pickledilly
Whatever doctrine or teaching or belief system we accept, whether good or bad, affects the way we live because it is like a filter through which we form our concept of God and view everything about life. Good doctrine must be honored because it is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. The unadulterated, accurate teachings given to us through the writers of Scripture are the basis for sound doctrine. Well I have to admit this question has pushed one of my hot buttons. I recently heard a speaker explaining the mindset of modern Liberalism (capital "L"). This is not the same thing as liberal (little "l"). As a philosophy and a worldview, modern Liberalism has come to the point where nothing can be challenged as wrong or right. It is a doctrine that all war, poverty, crime, and injustice stems from any attempt of humanity to be moral, live right, and think rationally. The essence of rational thought is the ability to rightly discriminate, and this is thoroughly despised in this doctrine as bigotry. This ultimately leads to consistently siding with evil. And this Liberalism is supremely illiberal. The core goal is to tear down anything that promotes right and rational thought, standards of righteousness, distinction between good and bad or morality and depravity, discernment between success and failure or truth and lies, recognition of differences in one religion from another - they're all considered to be of equal weight and value. I share this as an important example of the perversion of good doctrine. This particular doctrine of modern Liberalism influences the way God's Word is interpreted and taught. It is the diametric opposite of God's truth, and today we hear it from preachers and TV pulpits that cannot/will not call anything "wrong", who no longer tolerate the cross of Christ, who want people to feel good rather than confront sin and be set right with God. We have to test what we hear against the Scriptures like the Berean Christians of Acts 17. We must rely on the Holy Spirit to discern what is of the Truth and what is of the father of lies. And we must be discriminating in what we believe. Any teaching or belief system that pulls us away from the truth of who Christ is and what He's done is BAD, false doctrine. The basis for our uncompromising doctrine must be Christ, and Christ alone. 1 Timothy 6:3-5 By the way, I'm no big thinker or philosopher…just a middle-aged homemaker grandmother. We all desperately need to educate ourselves about the world we live in and stay aware of how all things holy have been compromised. We must each personally accept our responsibility as stewards of God's Word to live it and accurately teach it. Otherwise we, too, will be duped by false doctrine and we will fall. jason
Q4. (Romans 6:17b) How does good doctrine affect the way we live? Why should we honor good doctrine? If we shouldn't look down on doctrine itself, what kind of teaching should we be avoiding? Well i think that this is really hard to answer but hey... If doctrine is the teaching of a belief then good doctrine is accurate, we need this to be good as people live by this also they pass things on to other people so things need to accurate so that people don't get the wrong message, if we get the wrong message people may act and think ungodly or do things that may effect theirs or others faith. We should honour good doctrine because of the fact that it envolves peoples lifes its the teaching from our Lord our God. However we need to be carefull of the demons in our world who are there to destroy us and do anything to waver our faith to get us to believe there lies, this is what we need to avoid. iam4-1god
Q4. (Romans 6:17b) How does good doctrine affect the way we live? Why should we honor good doctrine? If we shouldn't look down on doctrine itself, what kind of teaching should we be avoiding? The good doctrine is the instruction for our conduct. If we study the Word, know what it says, and believe that it is so, then we will strive to pattern our lives accordingly. Then, when we hear something that is contrary to what we have studied, we can recognize it for what it is, and correct it, or avoid it. It is so important to read and study for ourselves! To know the truth, this is imperative!

Delivered
Q4. (Romans 6:17b) You were slaves to sin. But I thank God that you have become wholeheartedly obedient to the teachings which you were given. How does good doctrine affect the way we live? Good doctrine is God's instruction to us, teaching us the importance of living holy lives. They will know us by our FRUIT. Why should we honor good doctrine? If we shouldn't look down on doctrine itself, what kind of teaching should we be avoiding? We should avoid doctrine that is not sound, for it will lead us away from God's truth. Any doctrine that allows us to be comfortable living in the old man, is not sound doctrine! It will not bring reproof, conviction for the soul, it will not bring correction that leads us into living lives pleasing unto God. Watch out for those who want to gratify the flesh and teach it is not necessary for us to bring the flesh into submission. The time will come when man will not want to follow sound doctrine, and I think that time is here.
hanks
Q4. (Romans 6:17b) How does good doctrine affect the way we live? Good doctrine is what the Bible teaches us today about a particular topic. The more we know about God, about his Word, about his relationships to the world and mankind, the better we will trust him, the more fully we will praise him, and the more readily we will obey him. Studying and applying doctrine will not only make us grow as Christians, but also make us into more mature Christians. Why should we honor good doctrine? We should honour good doctrine knowing that it has been given to us by God. We know that the Bible is the inspired word of God. If we shouldn't look down on doctrine itself, what kind of teaching should we be avoiding? We should avoid any doctrine that has been altered or watered down. It must not be twisted to suit the times we live in, or make it more politically correct. We, therefore, need the power of discernment to be able to know truth from lies, to be able to hear what our Lord is telling us.
