rock, unchanging, and loved us so, giving our salvation as sinners. He is the creator, King of all. He our provider, as he made all things. He also guides us in all things. For these things we need to worship the Lord.

I believe the warning is there, to help us not make a similar mistake to those ancestors and we do not forget those things mentioned above, that without God we would still be dust. He created us, He deserves all the worship and without God now we will not enter His place of rest.

Q2. (Psalm 95) In Psalm 95 we are commanded to worship the Lord. What are the reasons why we should worship contained in this psalm? Why do you think the warning in verses 8-11 is included in this psalm? How does this fit with the earlier elements of the psalm?

Reasons to worship: He is the rock of our salvation, great King above all gods, he created everything he is our Maker

Vs 8-11 We must be faithful to God and praise Him. When things do not go my way I tend to forget about God or grumble against Him, wanting to run the show myself.

I must have full faith in God and praise Him as my everything or my worship is worthless. I must have devotion and love toward God and regard Him as my everything.

We should worship God because we belong to him. He is the alpha and omega. We should humble ourselves and thank him.

God wants our love. He doesn't want us to harden our hearts and turn away from him. This is a warning of what happened before and he doesn't want it to happen again.

He wants us to truly love him, not just an outward show but a deep personal love, to remain faithful and trust him even when life seems overwhelming.

We worship, we should bow down, because we recognize both God's ownership of us and his responsibility to care for us. As Jesus put it, he is not a hireling, but the owner of the sheep. Therefore, he is willing to lay down his life for us and did! He is the shepherd, we are the sheep and he cares for us.

The Psalmist is reminding us not to be like the Isarelities; regardless of what situation they were in God brought them out of, but they complained, rebelled, doubted, disobeyed and tested God. His point is that worship not only consists of praise, thanksgiving, and outward submission, but also submissive hearts before the Lord, which is an inward worship.

That the way we live our lives comprises our worship of God, not just what we say with our mouths on "worship days."

We are to Worship God as an expression of Love and adoration. It is possible to admire someone and appreciate what they do without being in Love with them. In the same way, we are told in this psalm to Worship God, it has to do with our Love of the Lord. It can be expressed only with the giving of our whole heart and life to Him.

This warning is here to let us know that a hardened heart is as useless as a hardened lump of clay or a hardened loaf of bread. Nothing can restore it and make it useful.

This warns us against hardening our hearts as Israel did in the wilderness by continuing to resist God

I think finally we have to acknowledge the difference in times between the old and the new covenant. We have gone from being a people God has chosen to a person God died for, saved washed in his blood, redeemed, filled with the Holy Spirit, we are a new creation. We can apply the psalms personally in all Jesus' sacrifice and redemption and the Holy Spirit's work implies. So the fruit of God's Spirit is joy, a shout of joy. We can remember his sober exhortation to not complain within our hearts but to always remember God's work in our lives.

In Psalm 95 we are commanded to worship the Lord. What are the reasons why we should worship contained in this psalm?

* We worship, we bow down, because we recognize both God's ownership of us and his responsibility to care for us.

Why do you think the warning in verses 8-11 is included in this psalm?

* Because it is to God's glory that we live. To see His power and deliverance in our lives.

* We must always stay focused on Him and His love towards us and to see Him as He really is.

* We are warned to never to give honor or thought to the best of our past, but to remember and praise Him for bringing us out.

* The glory belongs to Him and Him only and if we fail to do that then we glory in our slavery or captivity.

How does this fit with the earlier elements of the psalm?

* All in this Psalms we are urged to worship, to create a heart of worship so that there is a continual praise in our mouths and hearts. We must have an inward praise so that an outward express is seen as to the way we live our lives in glorifying Him and always praise Him for supplying our needs and telling of how He delivered us out of our slavery and captivity. That He is our God and His is all powerful and that we have what we have only because of Him. We only live because of Him.

If we are praising Him with a true inward life than we are at peace with and He with us. If not and we show Him to be a unloving and unfair judge than we have made Him no matter than the others gods of this world.

Warning here is:

Never dishonor our Heavenly Father, by whining or complaining. Never stop praising Him for what you have or don't have for you make Him lower than the angels and make Him a weak God. Never put Him in the class of the others gods of this world for they can do nothing for their hearts are as stone.

