What sort of righteousness is Jesus talking about, do you think? What promise are we given in this Beatitude? An intense desire for righteousness put you at odds with the world because the world desires the things of the flesh, not moral perfection. . Romans 8 tells you that the flesh and the spirit are contary one to another. we are promised that our desire and thirst will be quenched. An intense desire for righteousness is quenched when the Holy Spirit invades in a vessel
jabarke
Hungering and Thirsting for Righteousness. One of the thoughts I had was hunger & thirst are not desires we just decide to have. I cannot decide to be hungry or I cannot decide to be thirsty. Where does it come from or how is it produced then? When we eat and drink our bodies use this to fuel our actions & the more activity we are involved in the hungrier or thirstier we become. We must, then, need spiritual activity to make us spiritually hungry & thirsty. I believe activity that is serving & glorifying God is what produces that hunger & thirst for righteousness. Also, when we are sick we do not have much of an appetite. Being in the Word, praying, fellowship with other believers & actively serving God by serving others is the cure for this illness & will reproduce that hunger & thirst for righteousness

Though the world around us recognizes and denounces the critical situations that we face because of unrighteousness, injustice, inequality, lack of truthfulness, honesty, etc., on a large scale, when an individual chooses to do justice or be truthful or honest on a small scale, then those around him/her feel confronted with their own personal unrighteousness, and often respond with a
fool for christ
The culture of world keeps on changing for the worse and away from God. The people in this world desires and lusts for everything that the flesh enjoys. To have a desire for righteousness is to desire to please God rather than one
KAFWEMBE
Q4. (Matthew 5:6) How can an intense desire for righteousness put you at odds with the world? What sort of righteousness is Jesus talking about, do you think? What promise are we given in this Beatitude? The world has its own standards. To be successful in the world you have to be compromising or bending in your attitude. Success in the world is about money and wealth and this must be achieved at all cost. On the other hand seeking righteousness can be painful because of the need to stick to what is right in the eyes of God without compromise. Seeking justice does not require compromise even though the situation may be hurtful. The righteousness Jesus is talking about is walking with the Lord everyday and taking the footsteps he took. Jesus Himself walked with His Father even in situation that were humanly tough. He never compromised His relationship with His Father. He walked in the will of His Father and He wants us to do the same. Jesus promises that if we seek righteousness we will find it "blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled"
Jewell
An intense desire for righteousness puts us at odds with the world because so much around us is in conflict with what Christ teaches. How do you keep sin out of your life and out of your home when it filters in through television and other media? How do you keep it out when others bring it in? How do you keep it out when it stares you in the face via the magazine rack at the grocery store checkout stand? We can't survive in this world without the exposure to sin - all we can do is limit the exposure and focus on following Christ. I think the righteousness Jesus talks about is the desire, need, and willingness to follow Christ. The promise Jesus gives is that if we seek righteousness, we will find it. What promise are we given in the beautitudes? Because we want to be able to have God's presence living within us in a world that wants to be selfish all the time. The righteusness that God is talking about is the one where we are thirsty and we hunger for it and the Lord is the only one who is able to quench it.That we will be able to recieve it from the Kingdom itself and not by human effort.God would give us His son so that we may give him our lives for the exchange of His on the cross. If you truely desire the righteousnes of God then the way you live , work, and play is just opposite of the world. So therefore the world does not understand you. 4b What sort of righteousnes is Jesus talking about, do you think? The kind of righteousness that only comes from God. Isa. 54:17 - Their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord. 4c What promise are we given in this Beatitude? His promise of giving us His Righteousness if we really desire it. What sort of righteousness is Jesus talking about, do you think? What promise are we given in this Beatitude? An intense desire for righteousness put people of God at odds with the world because they are not righteous. This rigteousness Jesus is talking about doesn't come from man but by the word of God. The bible tells us that man cannot live by bread along but by the word of God. This is spiritual food and drink for the righteous. For the people that hunger and thrist for His word, our reward is that we shall see God. In Christ Reese,

What sort of righteousness is Jesus talking about, do you think? What promise are we given in this Beatitude? The world looks down on those who desire righteousness as close-minded prudes. I don't think Jesus is talking about striving for our own righteousness, but about entering into real relationship with Him so that we take on His perfect righteousness. We are to thirst for being in right relationship with God and to hunger to become more and more like Him, not through our own efforts, but through staying connected to Him. This Beatitude promises that our hunger and thirst for His righteousness will be satisfied through His presence within us.

