The angel's announcement clarifies that this is unlike any other birth before or since.

- the child is to be named Jesus - "whose help is Jehovah"

- the child will become great - Jesus will become the greatest servant to ever live in human flesh

- He will be called "Son of the Most High" - Jesus will be intimately connected to God - "one"

- He will inherit the throne of His father David - the promised King that will bring in the fulfillment of the promise of an everlasting Kingdom

- The Kingdom will never end

Q1. (Luke 1:31-34) What did the angel's announcement say about who Mary's Child was and who he was to become?

That His name would be Jesus and He would save His people from sin, by dying on the cross, in our stead. He would be called "the Son of the Highest." The highest is another way of referring to the majesty of God. Mary pondered these things and wondered how could these things be...Mary did not ask for a sign, so she was not unbelieving. She accepts her role without question and thus is a model of faith even though she does not fully comprehend and understand everything. The work of God in Mary introduces something unknown before or after: the birth into the human race of One who is both God and man.

Mary received the announcement that she was to have a Son, who will be named Jesus. He will grow to be great and to be called the Son of the Most High. God will make him a descendent to the throne of David, and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever. Also, His kingdom will never end.

Q1. (Luke 1:31-34) What did the angel's announcement say about who Mary's Child was and who he was to become?

Mary's child is the fulfillment of the Davidiac covenant. He is Son of the Most High God and a direct descendant of David and the tribe of Judah. He is to be called Jesus (which means savior). He will save the world. He will become a great person, He is the coming Messiah, long awaited for by the Jews ( God's chosen people). His kingdom will endure forever.

Q1. (Luke 1:31-34) What did the angel's announcement say about who Mary's Child was and who he was to become?

Firstly his name was to be Jesus, which means God saves His people. The name Joshua means the same.

He will be called the Son of the Most High God. He will be great and God will give him the throne of David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever and his kingdom will never end. Everyone in those days knew those words. They were taught to every Israelite, every Jew. Especially in the time Mary lived under the Roman occupation, everyone was kind of expecting the Messiah, or at least hoping He'd be coming.

The Messianic description was applied to Mary's yet unconceived son.

Mary's Child would be the Son of God. God The Holy Spirit Himself would be the boy's father.

His reign over the house of Jacob (Israel) would be everlasting. Jesus will reign over the Kingdom of God, centered in Israel forever.
