Both are necessary because God is looking for a heart that is contrite and a faith that says God is able. If either one is missing the prayer becomes ineffective. Why are both humility and faith necessary? What happens when one of these qualities is missing? God does not like a haughty, proud, and arrogant spirit. Humility in our prayers is honoring God. With out faith we can not please God. When we have faith in our praying we are telling God we believe who He is and He is able to take care of our needs. With Humility we are saying He is our creator and we bow down before Him as our God. Faith and Humility will move mountains. Like the faith of a mustard seed! Glory to our God. KelvinJC Posted September 30, 2007 Report Share Posted September 30, 2007 1) First, we need to define what does humility means - "the quality or condition of being humble; modest opinion or estimate of one's own importance, rank, etc. " We need to humble our heart before God and acknowledge that God is the one that provide and guide as in our work of life. God does not want to see us having a prideful heart and have a wrong attitude towards prayer. Thus, I believe we need to examine ourself first and also need to have the strong faith in God in prayers. 2) Without faith, we will be able to please God. We will also begin to get discouraged and will have dark clouds flying around of mind (doubts). We need faith in our prayer because we need to Him that he is our savior and have given us eternity life in Heaven. On the other hand, having humility is showing that we acknowledge that we are God's servant and are willing to humble our heart and bow down before him to serve him. Jezemeg Posted September 30, 2007 Report Share Posted September 30, 2007 In this verse David is not glorifying himself by expressing his humility, I'm sure we've all fallen into the trap of bragging about our 'humility' by virtually waving placards declaring how unworthy we are...this is not the type of humility God requires; He is instead requiring us to acknowledge that without God in our lives we could achieve nothing, yet despite our own inability, God would have us in His presence, He seeks a relationship with us. Our faith is exhibited by our trust that God will not abandon us, no matter what we do...it is we humans who turn from God, because we cannot tolerate our own fallibility before God. Nor does He condemn us when we fall short of our own expectations, such is His love for us. When we are too focussed on 'humility' we are in danger of worshipping our inability, it is self worship and can only lead to separation from God. To not acknowledge our own faults as the reason why we require God to lift us once more from the pit that we've made for ourselves, is to claim that we don't need to change our behaviour, we can continue in our transgressions. This thinking stems from a misinterpretation of repentance...I hear it often from those who've just participated in confession...'it's okay now, I'm right with God' at the same time grabbing the keys to go to the casino, or beginning to drink until they reach the stage of abusing their loved ones from their drunkenness. This is not repenting...this is displaying an intent to continue sinning, in the mistaken belief that you don't have to strive to do what is right, that it is okay to remain doing wrong...because God will hear our offhand 'sorry' and forgive us. Faith is needed to show belief that God can do what He said He would do. If humility is missing, then a prideful person is trying to ask God for help. If faith is missing, you won't believe it will help to call on God & you won't be sure He'll act in your behalf for your greatest good. Humility keeps us reminded that we can do nothing to redeem ourselves, that we are nothing without God, we are but mere dust - it is his breath that makes us anything and we are His. What happens when one of these qualities is missing? You cannot have faith and cannot therefore be faithful if you are not humble. We should go to God with a sincere heart and by being humble shows that we are serious about our request. Showing humility and having faith go together when approaching God. 2. At the same time we must approach Him humbly as He inhabits His holy mountain with those who have a humble spirit. Simply put, if we believe who He is then we must submit ourselves totally in fear and reverence. Faith without works is dead. Humility and faith are companion manifestations. What happens when one of these qualities is missing? We know we are nothing without God and we must totally turn our lives to God and His will in order to have faith in His promises. One without the other is meaningless. What a blessing to know God will hear our cry and answer our pleas as we strive to serve Him. ? nerradb Posted October 4, 2007 Report Share Posted October 4, 2007 As soon as we stop being humble is when we start trying to do things in our own strength and thinking we can go it alone, this is when we stumble a fall. We must remember that God made us and cares about the smallest of things. Thats where faith comes in that we believe that we are important, that every little thing is important to Him, otherwise those little things we do on our own and we miss out on the blessing of walking with God. Without humility we are not walking with God with our every little thing and without faith we do not believe he cares for all things about us. EuniceC Posted October 4, 2007 Report Share Posted October 4, 2007 When we are humble, we become like little children, trusting, and that is the kind of relationship that pleases God, when we surrender all to Him, and believe in Him; "trust and obey, for there's no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey" together with faith, our prayer touches the very heart of God, because we have trusted Him and we also believe that He can deliver us. whenever i pray and one of these is missing, I return from prayer feeling unfulfilled, because I know in my heart I have not been humble enough to trust and I havent believed enough to convince Him of my faith. I pray thinking that it is just a formality, that means i can do things on my own, so why do I need God then? Faith and Humility are necessary for us to be heard in His presence. What happens when one of these qualities is missing? 