JustJeff
When we apply good doctrine over the course to our lives we will take on the character and nature of Jesus Christ. We are commanded to walk as He did (1 John 2:6) and worthy of our vocation (Eph 4:1) which can only be accomplished if we follow His discipline as He left it to us. Wrong teaching, that is carnal interpretations and minipulations of scripture create religion. If it doesn't line up with the Word, as lead by the Holy Spirit, it needs to be avoided. Jen
Q4. (Romans 6:17b) How does good doctrine affect the way we live? Why should we honor good doctrine? If we shouldn't look down on doctrine itself, what kind of teaching should we be avoiding? Good doctrine teaches us how to behave as Christians. It teaches us how to conform to the image of Christ. We should desire it earnestly. If we honor sound doctrine we will lead lives worthy of the name of Christ and influence others by our behavior. It is very contrary to our own human nature. It is so important to keep our little noses in the Word and to pray. We should avoid any doctrine that is contrary to the Word. God Bless!! RickJW
Q4. (Romans 6:17b) How does good doctrine affect the way we live? Why should we honor good doctrine? If we shouldn't look down on doctrine itself, what kind of teaching should we be avoiding? Good doctrine, that is, teaching which truly adheres to the spirit and intention of the Word of God, should affect our lives in a positive way. We should find our selves inspired and filled with desire to do God's commandments to us. The defeatist doctrines mentioned in this part of the lesson will leave us discouraged and wondering why do we other. Thus, we should honor, and spread good doctrine, after all, the spreading of the Word is a big part of our responsibility to God. We should seek to do that which hallows, or honors and glorifies God's name. We should avoid doctrine that does not conform to God's intentions in what is written in the Bible. JanMary
Q4. (Romans 6:17b) How does good doctrine affect the way we live? Sound doctrine is our compass or moral plumbline for daily living. It's the book of instructions for living the life into which we've been born again. Why should we honor good doctrine? Because it's the Word of God...it is His Will for our lives, both for avoiding pitfalls and for growing in His holiness and character. It's His gift for renewing our minds from the old life of sin to our new life in Christ. If we shouldn't look down on doctrine itself, what kind of teaching should we be avoiding? False teaching, which distorts the Word of God. For example Gal. 1, speaks of a "different gospel to which the "foolish Galatians" were becoming enslaved. Soomee
I checked the dictionary meaning of "doctrine": A particular principle, position or policy taught or advocated as a religion could be the one I can apply here. I take the "Good Doctrine" as the one 100% based on the word of God (i.e. based on Christ's and appostles' teaching with the guidance of Holy Spirit). Since our life is governed by our belief system, then we need to be governed by such good doctrine. Therefore we need to be very careful in what goes in and establish our belief system. Satan is the cleverest person. God says that he is cleverer than Daniel. By the way God reckons Daniel is the cleverest person ever lived - spiritual matters. (Not Solomon). So Satan always wants us to misguide and lead us astray where ever he can. Easy way to trap Christians is to approach us via clever doctrines (bad ones) born in the mind of clever people. He can easily disguise them and bring them through those "false" (not easily visible as false ones) prophets (TV platforms). We really have to test everything that we receive these days. Beware Satan will come as an angel of light. My mentor always tells me that we need to have 4 tests: 1) Did Jesus do this? 2)Did Jesus teach this? 3)Did Appostles do this? 4) Did Appostles teach this? If any doctrine that fails in all the above tests then I do not want to tough those doctrines. One of them is the health and wealth doctrine (materialistic base). If we shouldn't look down on doctrine itself, what kind of teaching should we be avoiding? GOOD DOCTRINE IS WHEN WE WHOLD HEARTDLY OBEY THE FORM OF TEACHING TO WHICH YOU WERE TRUSTED. GOD WANTS TO FOLLW HIS TEACHING AND TO PRACTICE THEM IN OUR LIVES, ON A DAILY BASIS. THE WORD OF GOD SHOULD BE MEAT AND DRINK TO OUR BODY AND SOUL. WHATEVER WE READ OR HEAR ABOUT SCRIPTURES SHOULD BE BACK UP WITH BIBLICAL FACTS. WE SHOULD AVOID ANY TEACHING THAT DOES NOT FIT UP WITH THE WORD OF GOD, SO WHEN WE HEAR SOMETHING OR READ SOMETHING THAT SOMEONE ELES SAID WE SHOULD ASK THE HOLY-SPIRIT TO GUIDE US IN ALL TRUTH. God pours us (His children) into the mold of divine truth. we have compelling desire to obey God's word. this good doctrine freed us from sin, we became slaves to righteousness. We should honor the good doctrine, this doctrine or teaching is about our Lord Jesus. this teaching of Christianity is given to us. we must respond to it with obedience. Stan
Q4. (Romans 6:17b) How does good doctrine affect the way we live? Why should we honor good doctrine? If we shouldn't look down on doctrine itself, what kind of teaching should we be avoiding? It gives us a guide line for how to live our lives and to deal with the sin in our lives. How to reach out to God when we come up short and to seek Him and pray that He will lead us in helping others toknow Him and the love He alone can give them. We should honor it because it comes from God and is Holy and it is 16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works according to'2nd Timothy. We should avoid anything that is not Bible based if we can't find it in the Bible then its probably not true and should bediscarded.

