Pardon is still the foremost thought in the contrite Psalmist's mind. He supplicates it under another image. He fears lest God should keep his sins in the light of His countenance. He therefore prays that an averted look should no more have them in view. Conscious of innumerable transgressions, and feeling need of entire pardon, he beseeches that not one single offense should remain unsprinkled by the obliterating blood. Desire of pardon is linked to earnest longing for renewing and sanctifying grace. The cleansing of the heart is the absolute work of God. It is a new creation. It is calling that into existence which no power of man could accomplish. Conscious of utter impotence, the cry struggles for creating and renewing grace. Supplication is added for continuance of God's life-giving presence, and the perpetual indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Remembrance of some special sin will often haunt the heart. A frightful specter will stand before the eyes. It was so now with David. The dreadful thought was present, that his abominable sin had caused a fellow-creature's death. He saw that his hands were stained with blood of another human. He must be a stranger to all peace,until sure of deliverance from his heinous guilt. With his soul, therefore, he prays that such mercy might be given unto him. The result would be sure; he would be loud in praise, proclaiming that God was a covenant-keeping God, and righteous in fulfilling His promises to forgive all sin through the atoning blood. Obliteration of guilt is again implored in terms fragrant with Gospel-sweetness. Faith clearly sees the purpose of sacrificial rites. It knows that the blood streaming from the dying victim foreshowed the blood of the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. It knows that this blood is expiation perfect, entire, and forevermore; that its sprinkling removes every stain of evil, and makes the contrite believer pure as purity can be in the sight of God. After any sin, whether it is considered a small sin or a great sin, one can have a "pure heart" when confession is made by faith we are purified. What does a "pure heart" consist of? A pure heart consist of a willing spirit to carry out the will of Father. What is the relationship between a "pure heart" (Psalm 51:10) and a "united" or "undivided heart" (Psalm 86:11)? In both, a "pure heart" and a "united" heart the psalmist is stating that he is willing to be in the service of the Lord. Who purifies the heart? What is the process? God purifies the heart when the sinner repents and accepts the cleansing of the blood of Jesus which was shed for our sins to be forgiven. It is a heart that has a right and willing Spirit to serve God again. A divided heart is not one wholly committed to God's will. Sin divides our hearts. A pure heart means that one is willing to do the father's will. A pure and united heart are the same thing. Purification takes place when one confesses, repents and accepts by faith the grace of God. By being cleansed by the Spirit of God, giving yourself over to Him and His mercies that are new everyday. It consists of a renewal of your heart toward God living to do His will and keeping His comandments, using your life as an example to others and bringing glory to the onewho died that you might live. A pure heart is totally devoted to the will of God the divided heart is torn between live in the world and living for God, wanting to do his will but drawn to the sin that cause death to the soul and the faith that keeps us. The Spirit of God renews our spirit and cleanses our heart making us turn from worldly desire and toward the gift of life that the Father has prepared for those who love Him. The process starts as Psalms 119:11 says I will write your word on my heart that I will not sin against you putting the word of God on the inside is the start of healing, Praying in the Spirit is the inforcing power that strengthens you to do the will of God when those wordly **** try to creep back into your life. Our hearts are no longer clean or, we are not pure hearted. As long as we retain our sin we will be burdened or convicted of that sin. Our bones will be broken, spiritually. A pure heart is on that can stand before Yahweh guiltless, without sin. Since our heart, or inner self cannot serve two masters, an undivided or united heart is one that is fully commited to either Jesus or the devil which means we are either absolved of sin or the servant of sin. Go to God with a sincere heart and ask for forgiveness, repent, and stop sinning. 2. After repenting, you must ask God to purify or renew your heart. You must be sincere and live a clean life. 3. A pure heart and a united heart would show that you have been forgiven and have been renewed. Your heart has been restored to righteousness. 4. God purifies the heart. 5. We need to be united in God's ways by putting Him first and the things he loves first (people) and do things that will please God out of love. We need to keep away from sin, as our sin effects others that God loves (so in this, we hurt God). We ask God to purify our hearts, by His Spirit through Jesus our savour. Peter observed, "He made no distinction between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith" (Acts 15:9). God spoke to Peter, "Do not call anything impure that God has made clean" (Acts 10:15). God is in the heart purification business. The author of Hebrews wrote:"How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!" (Hebrews 9:14) In simple, we need to repent our sin, ask for forgiveness and live in a new live and turn away from your past evil deeds. 2) A pure heart is one that complete trust the Lord as His Savoir and believe that he is the only God that exists. David asks God to do a work of grace! With God all things are possible, including making impure hearts pure! What does a "pure heart" consist of? Again I think this question is linked with a future question i.e. relationship between a pure heart and an undivided heart Jesus spoke of the potential of the heart for impurity (or implied also purity) Mat 5:19-20 Gordon MacDonald speak of the heart as the command center of our inner world and so purity or impurity of the heart will drive our actions. I think when the Scripture is speaking of purity of heart it is mainly speaking of undivided devotion to the LORD. 2 Tim 2:22 captures something of this 2Ti 2:22 Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. There are two aspects in what Paul is speaking about (1) fleeing evil and (2) pursuing the things of God with those who call on God from a pure hearts. This exhortation describes (I think) purity of heart, its like in the 1st chapter of Hebrews where we see God loved the facts that Jesus loved righteousness but hated lawlessness. Nothing can be held back from God because he knows us to our intermost part. A pure heart is one with a steadfast and willing spirit. Pure and undivided hearts are both hearts that are joined with God. They are hearts that are obedient to God. God purifies the heart through the blood of Jesus. A pure heart is the one that seeks to please God rather than one own desire, i.e. those who do not worship idols and never tell lies. The relationship between the two is that, they are both God centered. It is only God who gives pure heart. The process starts the moment who accept Him as your personal savior. He died to forgive and puirfy us from our sins so that we can have a pure heart and a relationship with our Heavenly Father. We can only have a purified heart through Jesus and the cross. It is possible for us to have a "pure heart" after great sin by repenting and confessing that sin to God who is faithful to forgive us and restore to us a pure heart (1 Jn 1:9). A pure heart is a heart clean of sin and in fellowship with God. A united heart is a consistant, stable and believing heart in fellowship with God. Following the Living Word of God and submitted to His leadership. God purifies a person's heart through repentance, confession and restoration. God promised to restore our fellowship with Him at that point. A pure heart is one that seeks to not sin and continually confesses any wrongdoing. An undivided heart is one that seeks to please God to the fullest. Once we sin, we must ask forgiveness for our fellwoship and relationship with God to be restored.