This why Paul found himself content in all things and places of His life. He understood to never touch His glory and to all ways praise Him for whatever place you find yourself and what ever you have in your hand.

We see here to never stop the praise towards Him and all that He has done and all He has given.

we worship and we bow down because the people recognize God's ownership over our lives. In verses 8-11 we see that there is a warning because the way we live our lives can compromise our worship to him,not only with our mouths can we worship but also with our full hearts in the obedience to God. The earlier elements of the psalm had contained shouting and giving thanksgiving to the Lord and all the people gathered together.

In psalm 95 we are commanded to worship the Lord because He is our salvation and because He provides for our needs.

The warning in verses 8-11 are included in psalm 95 because worship doesn't just consist of praise, thanksgiving, and outward submission. Worship is also having our hearts submissive before the Lord.

The reason we are to worship the Lord in this Psalm is that the Lord is the Great God and the Great King above all gods.

The warning in vv. 8-11 is included to remind us that true worship is about obedience and not lip service.

It fits in that this underscores the point that praising God in a praise and worship service can only be valid when we are honoring our God in our every day lives and in living out the ideals and principles God has laid out in his Word.

Some of the reasons why we should worship the Lord contained in this Psalm include: because He is our Rock of our salvation (steadfast, certain, Almighty and Powerful, etc.); He is the great God, the great King (far) above all gods (He is far above all other things in creation which He created, including us); He controls in His hands all of creation since He created it all Himself; He is the LORD our Maker, our God (implying, I think, that there is not(or should not be)any other LORD nor Maker in our lives but the Lord our God); we belong to Him as the people He pastures and cares about us; and we should not ever go astray from Him nor let our hearts go astray from worshiping Him as our God so we cannot enter into His rest (which is in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ). The verses 8-11 are included in this Psalm because they explain how we are not to worship God with disobedient hearts and minds, and this all fits in with the earlier elements of the Psalm all relating to the theme of why and how we are to worship and praise the Lord our God, our great King and the LORD our Maker.

We need to worship to acknowledge how great our God is. We should recognise the ownership God has over our lives as well as His repsonibility to care for us. Our whole lives should be worship to God, whom created us and everything around us.

Vs 8 - 11 talks of the importance of having a heart of worship instead of just lip service. If our whole lives are worship then our heart is in the right place - we live a life that is pleasing to our Father. This fits in with the rest of the psalm because one is talking about the importance of worship and the other is talking about the importance of our state of heart in worship.

1. This Psalm encourages us to worship God because He is our Creator, Saviour & King; He is great & mighty; He is our God ; our Shepherd & we are His flock & He cares for us!

2. The warning in vs 8-11 has been deliberately included to remind us that we are to worship God in spirit & in truth: what we utter with our mouth we must mean it in our hearts;when we lift up our hands in praise & adoration & surrender we also must be submissive to God in our spirits. In other words our overt actions during worship should match with our covert submissive heart.

''The way we live our lives comprises our worship of God, not just

what we say with our mouths on 'worship days'."

The reasons why we should worship the Lord as contained in this psalm are

1. We are made to understand that God is the rock of our salvation

2. He is the gerat God

3. He is the great King above all all gods

4. He owns the deep places of the earth & the heights of the hill are HIS also.

5. He made the seas.

6. He formed the dry land

7. He is the creator of all things.

The warning in vs 8-11 is included is to remind us that God is always grieved when we harden our hearts and err. He was grieved with the Isrealites in the wilderness when they tried God by their act of disobedience. In anger God declared that they shall never enter into His rest. This is also a warning to all of us not to grieve God.

This fits the earlier elements of psalm which states that we should trust God in all things no matter the condition and we should also praise HIM at all times because HE is worthy of our praises.

We should worship GOD in truth and and praising, because GOD is so good to us. He wakes us up every morning and He take the bad of our life and helps us to see that good in our life. Verse 8-11 tells us that GOD do not want us to harden or hearts, but by gentle and forgiving. The Bible tells us what is in a person heart will surely come out of their mouth.

