Kaitlin
Joseph's action of taking Mary as his wife suggests first of all obedience to God. Second, it suggests love, righteousness, etc. (All the ones that Helena said are very good.) Joseph was part of the line of David, and his naming and thus adopting Jesus as his own son make Jesus even more a part of the line of David as the prophecies require. sahala p.s.
Q5. (1:24-25) What does Joseph accepting Mary as his wife say about his character? What is the significance for prophetic fulfillment of Jesus as a Son of David that Joseph "named" the child "Jesus"? About his character, Joseph accepting Mary as his wife says that he is righteous man, he did the right thing. The significance for prophetic fulfillment of Jesus as a Son of David that Joseph "named" the child "Jesus" is that through naming the child Jesus, Joseph could affirm or remind him and other people that this child was, just as the meaning of his name, the one that was prophesied that will save his people and establish the throne of David
Stan
Q5. (1:24-25) What does Joseph accepting Mary as his wife say about his character? What is the significance for prophetic fulfillment of Jesus as a Son of David that Joseph "named" the child "Jesus"? It says that He was a compassionate man, He was a devote man, He believed in and obeyed God when the Angel spoke to him so he was righteous. The name Jesus made Him the Son of God, the Son of David made Him King of the Jews. The people who believe know that as Son of God, He was the Messiah to come and as the Son of David He alone had been promised to be King of Israel for ever. His thrown would be an everlasting thrown. What is the significance for prophetic fulfillment of Jesus as a Son of David that Joseph "named" the child "Jesus"? http://www.joyfulheart.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=718 Joseph taking Mary as his wife shows that he is a Godly man whom fears the Lord. He has faith as deep as Mary as he takes her without arguement or anger. He bypasses what others may say(man) but looks to what the Lord has said. For Jesus to be Joseph's son and heir to the line of David, Joseph had to name him...therefore giving to him all the legal rights as his son if not being his biological father. What is the significance for prophetic fulfillment of Jesus as a Son of David that Joseph "named" the child "Jesus"? Joseph was a Godly man who was caring and honorable. His actions were righteous without regard for what people thought about him. He was concerned about serving God. Joseph was of the line of David and as Jesus was his adopted son, he was also of the line of David. This satisfies the prophecy that the Savior would be of the line of David. JanMary
Q5. (1:24-25) What does Joseph accepting Mary as his wife say about his character? It shows that he was a godly man with integrity. He had courage and humility. He was obedient to God and he loved Mary. He clearly cared more about doing the right thing than what people thought or said.He protected Mary and Jesus. He was a tender and just man. Not one word is recorded in scripture that Joseph spoke but the fact that God chose him to be Jesus' earthly father, speaks volumns about the kind of man he was....to have God's stamp of approval to rear His only son says it all. What is the significance for prophetic fulfillment of Jesus as a Son of David that Joseph "named" the child "Jesus"? For Joseph to name the child meant that he was legally adopting him as his own son, making him responsible for Jesus as a biological father would be. It also meant that Jesus would "inherit" the lineage of His earthly father, which was the line of David.

RickJW
Q5. (1:24-25) What does Joseph accepting Mary as his wife say about his character? What is the significance for prophetic fulfillment of Jesus as a Son of David that Joseph "named" the child "Jesus"? The fact that Joseph accepted Mary as his wife, shows that he has faith and trust in her as well as in God. It shows his compassion, commitment and righteousness. In the custom of the times, the fact that Joseph named the Son, showed that he was claiming him as his own son. This would give Christ the link back to David required by the prophecy, as well as establish Joseph as a righteous, faithful person.

Jewell
Joseph accepting Mary as his wife says that he had full trust and faith in God. The prophetic fulfillment required that the savior be of the line of David - by Joseph accepting the child as his (naming him), he fulfilled that prophecy. studybug52
The fact that Joseph took Mary as his wife says he was humble of character and believing in the fact that The angels were from God. He submitted to God in this and God's messengers. humble and submissive. Willing to suffer for faith and God's revealed dreams to him. The significance of Joseph nameing the Child meant that Jesus was accepted by Joseph as his own son , In adoption which was done when a child was named the child became a legal part of that man's family and family line. Since Joseph came from the line of David the king this made Jesus a legal decendent of David thru his Adoptive Father Joseph. g

Jen
Q5. (1:24-25) What does Joseph accepting Mary as his wife say about his character? What is the significance for prophetic fulfillment of Jesus as a Son of David that Joseph "named" the child "Jesus"? The Bible says that Joseph was a righteous man and also you learn that when God spoke he obeyed. He trusted God. By naming Jesus, Joseph was legally adopting Jesus as his son. I don't know how many "righteous" men there were at that time but it seems to me looking at that culture and todays he was a remarkable man. Once again he trusted God and obeyed. God Bless! Marloes
Q5. (1:24-25) What does Joseph accepting Mary as his wife say about his character? What is the significance for prophetic fulfilment of Jesus as a Son of David that Joseph "named" the child "Jesus"? An angel told Joseph to marry Mary. Joseph obeyed God. He knew the baby was not made by another man but by God. If He was made by another man, then there would have been a bigger problem accepting. But Joseph showed to be loyal to God. I think that the previous question showed more about his character. Respectfully, this one is working towards the prophetic fulfillment. If you do that on purpose, it doesn't count. Please feel free to correct me!
