In what way does excessive worry on sin? Are worry and trust exact opposites? In my Bible Version the phrase worry or worrying is occurring six times, while little faith is only one time. Carrying our worries, stresses, and daily struggle by ourselves shows that we have not trusted God fully with our life. Excessive worry is sin because it is a sign of little or no faith. Worry is thinly disguised unbelief. Worry and trust are exact opposites. Worry deals with unbelief and fear of the unknown. Yes, excessive worry borders on sin because it seems to be contrary to God's promise which is that we should not worry because He is there to care for us. Excessive worry seems to imply that there is no one to help us out of our problem. But God says He is there! I think that worry and trust are exact opposites because when you are worried it means that you do not trust that God is going to help you. First, Jesus tell the disciples "take no thought" for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Second, He tells them, "take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?" And finally, He told them, "Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself." In what way does excessive worry border on sin? Are worry and trust exact opposites? More than 5 times, which tells me that this is a serious matter to The Lord. Why? Because worry, anxiety, and/or the thought about things in this life that cause us to worry will separate us from God. We will think about our problems-try to come up with a solution ourselves, when we should go straight to God and give the problem to Him. Let Him work it out. That is what He wants us to do. Give it to Him. We should be concentrating on God-worship, prayer, Bible study, etc. Seeking His Kingdom. Looking for the truth. Communion with Him. We can't do these things if we are worried about bills, groceries, etc. If we trust God without wavering, then we can believe that He will take care of us. Then we can concentrate on seeking His kindom, and let Him take care of our light work. This doesn't mean that we can quit our jobs, and stop paying bills. It means that we can go to Him and ask for help, and He will help us, if our heart is in the right place-we are asking for the right reasons. Isn't God wonderful?! Are worry and trust exact opposites? The phrases appear many times. It borders on sin because it consumes our thoughts and separates us from God. I believe they are opposites. When we worry we are not trusting God to work in our lives as he should when we make a prayer request of him to remove our fears. And remove our fears he will if we only come to him in prayer. He wants our minds focused on earthly things, on our possessions or lack of them, as long as our minds are not on God. My two favourite verses in Scripture are Philippians 4:6-7: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about these things." In our study verses (Matthew 6:25-34), Jesus warns us four times not to be anxious. Anxiety is the source of much conflict in our lives. If we feel insecure about ourselves we distort our relationships with others. Anxiety is also a form of fear, and is a sin because it demonstrates a lack of confidence in the sovereignty of God to deal with our concerns. It is a manifestation of mistrust. The more we accept God's sovereign hand upon the uncertainties of life, the less apprehensive we are about life, and the less we are insecure. People who worry the most pray the least. There is nothing that we face in life we cannot take to God. When we believe God's Word that he meets us in our need, we pray. God cares about everything we face. He told us many times the ways in which He will provide for us, and Scripture is full of examples of Him doing just that for His people. Prudent planning for the future is not the same as excessive worry. We are told here to put our trust in God rather than in our own devices. If we are going to lie awake at night it shouldn't be worrying about tomorrow, it should be meditating on the greatness of God and His ability and willingness to do for us the things He has promised. Are worry and trust exact opposites? I counted 5 times. Certainly enough to show how important this concept is. Worry is not itself a sin, but it is why we are worrying that borders on sin. Invariably the reason we are worrying is that we are focussing on our material posessions and have moved our focus away from God. That is a sin. Are worry and trust exact opposites? In The Living Bible, Jesus specificially mentions "do not worry" and "don't be anxious about tomorrow" three times. However, the whole passage is devoted to this point. Excessive worry borders on sin because it shows a lack of faith in God. Instead, it shows that where material possessions are concerned, that we have shifted focus onto them instead of on God. I agree with "Without faith it is impossible to please God." Hebrews 11:6 Therefore, yes, worry and trust are opposites. As jr. 4624 says, it is different when planning for the future. I agree. All of us should plan for work and retirement. Are worry and trust exact opposites? In this passage I counted the phrase "do not worry" 3 times. Worry shows a lack of faith in trusting the Lord. It robs us of that perfect peace and causes us to question God. When we get to this place we are tempted to take matters into our own hands to provide our needs and that can mean lying, cheating stealing etc.These are definitely sin. "Do not worry" and "do not be anxious" and "take no thought" appear many times in this text. To worry means one does not place much confidence in God. Once you become a child of God your worries are his. I believe worry and trust are opposites. When you trust, you place all confidence in that person. So you will not worry. If we trust in someone we do not need to worry about anything that concerns them. We know that they will come through no matter what. I feel that we do not give enough trust to God to supply our needs. By not trusting God, we are giving into sin. We are turning our backs on God and taking a worldly view of all that we need or want. Excessive worry is sinful because it denies God's rightful throne in our lives. He is IN CHARGE. When we give Him our lives, we are no longer our own. We are transferred into the Kingdom of Light, and He is King. Yes, worry and trust are opposites: WHO is in charge? God? or Self? If God, then FAITH that He provides.
