Q1. Incomparably great power

Recommended Posts

Paul's prayers that eyes may be opened to see God's incomparably great power were offered, because the churches in Asia Minor needed encouragement to continue in their faith against worldly influences. To do so, they needed to trust in who they were in Christ. That they were sealed in the power of the Holy Spirit. That the power given in them and around them to persevere was the same power that raised Christ from the dead. He desired them to be strengthened in the truth of God for them and with them and in them. He hoped to encourage them as a unified body of Christ that God`was at work in every circumstance and no entities, spiritual or human could come against the power of Christ. The victory is already won! He wanted to strengthen their faith. He asked that their eyes be opened to the truth and not focused on circumstances or worldly living.

In Asia Minor the churches were being faced with heathen religions teaching their own supremacy and offering human enticements such as prostitution in connection with the temple of Diana. There was also internal fighting particularly over some members with Jewish backgrounds proclaiming "historical advantages" over Gentile believers causing disunity in the church. The people were struggling with temptation to compromise morally, to fit in a secular world or to follow their beliefs. But some, though following their beliefs, were drawing away from the body of Christ in monastic lifestyles. Paul wanted them to be strengthened to follow Christ trusting in His power, truth and love as a body of believers. This is the same power that raised Christ from the dead....and truly incomparable!

(Ephesians 1:19) Why does Paul pray that God would open the Ephesians' eyes to discern "his incomparably great power"? What is wrong with their eyes? Where does this power operate according to 1:19? Which miraculous event does Paul use as an example of this level and type of power? Exposition

Sometimes we're spiritual blind.

Then we can't see the truth.

Then God has to open our eyes.

Then we can understand God's great power.

This power is spiritual.

Paul uses the example of the resurrection of Jesus.

I BELIEVE PAUL PRAYED THAT WAY BECAUSE THE CHURCH WAS PROBABLY FUNCTIONING MORE AS A HUMAN INSTITUTION AND NOT IN THE DIVINE, MIRACULOUS REALM OF GOD .I THINK PAUL WAS PRAYING THAT THEIR SPIRITUAL EYES BE OPENED TO SEE AND EMBRACE TRUTH.THIS POWER OPERATES IN THE HEART, OR THE SPIRIT OF MAN; HE PRAYED THAT THE EYES OF THEIR HEART BE ENLIGHTENED.PAUL USES THE MIRACULOUS EVENT OF JESUS BEING RAISED FROM THE DEAD AS AN EXAMPLE OF THE DUNAMIS POWER THAT SHOULD BE DEMONSTRATED IN OUR CHURCHES TODAY.THIS IS THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT; THIS SAME SPIRIT THAT RAISED CHRIST JESUS FROM THE DEAD ALSO QUICKENS OUR MORTAL BODIES DAILY.PAUL WANTED THEM TO KNOW THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

Q1. (Ephesians 1:19)

Why does Paul pray that God would open the Ephesians' eyes to discern "his incomparably great power"?

What is wrong with their eyes?

Where does this power operate according to 1:19?

Which miraculous event does Paul use as an example of this level and type of power?

He wants them to appreciate their glorious privileges in Jesus and the tremendous power which was required to give Christ to the church as Head over all.

Spiritual blindness. Paul is speaking about the eyes of our hearts being enlightened. He implies that a proper understanding of God

The Ephesians believers had lived with the belief that evil powers or demons controlled them. That they were pawns in the devil

Paul prayed that the Holy Spirit would open their spiritual eyes to see Jesus as the risen Christ, sitting in the heavenly realm at the right hand of the Father. They had to look beyond the natural and start believing that the same power that had risen Jesus from the grave are available for them(us) too and that they had to move in that reality. The power operate through Christ in the church, his body on earth

Faith gives us the ability to "see" the power of God's love demonstrated by God's raising Jesus from the dead and seating him at the throne of heaven. Our ability to see the unseen power of God's love is based on trusting in what God has done for us,in us,and through us in Christ Jesus. The problem is we often turn our "eyes" away from Christ and on the things of this world. This is what the Bible calls blindness. May God shine the light of Christ on us that we may see God's power at work.