We should honor good doctrine because there are great benefits. We should avoid teachings that are contrary to the word of God.The gospel message is the pattern. If we shouldn't look down on doctrine itself, what kind of teaching should we be avoiding? When you say good doctrine, I understand you to mean doctrine totaly baised upon the Biblical teaching of the Bible, The truth and nothing but the truth. When all truth is founded and teached according to the will of God. We should always avoid false teaching and teaching that is miss leading, In fact when we listen to false teaching we are giving satan the victory rather than God the Glory. June
We follow a pattern or a teaching of the way Christians should live. Live as the Bible teaches not as others may live. They may have interpreted it differently. We need to pass on what we know about sound doctrine without making any changes to it. Tell it like it is as it never changes Biblically. Be accurate and faithful to pass on the Word even when it is uncomfortable for non-Christians to hear as you will be planting a seed and later someone will water it and it will gradually grow. We should avoid the defeatist attitude. We do not have to sin. Again that is a matter of choice.
reily
Q4. (Romans 6:17b) How does good doctrine affect the way we live? Why should we honor good doctrine? If we shouldn't look down on doctrine itself, what kind of teaching should we be avoiding? It is clear that good teaching of doctrine enlightens and encourages the generated soul of Jesus Christ becuase it agrees with the spirit that lives within us. Therefore if the teaching gives us peace and joy lets not only agree but do. Meaning to follow through with action. I have found no peace in sin but only heartache but then I seem to be on a path to continue. When I read the doctrines and teachings of the Lord, it bring power and peace to my life. Now we truly do have a choice to sin or not BUT this difference is, the doctrine and the holy spirit gives us power to make the right choice. With doctrine you must have faith in God that he will help you to make the right choice. Today I have peace and Joy, the fruits of the spirit that I have chosen wisely or rather Godly. Avoiding teaching from sources that encourage the world the flesh and the devil. Meaning watch what goes into your mind through TV and Radio and Reading materials, as those too are doctrines. Any teaching that elevates the above will surley secure a place in your heart.

If we shouldn't look down on doctrine itself, what kind of teaching should we be avoiding? It should affect our way of live because, when we our sinners we were without hope and Christ dead on the cross gave us new life. The central them of the Gospel is that: 1. Christ died for our sins, 2. He was buried, 3. He was raised from the dead on the third day. Any teaching outside these three points we should avoid them, because they are not true Gospel. charisbarak
Good doctrine affects every aspect of our lives--our relationships. Good doctrine should be honored because it is God's message to us to show us how to live. Any teaching which cannot be backed up/proved by the Bible is false & should be avoided. I might add, teaching with a whole bunch of truth & just a little error is just as false & also should be avoided.
servant for Christ
Q4. (Romans 6:17b) How does good doctrine affect the way we live? Why should we honor good doctrine? If we shouldn't look down on doctrine itself, what kind of teaching should we be avoiding? Good doctrine affects tdhe way we live because it is the Word of God. The gospel that is based on truth and holiness, it is words of healing and salvation. It is a doctrine to be obeyed every day, from the heart. We should honor good doctrine because it is the gospel of Christ, it is to be believed. To be a Christian is to be transformed into the likeness of the gospel, our souls answering to it, complying with it, conformed to it, understanding it, our affections, will, aims, principles, actions, all according to the form of the doctrine. We need to reject any doctrine that does not agree with the Word of God.