What sort of righteousness is Jesus talking about, do you think? What promise are we given in this Beatitude? Righteousness is something the world sees in you that it can not explain. It is Godly living, seeking the Lord, having a close relationship with Him, and having Him living in you, guiding and teaching, and keeping you on the right path. If we seek the Lord, study His Word, commune with Him, we will be filled with His righteousness.
saved
We would be at odds with the world because the world is the opposite of righteous. it is filled with every vile and evil thing that seperate us from God, causes us to sin. To love and follow God means we are an enemy of the world and vise versa. The righteousness he was speaking of- I think he meant to truly seek be like Christ. to want more and more of Him. To follow his word and his commandments, and to live them out. To never feel you are " there" but always desire more and know you will always be needing to grow and get closer to what he has called us to be. The blessing is that those who seek such things will recieve them, as God gives generously to those who ask and seek after Him!
Scout
How can an intense desire for righteousness put you at odds with the world? What sort of righteousness is Jesus talking about, do you think? What promise are we given in this Beatitude? The righteousness Jesus is talking about is a deep, connected and personal relationship with God. I think of the times Jesus went off before the sun came up and prayed. The Apostles didn't know where He was, but He needed that time with God. That is what I desire. The would infringes on that time, and does not make it easy, because it does not see the importance That spiritual state of being prepares to do battle in the world. Sure there is evil and corruption, but that did not stop Jesus. Satan is doing everything he can to pull the human race to the dark side. It is our job - protected by the armour of righeeousness - to do battle in the world. God loves this world and everybody in it. When we are filled, we will humbly go into the world and do our part to bring God's Kingdom to the Earth.
amy_m
Q4. (Matthew 5:6) How can an intense desire for righteousness put you at odds with the world? What sort of righteousness is Jesus talking about, do you think? What promise are we given in this Beatitude? Being righteous in our time has lost all meaning. It is tough for others to accept truth and honesty. By no means is anyone perfect, but to stand for your Biblical morals is almost hilarous to those who do not know Christ. An outcast you can become. But thats ok. "And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, "Only in his hometown and in his own house is a prophet without honor." I think He is speaking of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God keeps us on track. Without this amazing comforter, we couldn't stand for what Christ spoke and taught. The Spirit is refered to as water many times in the Bible, so hungering and thirsting for it makes sense. And then we will be filled!! Tina
Q4. (Matthew 5:6) How can an intense desire for righteousness put you at odds with the world? What sort of righteousness is Jesus talking about, do you think? What promise are we given in this Beatitude? Desiring righteousness with an intensity seems to be interpreted by the world as maniacal. They don't understand why it is necessary for anyone, even Christians, to be desiring righteousness to such a deep extent. They feel as long as they don't commit the worst sins, they are living a good life anyway. Jesus is referring to the righteousness that sets us apart from the ordinary Christian. He wants us to be more like Him, to be sanctified more and more in our walk with Him. The promise we are given is that we will be filled with His Holy Spirit and the thirst we have for righteousness will be quenched.

What sort of righteousness is Jesus talking about, do you think? What promise are we given in this Beatitude? I belive that the righteousness that we are seeking is Jesus Christ. We want to be like him, we want to please him. The righteousness that Jesus is talking about is summed up in the first two commandments of the Old Testament and the Great Commision of the New Testament. We are to love God and our fellow man and anything that we do toward that end is righteous. The unrighteousness is fulfilling our selfish needs at the expense of others. Candita
Q4. a. Several brands can be placed on one trying to be righteous in this world - bible thumper, Jesus freak - which would put someone off from their quest to be righteous. If one could get past that brand, one could conquer the world and win in their quest for righteousness. b. Righteousness is a relationship with the Father. The goodness that goes with that - mainly keeping the ten commandment to the letter they are written. c. The promise that God will feed our thirst and hunger by "filling" us with the Holy Spirit. What sort of righteousness is Jesus talking about, do you think? What promise are we given in this Beatitude? The world makes fun of those who desire to do what is right, to tell the truth, to seek real justice. Those whose ideals get in the way of success are mocked. Those who refuse to compromise, even to their detriment, are scorned. This is what puts one at odds with the world. Jesus offers a blessing to those who seek righteousness with all their heart, who thirst for it. And he promises that they will be filled with it. It means that we should hate the sin in us and long to be righteous. Desire it, ache for it and it will be given to us.

iam4-1god
A 1-I see so many "christians today that are not seeking the truth about God's will for His children. They go to church occationally, and that is the extent of their relationship with God. They still cuss, drink, live loosly. I believe that God wants a people who desire to be like Him. They actively seek His wisdom and knowledge. They want His will for themselves and those around them. The world, on the other hand, wants to divulge in sensual desires-fleshly sensations. I want to feel good, have fun, be entertained. Afterall, it's about me and what I need and want. Therein lies the difference. Child of God wants what He wants. Child of world wants what child of world wants. I guess A 2 is included with this answer. Put God first- always. Ask Him about everything. Nothing too small or too big for God. A 3-We will be filled, if we seek after these things-righteousness. Desire them with all your heart, and you shall be filled! Gloray! What sort of righteousness is Jesus talking about, do you think? What promise are we given in this Beatitude? Righteousness puts us at odds with the world - it makes people uncomfortable. When you take the high moral ground regardless of those around you and make decisions based on Jesus rather than the latest and greattest, people don't know what to do. They will resort to ridicule, laughter and outright hostility. The Spirit will guide us to the highest possible moral ground - and that's where we take our stand. Jesus promises He will fill us to overflowing with righteousness if we desire it.