17But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God. They are necessary because they make your heart in the right condition to come before God. He will recieve no one that is proud and especially anyone that does not have the faith to seek Him and ask for His grace and mercy. When it come to God I don't think that any one of these came be missing. With out faith you would not believe in God and His love for you. And with a proud attitude you would not want to believe that God provides for you. When either one is missing you can not come to God and seek His blessings and forgiveness and might not have the desire to do so. With out faith why would you seek after God and if your are proud then He would not hear you. We all are to ccome to God with the right attitude and I think that is what David had when he was humble and praying for God's mercy. We have to accept the fact that we are imperfect. And we must believe that despite our imperfection and flaws, God answers our prayers because he is our loving God. Why are both humility and faith necessary? * Humility is a state of being humble and we understand this in a spiritual sense then we understand that we must come to our God not only in a state of humility, but a state of surrender ( remember the song " I surrender all" well that's exactly how we are to approach His throne. God will not look upon pride or an attitude of as such. Love approaches with gratefulness and apperception and a willingness to wait upon the other. * Faith is the substances of things hope for and the evidences of things not seen; We must come before the Throne of Grace to receive mercy; With out faith our works are dead; We must have faith a small as a mustard seed; Faith, hope and love along with humility is the formula of God's attention. What happens when one of these qualities is missing? * God turns a deaf ear! Any one can pray but its the attitude in which they pray. Jesus said, faith will move a mountain; Humility says; there is one greater than Me and I have come to only do My Father's will. We have the only God that can interact in our lives that benfits us, other gods can only stand an appear real, the only thing that comes from them is unanswered prayer and the a way to allow the demonic behind them to steal, kill and destroy the believer in them, but the eternal way for them is death. Not just natural death, but a spiritual death. We will all live eternally one way or another, until satan, his antichrist and his demons are throw into the lake of fire and those of a natural man that have chose to not accept Jesus as their Lord and chose not to submit with humility and faith and learn to live a life of holiness will be thrown along with them. You say, how can I say this, because the bible states that, " that God is the only one that can destroy the soul" and is it not the soul that goes to heaven or hell. Is He not a merciful God and He would not leave even the hard hearted in their state of torment and denial of Him. This will be their last judgment and by then they will be ready for it. When we see Him as He really is and we have chosen to deny Him and live a life unto ourselves and the gods of this world that become only demons that had no power to save us, what greater torment could there be than seeing a loving, caring Lamb that came and die for them and they chose to know Him not. The love that will pour out towards them at that time and yet that cannot touch Him or even tell Him at that point forgive me I could have know you! God views service and humility as strengths not weaknesses. Humility is a fruit of the Spirit. The Spirit does not make us humble, but he enables us to humble ourselves. Faith is knowing that God will fulfill his promises, no matter how difficult our problems. Even when we do not know how God will act, we must trust that he watches over us, and will do what is best for us. If one of these qualities is missing, God will not hear our pray. Both humility and faith is necessary in Prayer because humility is not self-degradation; it is realistic self-assessment and commitment to serve God, while Faith is obedience action in response to what God Has said. Having faith in God involves an exchange of self-trust for God-trust. We stop trusting in our self and Him. We abandon reliance on our limited source of knowledge and start receiving from His unlimited source. When one of these qualities is missing in our prayer life, we will be exalting ourselves instead of God. Our prayers can not be answered if we do not put God in His proper position. Faith denotes trust, to believe, trustworthy or dependability.You need both of thes in your prayers. When one of these is missing you lose comfidence in your prayers and lose hope in it's answer.