1.So they can realize that God will use them, and that God will give them the power they need to do His will. Nothing will be impossible for them if it is in Gods will.

2. They ar unenlightened as to Gods ability to truly give us everything w need to spread His word

3. In believers

4. God raised Jesus from the dead. Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead and did many miricles by the power of God, to prove to us that God is real. Christ lived among us, and proved once and for all that God will give us the strength and power to do miricles for Him as long as we stay in His will.

Paul prays that God would open the Ephesians’ eyes to discern “his incomparably great power because he wants them to see that there is more power in them than they think they have. I just realize how power they have in Christ so that is what is wrong with their eyes.

This power operates with God because he has this power to raise the dead and that is the same power he is instilled in us. Paul used the example of the level and type of power when he said that it was the same power that raised Jesus from the dead.

We believers do not automaticly look with spiritual eyes. We need someone to remind us that the true meaning of scripture is seen through the spirit. Christians need to look up or look into the spirit to see the difference between God and us. His power is mighty - His power is exceedingly great and we have comprehend this to just begin to see the power of God.

This mighty power is at work in believers and in the whole body of Christ, His church.

The example put forth is the power exerted when Jesus was raised from the dead.

Why does Paul pray that God would open the Ephesians' eyes to discern "his incomparably great power"? What is wrong with their eyes?

Paul wanted them (and us) to know the hope and riches to which they/we have been called.
They (and we) lacked the spirit of wisdom and revelation to see His power and riches.

Where does this power operate according to 1:19?
In Christ

Which miraculous event does Paul use as an example of this level and type of power?

The resurrection of Christ

Paul wants God to allow the Ephesians to see what kind of power that is out there for them to be able to use. He wants them to have the ability to grasp the concepts of this power. He needs God to open up their minds to be able to understand that power.

People have a very hard time to understand that which can not be seen with the human eyes. He wants them gto be given a chance to "see" what power is from God.

The power in 1:19 comes from God. It is in a direct supply for us to use when we pray to Him and ask Him for help. Paul uses the resurrection of Jesus to describe the type of power that is for the whole church.

Verse 19: his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength,

There seems to be two reasons that Paul prays in this verse. 1) so that God's incomparable great power is available for us so that a) we ourselves will be resurrected as was Jesus with a new body  with extended power and abilities and B) that in this side of our dying in this mortal body we can have access to this power. Until we allow the Holy Spirit full rein in our lives we will not know the full extent of God's incomparable power.

Our eyes are often clouded by the fleshy powers of this world and until we see Christ in his transfigured form we will not have access to the full powers of the Lord.

This power of God operates in this world and the next.

This power can be seen in the miraculous work that God has done in overcoming death and destruction by the resurrecting of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus is risen indeed.

Paul wants the Ephesians, and now us, to realize the power we have received.  They couldn't see (get) it.  I admit that I can't either.  But I do believe strongly in the power of the resurrection, so I need to believe that power is still available, as Paul says it is.  The church I am involved with works with those in poverty and addiction.  We see lots of defeats.  But there are a few victories!  We need to see God's power at work changing lives.

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.  That their eyes are not opened to know that He is the same God that resurrected Jesus Christ, and that He is unmatched.  The greatest of His power to us-ward who believe, according to working of His mighty power.  The resurrection of Jesus Christ and now Jesus sits on His right hand in heavenly places.  And has put all things under Jesus Christ’s feet, and gave Him to be the head of all things to the Church.

a)      I believe the Ephesians didn’t know this power for the lack of wisdom, revelation, knowledge of Him v.17

b)      Paul used the example of Jesus Christ where this power of God is not limited and in all things God’s super eminent greatness power was demonstrated in the most incredible act of                death, raisin from the death to Jesus Christ.

Paul was praying to God that He must open their eyes, because he was seeing that these people were not seeing the great things that was done by God to them.So he was praying to God that He must give them spiritual eyes,so that tbey can see things with spiritual eyes  not with natural eyes.

The example power that Paul is using is the power that God has used raised Jesus from the dead.

From Peter
