Q3. Deceiving Yourself

Recommended Posts

Q3. (Matthew 7:21-23) How is it possible to deceive yourself, so that you presume that you are "doing" when you are only "hearing"? (see James 1:22-25). How might it be possible to prophesy, drive out demons, and perform miracles in Jesus' name and not enter the Kingdom of heaven?

We can pray, quote bible verse and do good works, but if we do not follow Jesus to God the father we will parish. We must follow God, live with God in our hearts. Show other people that God lives within us, and lead others to salvation.

I believe that people decieve themselves all the time into believing that they are something that they aren't. They also delude themselves that things they see in others are not present in their own lives. I believe that people need to constantly examine themselves and their motives to be sure they are really following Jesus and not just their or someone else's ideas for some self-centered reason. We often try to figure out on our own some service that seems to be for God and then ask Him to bless it and us instead of trying to see what He's already doing and joining in. If people do all kinds of good works thinking that they are the way to get to heaven, they aren't doing the work as the result of their inner change, their turning away from worldly things to follow Jesus. It is the desire to serve, the laying down of one's life for others that is the evidence of a true heart change to following Jesus. It is that change rather than the works themselves by which we gain The Kingdom of God.

People believe what they want to believe.

Our mind sometimes denies things that are perfectly clear.

When we are lazy and don't read the Bible, maybe we never find out.

Sometimes Satan does miracles to fool us.

Sadly, it is far to easy to rationalize a position in one's mind that is favorable to the world rather than to God's kingdom. It can be done so faintly, subtly, by the Devil, or even by ourselves, justifying it is OK, when in fact it is directly against God's commandments. Fortunately, God hates sin, but not the sinner, thanks to Jesus.

We should do only thins things the father tells us to do, not what we think we should do. We should not trust our own judgment, but rather that of the Holy Spirit. So it seems liufe can be challenging to discern the right thing, but in reality God's commandment are clear, and it is not difficult as we pretend. It si simply that there are a lot of worldly things we don't want to give up for Him.

A)We can kid ourselves, through the deceiver, into thinking going to church, doing spiritual things, is doing what Jesus asks of us, but if we have wrong motivations however subtle underneath e. g, self-centred personal satisfaction, glory, pride, we are hearing but not really changing how we think& act. Real test is if our love for God is real, we want to serve him only in everything we do

B)It’s possible to do miracles, prophecy if God gives, them this ability, but if we don’t humbly submit to Jesus totally, allow him to be first &most focus guide for all our thoughts &actions, our pride, sin, is still in control &we haven’t given him he wants–OUR HEART .Our good works won’t get us into kingdom of heaven. If we turn around to God, renew our love for God and are willing to change and be obedient to his word more closely, he will forgive us. Jesus is more concerned with our walk than our talk.

It's very possible to deceive ourselves by not looking at our inner character. Take an honest evaluation of what type of character we have, admit to ourselves and God that we are in no way perfect. Ask God to forgive our sins and indwell in us the gift of the Holy Spirit. Only when we open our hearts to the teaching of the Holy Spirit do we begin to experience good works in our character. We are not changing ourselves, God is doing all the work and will continue until the day of it's completion. Good works are not 'good law' they are achieved through humility and submission to The Holy Spirit. Jesus is not talking about outward show of faith here, no He cuts straight to the bone here, He is talking about our HEART and what truly motivates our actions. He is talking about our faith, trust, humility and submission, and a deep desire to be obedient, to be made righteous through His Holy Spirit.

False prophet have distorted the truth, since the beginning of God's creation. Many have 'claimed' to do miracles and drive out demons. people who claim to be prophets in God's name but they are in truth charlatan's who use God's name to acquire a following. Then they exploit the people who 'accept' their lies.

Before an individual can be saved, he must first learn that he cannot

save himself. M. R. DeHaan, M.D. (1891-1965) American Bible teacher

Faith without works is putting your whole heart and soul into the works you are doing for the Kingdom.  You cannot believe the teachings of our Lord and not work for him.  It was possible for them to  prophesy and drive out demons and perform miracles in Jesus' name without entering Heaven.  The acts they did they did to glorify themselves and not to glorify God.

We can easily deceive ourselves about our spiritual state by becoming over-familiar with spiritual things, and by surrounding ourselves by spiritual people who are doing spiritual things.  When we are with such people as they do spiritual ministry, we become a part of what God is doing through them.  However, if our personal life is filled with continued disobedience to His commands, we are NOT His sheep.

You can be around spiritual atmosphere, aware and know what to do but don't do it.  It is possible to do these great things and not enter the Kingdom of heaven because one does not know Christ personally and He doesn't know you.

People are able to deceive themselves by only listening to the word. They go to church on Sundays. They read their bibles. They do bible studies. They even have a very strong prayer life. But they do not follow the path of God at all. They keep the word of God to themselves. They do not share or live what they hear.

Just uttering the name of Jesus Christ is a very strong and powerful deterrent for evil. However, the person that used this to drive out demons or perform miracles were not spiritually attached to the Lord. They did not have him in their hearts or souls. They were book smart but they had no common sense about them.

It is possible to be deceived by going to church and helping in the church but that isn’t the only thing that God wants us to be doing. He want us to be proclaiming his word and to go out into the community and help our there also. I guess that it might be possible to prophesy, drive out demons, and perform miracles in Jesus’ name if you are doing it for the wrong reason. If you doing it for yourself gratification then that is for the wrong reason.

We must do what the Word say's not what people are saying, we have to do the word not just hear it.

There is power in the name of Jesus.

We are to receive and welcome the Word in a humble/gentle/modest spirit and let it take root in our hearts.   Then we are to be doers of that same Word.  External worship is expressed in outward acts.

If our reasoning is contrary to the Word, we will end up 'hearing' the Word only and not 'doing' the Word, but will be doing what our reasoning has ended up guiding us to do.

It does not end by hearing .... the doing portion also involves keeping ourselves unspotted and uncontaminated from the world.

The Name of Yahusha (Jesus) is powerful

I see the presumption of only "hearing" too much, "I thought he was a Christian because he was in my Sunday School class," words actually spoken to me by a pastor!!!!!! I was floored.  Jesus holds a MIGHTY Name.  Scripture tells us that at His Name EVERY knee will bow.  MIGHTY.  His Name moves mountains.  Unfortunately some of heard of the Name but have no relationship with the Person of Jesus.
