Q1. False Doctrine

Recommended Posts

Results of false teaching in the church at Ephesus caused controversies by overdoing the law, by offering their own opinions and not revealing God message they did not Stress the importance of Christ death and resurrection.

They devoted to much of their time to finding out where they came from and following man made laws.

This controversies hurt the church by distorting the truth, leading the church down the wrong path in turn destroying the unity of the church

I hesitate to reply as many others have mentioned the points I would have brought up . I beleive in our times there is so much false doctirne and teachers that un-beleivers shy away from getting involved. They feel if we can't agree what is in it for them. I know for many years I avoided going to church even though I was saved because of hypocrisy.

Q1. (1 Timothy 1:3-7) What were some of the results of false doctrine in the church at Ephesus? How does doctrinal controversy hurt the spirit of a church? How does it prevent growth? How does it keep the church from its mission?

There are many consequences of false doctrine being taught in the Church. From divisive arguments to a loss of salvation (potential), false doctrine creates an atmosphere that is not founded on God's Word. When this happens, the spirit of a church is weakened and ultimately dies because it is not being fed God's food. The division caused keeps people from working together so that growth is hindered. The mission of the church is to point people to Jesus. If the congregation is not teaching this, people will not be pointed to Jesus.

1.This promoted contraveries rather than the work of God.

2.This causes people to wonder away from the main focus which is God's word, then people are consumed in the wrong thing, hence

there is no growth.

3. The church then focuses on sorting out the wrong issues, meaningless talk then takes over affecting the growth of the people of God.

A. Division and arguments, people spending time trying to decide who is right rather than focusing on the love and grace of Jesus Christ.

B. It pits one against the other and soon we forget we are fighting the same fight.

C. A church cannot grow with controversy and arguments, there is sometimes a superficial growth but it will not last.

D. When we get caught up in secondary issues we lose focus. We cannot even get along with our Christian brothers and sisters, it certainly will not enable us to reach out to the lost.

With all that said, I love to find out the details of the bible, "why the robe was purple" etc. However, that is just a research project and can help understand why things were done a certain way at the time. The purpose always should be to better understand God's character, to improve our own and to change the areas of our lives that are suffering from sin. God is a God of detail, and He gives us plenty of them in His Word, but when we would rather argue the details then enjoy the freedom of His loving grace we have missed the point.

Some of the results of false doctrine in the church at Ephesus were that they promoted controversy rather than God

Some of the results of false doctrine in the church of Ephesus were controversies within the church, devotion to myth, meaningless talk.

Doctrinal controversy hurts the spirit of a church by causing division among the members.replacing the clear teaching of the gospel with alot of fluff and nonsense.

False doctrine prevents growth by causing members to concentrate on trivial issues rather than sharing the gospel.

False doctrine keeps the church from its mission by causing members to quarrel over doctrinal issues rather than concetrate on witnessing to unbelievers.

It sidetracked them from true faith. They became so involved in discussing the minor things that they lost sight of what the Spirit was actually saying. It led to arguments amongst themselves where they should have been united. It also led others into error. When we focus on a specific aspect of faith to the exclusion of the the whole message we become unbalanced and more concerned about upholding our 'belief' than sharing the good news of the gospel. We are more concerned with enforcing our ideas than sharing Gods message which just leads to quarrels. Unfortunately others get drawn into the arguments and it can even 'put people off' christianity.

What were some of the results of false doctrine in the church at Ephesus?

Controversy and strife were some of the results.

How does doctrinal controversy hurt the spirit of a church?

Controversies result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions, etc.(1 Tim.6:4) These are all spiritual weapons of warfare/fruit of the enemy who has come to kill, steal and to destroy our faith. But Jesus, who is the Prince of PEACE, came that we might have life and have it more abundantly (by faith). There is the fruit of the Spirit which is love, joy, PEACE, faith, gentleness, meekness, goodness, longsuffering, self-control (Gal.5:22-23a). These fruit are completely different from the fruit of the enemy. Any time anyone goes against sound doctrine he is certain to hurt the spirit of a church.

How does it prevent growth?

It sends a message to non-believers that the church is no better place to be than the world.

How does it keep the church from it's mission?

The mission of the church is to seek the lost. I believe that selfishness is the root of sin and selfish people will not go after lost people to tell them about the power of the resurrection of Jesus. Selfish people are too obsessed with having time to themselves which in itself is controversial.

-Keep God FIRST

False doctrine in the church at Ephesus resulted in producing twisted, distorted Christians who exhibited pride, hypocrisy, and questionable ethics. Doctrinal controversy hurts the spirit of the church by creating strife instead of love from a pure heart, good conscience, and sincere faith. It prevents growth and keeps the church from its mission because the focus is on the negative instead of on God's work.

Q1. (1 Timothy 1:3-7)

What were some of the results of false doctrine in the church at Ephesus? There are several ways that false teaching or false doctrine affected the church of Ephesus. One of the major ways is by confusion. When you have a group of people teaching one way and another group teaching another it has a tendency to confuse the church. What do we believe, before too long nobody is believable? This is how we wind up with the destruction of faith.