I thinkwe should worship to be thankful for what God has given us and for what he can do for us. The warning is there to tell us not to push God by not beliving in him and testing him or you will not rest with him. It fits by saying praise and worship God do not go against him you are to be in the world but not of the world.

It is commanded because it is our duty to worship him because he is the creator of this universe and he has made us. we have to obey him and worship his glory. He is the only god and there should be no other reason why we should stop praising him.

God has seen how man has complained against him and doubted his magnificance. He doesn;t want it to happen again and deprive his creations of anyhting. So he mentions it again and again not to ignore his voice when he speaks to you.

It gels perfectly because if we believe in god then there is no question of doubt and we in turn should praise him for his goodness.

The reasons we should worship God as contained in Psalm 95 are beacause God is our God, shephard, Creator and Mighty. The cildren of God who left Egypt for the promised land, most of them did not enter the promised land because of disobedience. The waring in this Psalm is thus a reminder that our worship should include total obedience to God or else we will not please the Lord.

He is our Lord, our Maker, and he has ownership over us.

Worship includes not only prayer and thanksgiving, but more importantly the way you live your life. If you praise God, but do not follow His will, you are not truely worshiping Him, you are showing doubt.

This last half of the psalm relates to the second because it ties the two types or worship, praise on the outside and following God's will on the inside.

Psalm 95 gives us ample reasons to worship the LORD. First, the LORD is a great God and the great King above all gods. Next because He owns the depths of the earth, and even the mightiest mountains are His and finally, The sea belongs to him, for he made it. His hands formed the dry land, too. Making it plain, I would say, we worship God because He is our creator and He requires, commands that we worship Him. Verses 8-11 offer a warning to the reader because as Dr. Wilson stated, "Too often our worship is empty words, rather than a submissive spirit full of faith in God and a readiness to obey him." We must learn to offer God our praises with a sincere and submissive heart. We must please Him in all our ways. This warning states that those who harden their hearts will not enter into God's rest. God withheld the promise of the promise land from the Israelites when they sinned against Him.

We worship to show our joy, thankfulness and acknowledgment of God's greatness. He created all and takes care of us; therefore He deserves our praise and worship.

The warning reminds us to be obedient and to be true believers. Worship isn't just an act we do; it involves submissive hearts. All we do shows how we worship God.

What are the reasons why we should worship contained in this psalm?

A joyful shout to the Rock of our salvation, in whom we find eternal refuge. We should come in His presence shouting to the heavens, confessing our thanksgiving for all that he has done for us. We should praise the Lord, because He is a great God, He is a great King, above all. The deep places of the earth are in His hand in the sense that he owns them. The mountain peaks are His, because He formed them. He created the oceans and it was His hands that shaped the earth. we should worship and kneel before the Lord our maker, because He is our God. He is our God by creation and redemption through Jesus Christ who was the good sheperd who gave His life for us. We are the people of His pasture, and the sheep who are led, guided, directed and protected by His nail-pierced hand.

Why do you think the warning in verses 8-11 is included in this psalm?

This is the voice of God warning His people against the hard heart of unbelief and rebellion. It is God grieving and angry over the lack of faith and trust of the unbeliever who has forgotten everything that God has brought them through. One who complains when tested and tried by God instead of remembering God's goodness and giving thanks through trials and tribulations, knowing that God is ever faithful and is the same God who delivered them in the past. God is warning us that unbelief will keep us from God's rest and reguge.

How does this fit with the earlier elements of the psalm?

This is an abrupt change from worship to warning. In the earlier verses, worship and reverence for the God of creation was evident. Praises were sung to God for who He is " Lord of All", what He is in the lives of the believer, a great God, a great King above all, the Lord our Maker, Our God, our sheperd. The Israelites went from praise to rebellion, spanning 40 years, going from worshiping God to faithlessness.

Adonai, represents absolute supremacy because He inspite of His greatness as mentioned in verses 3-5,He loves us and is our good Shepherd verse 7. We need to fall protrate before this Great King of Kings who comes to visit us.

Unbelief limits the Godhead of God and undermines His works which have been a continual experience. Jesus himself detested unbelief and spoke about it.

The first part of the psalm is purely meditative on the supremacy and love that God has for us and the second part is a warning of unbelief that limits the work of God.
