Before the law was given, He was known as God Most High, Creator, God Almighty, and such. His name I AM to Moses revealed His self-existent nature. But His Laws revealed His holiness and just-ness. However, the Law itself could not set humanity free from the law of sin and death. It reveals sin by contrasting God's holy nature with humanity's wicked nature, but it cannot remedy sin. On earth, the effective application of this Law was "weakened by the flesh", the rebellious nature of man that ushered in sin with its consequence of death. It makes me think of an X-ray that helps make a diagnosis, but has no ability to restore health. If an X-ray reveals a displaced broken bone, that break will never heal properly unless you accept the remedy of having it set and wearing a cast. The Law shows us our broken relationship with the LORD and is intended to cause us to look to Him for divine healing of our fractured hearts. Knowing about God's holiness doesn't save us. Only the righteous fulfillment of the law could rescue us - by someone qualified to take our place. And only the undefiled, "unbroken" Jesus Christ our Lord could accomplish that. Our problem here is that we deal with a constant inner conflict. Paul said it so well in Eph. 7:18-19, "For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing." The Spirit we now have within us creates a desire to agree with God's laws and do good (act according to moral purity). But the flesh that constrains us still desires to act according to our sinful selfish nature and is incapable of accomplishing the new spiritual desires. Jesus is the only deliverance from this war. It was given by God and is therefore perfect as an expression of His will for His people. It gives us the knowledge of sin. It allows us to discover the evil nature of sin, and its deceitful workings in us. What does it do poorly? It is because of our sinful nature that the law could not produce holy living. It is powerless to keep us from sinning. Why is the law (knowing right and wrong) powerless to save us? The law spoke to us when we were already sinners; without strength to obey. What we need is a Saviour to deliver us from the penalty and power of sin. What is the problem here? We always want our way. When we know something is wrong, we want it even more. turnerjb1 Posted October 19, 2008 Report Share Posted October 19, 2008 Knowing what is right or wrong doesn't work; look at the pharasees and sagasees in Jesus' time. They studied the law, knew it inside and out, and put their own interptations on the law. Note the term in the gospels "a sabith's day journey". This is the amount of distance a person can walk before they are actually doing work on the sabith. And how about people who enbezle from their work. They don't go in one day thinking "I'm going to steal from the company". No, they think, "I'll borrow this money and put it back before anybody notices". They borrow the money and nobody notices, so they borrow a little more, and take a little longer before they pay it back. Then they take a little and don't pay it back. This goes on and on until they have stollen thousands of dollars. The same happens with other sins. We will justify in our own minds it is ok until we look back at the path we've taken and realize how far we're off. Then we figure there's no going back. It creats in us a desie to serve sin as our sinful nature in us is powerless to to over come the sin. It reveals in us our sin ful nature and make it clear that we are sinner by nture and the flesh as accomplished by our first father Adam. Adam was powerless not to choose sin and he was not t take of the tree. It is alos powerless to save us a it has not power intself to change our hearts, minds or choices. It is a statued that presents the truth of God The problem is withouts Christ saving grace. we are powerless do any thing about the law It just is and does There is no power in the law just knowing and understanding it precepts. Knowing what is right & wrong cannot save us. We need what Jesus did for us on the cross--gave His life for us. I liken it to a mirror. We look in the mirror, see stray hairs & a dirty face. It does poorly in giving us away back to God when we do make a mistake and want forgiveness. It is powerless because it was not given to savebut to condemn to show man his frail weakness and need for a loving and forgiving Father. The problem here is our sinfulness our nature to want what is not in our best intrest and not seeking God's will for us before doing the things that causeus to fall away from Him. We are the opposite of the law by nature which is why we need to read the law even though it is written on our hearts. We seem to gloss over our sin. We cannot live and obey it on our own merits. Thats all sin can do it is powerless to keep us from sin anymore than man's laws can keep us from breaking them. We can only be saved by the blood of the Lamb, baptism and recepit of the Holy Spirit which convicts us of our sin, enabling us to have the strength to not do it. It is the way God clearly reveals where the plum line is to be demonstrating who is in charge of our life, our sin nature or HIS Holy Spirit. It is clear when children respond to the policeman as if he is to be scared of, because they view all authority as making life worse for them not better. So we often view God's Law. It is our perspective of fear to give up our ways, not appreciating the comfort and protection the law and its representatives provide. In the Life Recovery Bible Romans 8: 2-4 is explained: "Once we recognize how helpless we are to fight our dependencey, we must look outside ourself to Gof the the power we need. The life-giving Spirit that Paul mentioned here is the Holy Spirit. He was present at the creation of the world (Gen 1-2) and is available to help us as we seek to rebuild our life. We cannot overcome our addiction or compulsion alone, but God is more than able to help us. He sent his Son and destroyed the power of sin through his death and resurection. Now we can follow