How does doctrinal controversy hurt the spirit of a church? As pointed out in the lesson the controversy in the Church causes strife, arguments, and quarrels. I don

It was leadership crisis among the elders some of them was false teachers, the desire for wealth or greed, a divise asceticism from the Judiazers and the destruction of faith for people in Ephesus, confusion and controversy of the people in church from coming together in unity. It causes problems and arguements among people at church, it is called useless speculations cause instead of focusing on God and the Word of God and spreading joy and unity, these people will go out of their way to make others look bad. It prevents growth spirtually for the simple fact that it is a hindrance and doesnt edify the person that is involved and involving other peoples as well. IT keeps the church from it mission cause it produces distorted and immature christians instead of maturity and the growth within the church and others as well.

False doctrines in the church in Ephesus were issues of the heart, just as it is in present churches. The men that were positioned as good teachers in the beginning, loose their ways with time, as they are given status and powers over decisions and others in the congregation, as well as in society.

Under these influences, faith is replaced by greed. Discordance results among people, leading to divisions within the Church. Unavoidably, the spirit of the Church is affected when the work of God is not manifested anymore. The interpretation of the Gospel is changed to suit the personal agenda in pursuit of benefits.

As a result, people leave the Church, whose mission once clear, becomes the vision of a few in power. The congregation seeks a purer teaching in other places where love, conscience, and faith are its foundation, after loosing hope that false teachers will acknowledge and will repent from their soul-driven nature. Where Satan dwells, the fruit perishes. :(

Q1. (1 Timothy 1:3-7) What were some of the results of false doctrine in the church at Ephesus? How does doctrinal controversy hurt the spirit of a church? How does it prevent growth? How does it keep the church from its mission?

Some of the results of false doctrine in Ephesus is that some believers began to wander away from the truth. They began to embrace these false doctrines. I believe that some of these false doctrines that were being introduced into the church at Ephesus denied the resurrection of Jesus Christ, denied the need to live godly and moral lives. I beleive they were corrupt doctrines that deceived many people the same way we are starting to see major ministries collapse because of doctrines that are being introduced into the church.

In verse 4 Paul said that these doctrines that infiltrated into the church stirred up a lot of controversy. What happened is the believers in the time of Paul and Timothy began to take their eyes off of what is important and that was preaching the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. Some of the believers began to argue amongst themselves. Many times I have heard people say that they reason why they do not ever want to go to church is because their is a lack of unity. Controversy in the church hurts the church because it causes division. When we have one person who believes one way and another person believes another way, we create division. Division is what causes churches to split. Division is what keeps the church from moving forward and fulfilling the Great Commission.

Even today the church is failing to do complete its mission because we are to involved in arguing over what is the right thing to believe. We need to get back to believing and doing what the bible says.

I don't necessarily think the issues were all matter of the heart. I mean even today we come up with some stupid things to argue about in church. Some churches argue about what color I do agree that when men get into places of authority that it goes to their head and they start to argue over how things are to be done. We have too many people in the church today that are allowed to voice their opinion. I have already heard about many well-known ministers stumbling over their acceptance of traditional doctrine.

False teaching brings problems into the church by causing tension between the leadership. it brings in pride and the want of wealth, it destroys the faith of some and causes controversies and confusion

What do you think happens if the leadership is the one causing the controversy? What if it was tha pastor of the church that was causing the confusion?

Q1. (1 Timothy 1:3-7) What were some of the results of false doctrine in the church at Ephesus? How does doctrinal controversy hurt the spirit of a church? How does it prevent growth? How does it keep the church from its mission?

"As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.

Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling; Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm".

The teaching of false doctrine in the church resulted in whoremongering, defilement, lying and the likes. This divided the church. Whilst some were of the position that they were under the law others said they were not. such a division prevented growth because as the bible said, a kingdom against itself shall not stand. A church in this condition will fail in its mission simply because it becomes difficult for the people to be committed to a cause that

they do not believe in. This is the problem of buy in.

THE TRUE WORD OF GOD NOT BEING TAUGHT.THE FALSE DOCTRINE HAD MADE SOME PEOPLE TURN ASIDE INTO WRONG FAITH.

THE FALSE TEACHERS WERE MOTIVATED BY THEIR OWN INTREST RATHER THAN GODS.

THEY WERE QUARELLS AND CONFUSION

FALSE TEACHING WILL CAUSE THE CHURCH TO SPLIT--CAUSING DIVISON AMONG MEMBERS.

AN ATTACK ON THE CHURCH BY THE ENEMY WHICH IS SATAN.

Results of false doctrine: promote controversies, wander away from love, a pure heart, good conscience, and sincere faith; do not know the law, do not know what they are talking about or what they confidently affirm.

Prevents growth: results in meaningless talk and concentrating on the wrong things

Keeps the church from its mission: the mission of the church is love. False doctrine concentrates on myths and genealogies. This is the wrong focus and provokes needless arguiments.

They had turned aside to fruitless discussion, they wanted to be teachers of the law. They were teaching myths and genealogies. The law can kill the love the people have for christ and other belivers. It can cause strife and contention in the body of belivers. So it strangles the group preventing growth and the church cannot full fill its mission to love the sinners into Christ. They have turned from their first love, living under the law instead of grace.
