jeannethebean
Jesus referred to Himself so many times (more than any other name) as "The son of Man". Which is interesting since He IS/ was/ and always will be GOD! The miraculous virgin birth, (foretold hundreds of years before the one and only virgin birth ever on Earth) and the name Immanuel ("God with us") also foretold by Isaiah, are both BOLD and "in-your-face" prophetic/ signs pointing us and the Jews (then and now) to our ONLY hope for everlasting life (through God's mercy and grace). To believe is to receive. To accept that the ONE true LIVING God lives with us, IMMANUEL, leads to a broken and humble spirit and a desire to die to self. It leads to 1st John 1:9 and repentance from sin. God is JUST to forgive us our sin because what Jesus, the perfect, virgin born, sinless son of man, did on our behalf. That's the only way we can be free from sin. He could not have been sinless without being God. (All men and women fall short of the glory of God.) There is no one righteous, not one. THERE ARE NO GOOD PEOPLE ! (Just believers saved by grace.) This is possible because God lived among us and lives today within us. *(our hope of Glory) Amen, amen, amen.....AMEN! butch
Praise the LORD ! I quess i got ahead of myself in replying to Question # 3 . Anyhow the HOLY BIBLE says that this was done to fulfill prophecy. This was all planned before the foundation of the world . The HOLY BIBLE is 2/3 or more prophecy about our LORD and Saviour JESUS CHRIST . It prophesies of HIS coming , HIS sacrifice of HIMSELF for us, HIS resurrection, and HIS soon return to gather HIS children and Reign for 1000 years . I thank GOD for giving me understanding of these things and only want to know HIM better.
haar
Q4. (Matthew 1:23) How did the prophetic concept of the virgin conception and the name "Immanuel" find their fullness in the birth of Jesus to Mary? The prophetic concept of the virgin and the name "Immanuel" found fullness in the birth of Lord Jesus because He was conceived by a virgin- Mary through the power of the Holy Spirit. Hiss name Immanuel meaning God with us was fulfilled because God became man, born by the virgin Mary actually lived among His people and still does even now. humblejon
Mary had yet to have "known" a man, her baby was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and she remained a virgin. This was foreshadowed, along with the child's name Immanuel, in Isaiah 7:14. Matthew included his in his gospel to point out that Jesus' birth and the circumstances surrounding his mother, completely fulfills Isaiah's prophecy. WinstonY
With God all things are possible! This is what we must remember. If we do not then wr will not be able to move mountains. Through lsaiah God is stating the impossible , in Mary the impossible is done. But how much more impossible os the virgin birth than aperson of evil repute being born again? MargievdH
I'm curious to know how, as you say, the initial fulfilment of Isaiah 7:14 might have taken place in the prophet's time.
Old Jerry
The prophetic concept of the virgin conception and the name “Immanuel” found its fullness in the birth of Jesus to Mary by Joseph adopting the baby Jesus.
Rosesam
Q4. (Matthew 1:23) How did the prophetic concept of the virgin conception and the name "Immanuel" find their fullness in the birth of Jesus to Mary? Biblical prophecy is all about patterns. The western mind influenced by the Greek thinking perceives prophecy as prediction and fulfillment. But the Hebrew perception of prophecy is a pattern summarized which is replayed in the future. Sacrifice of Isaac was a prophecy, a pattern re-enacted by the Father and the Son on Calvary. Examples of such abounds in the scriptures. In Isaiah 7:14, Isaiah asks king Ahaz of Judah to ask for a sign in his trying times. Even though he refused to ask for a sign, God gave him a sign saying a virgin would conceive and bear a son who would be called Immanuel. And that Judah’s enemies would be destroyed by the time the child grows. This sign was fulfilled in the days of Ahaz. The Hebrew word for virgin could be interpreted as a young maiden or a virgin. So in Ahaz’s time it was a young damsel who gave birth to a son and the enemies were destroyed when the child grew as prophesied. But this prophecy’s ultimate fulfillment was in the birth of Jesus Christ, born of a virgin, becoming Immanuel – God with us and giving us salvation, whereby our ultimate enemy, satan, was destroyed at the cross. Katy
Q4. This prophecy was first told in Isaiah 7v14. And Matthew quotes it in his gospel. It is fulfilled in Jesus day when He the Messiah was born of a virgin and He was to be called Immanuel which means God with us. Just as Isaiah tells Ahab not to fear but to have faith and trust in God, and the fulfilment of this is Gods very presence being with us always, so we need have no fear.