God's program for godly living through the power of the HOly Spirit with in us. " The Holy Spirit is what is missing to trust the truth revealed in the Law about our sin and embower us to overcome our addiction to the old sin nature that has lost its power over our thougths, our choices, our actions and our words, replacing it with the love of Christ. It is good and holy and just...pointing out God's standards of holiness, and identifying sin. What does it do poorly? It lacks the power to help us live a holy life. Why is the law (knowing right and wrong) powerless to save us? The law is like a book of instructions on how to assemble something which is lacking the essential "part". What is the problem here? The problem is that we're dead to God until He breathes life through the Holy Spirit into our spirit...that's the "part" that's missing (dead). Until that happens, we have no ability to live a holy life, and then only as we yield to the power of the Holy Spirit to live through us. The law could not pardon; the law could not sanctify; the law could not dispense with its own requisitions; it is the rule of righteousness, and therefore must condemn unrighteousness. This is its unalterable nature. Had there been perfect obedience to its dictates, instead of condemning, it would have applauded and rewarded; but as the flesh, the carnal and rebellious principle, had prevailed, and transgression had taken place, it was rendered weak, inefficient to undo this word of the flesh, and bring the sinner into a state of pardon and acceptance with God. The law could irritate our sinful nature into more virulent action, as we have seen in Ro 7:5, but it could not secure its own fulfilment. How that is accomplished comes now to be shown. in that it was weak through the flesh-that is, having to address itself to us through a corrupt nature, too strong to be influenced by mere commands and threatenings. The law educates us and the law is holy, the commandments is holy and righteous and good but the law seems to be held under a gun , tired up and highjacked by sin, when we know that something is wrong and we go a head and do it because when it is wrong it makes us to want to do it the more. Paul concludes that the problem is not in the law but in us so we are at fault we did not educate ourselves unto God way out of sinning through His Holy Spirit. Wha it does poorly is that it cannot keep us from sinning because of our sinful nature. The law is powerless to save us because it doesn't have the power and strength to do so. The problem here is man. We cannot defeat or forgive sin on our own. Jesus Christ had to go to calvary for that and He did. He made a way for us to come out of our sinful nature through His blood. It was not able to control sinful human heart. The sinful nature desires to do what the law does not tolerate. The law is powerless to save us because we cannot be washed clean by following say, 99% of the law. We are sinners in God's sight no matter how we follow the law. A perfect substitute or replacement for our sins is needed to cleanse our unrighteousness. It is only through the sin offering of the blood of Jesus, the Son of God who can take away our sins and make us totally clean in the sight of the Father in heaven. However the law does not take away the desire to have more or to have what we can not. It doesn't keep us from sinning. Only a life filled with Jesus can do that. We can not save ourselves. The law does not help us to overcome our apparent desire to do bad things. The knowledge of what is right and what is wrong in God's eyes does not empower us to do good or to live a righteous life of our own volition. While the law defines for us good and bad, we still revert to our tendency to succumb to sinful passions. As long as we are 'first Adams' we cannot rise above this sinful nature, we must be reborn in Christ Jesus so that our sinful nature is put to death on the cross with Christ, and our new self rises from Christ's grave. The law is like a mirror, we look at our selves in a mirror and see a dirty face but the mirror has no power to cleanse our face and so it is with the law, we see our sin revealed to us but the law hasn't any power to change us. Through the law I see I have sinned but I am still powerless to change. The problem is now that I know certain behaviors and thoughts are sin, what can I do? The law does well by showing to us God's righteousness, for blessed is the man who delights in the law of the Lord. What does it do poorly? Why is the law (knowing right and wrong) powerless to save us? What is the problem here? I am not sure if I understand the question? But, the law in itself does not save, the Torah comes from a root word meaning "to teach" - it is a light before our path, revealing to us the righteousness of God and the purpose of all things. Salvation is a gift from God, totally apart from the law. The purpose of our Redeemer is that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, expressed in our good works of love. The law is perfect, quieting the soul, the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple, it is more to be desired than gold, it is sweeter than honey, and there is a great reward for those who desire to keep them. WHAT THE LAW DOES POORLY IS THAT THE LAW SEEMS TO BE HIJACKED BY SIN ACCORDING TO REV RALPH, WHICH IS SO TRUE.KNOWING THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG, HUMANS STILL DESIRE TO WANT TO DO IT ANYWAY. WE WANT WHAT WE CANNOT HAVE. THE LAW KNOWING RIGHT AND WRONG IS POWERLESS TO SAVE US, BECAUSE THE LAW IS NOT THE PROBLEM IT IS US AND OUR SINFUL DESIRE. IN ESSENCE WE ARE THE PROBLEM. The law does not justify us, nor does it provide salvation. It barely kept us even somewhat clean with the blood of animals. It only covered our defilement which was our sin against the law. Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: Why is the law (knowing right and wrong) powerless to save us? For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God. What is the problem here?
