Christ was able to fulfill both these roles. As Mediator He represented us before His Father, acting on our behalf. As Ransom, He paid the price for our sins through His death on the cross. The church is Ephesus were concentrating on converting the Jewish people, Jewish faith was based on the law. In contrast Jesus is our mediator and our ransom, He is continually interceding for us before the throne of God and he gave His life as a ransom to pay our debt so that we could come back into relationship with Father God. His sacrifice did not just save those who were trying but failing to live by the law. His salvation is available to ALL men regardless of colour or creed. He stands between God the father and us and His death on the cross has fully paid for any and every sin committed by mankind. We just have to accept what He has done for us. The role of the Mediator is a mediator between two parties to remove a disagreement or to be able to reach a common goal, Jesus was the Mediator for us before the Father and the common goal was to preach salvation to all the people and spread the evangelism. In the ransom was when Jesus died on the cross at calvary to save humanity by providing the way to the Father. We had to have a mediator and a ransom to be grafted into the family of God. Jesus is our link to God and he paid the price for our sins to be forgiven. I want to say that Paul's emphasis on the role of a mediator and ransom is the core of the message of Christ. He want to make clear the salvation is a gift and that the price has already been paid. There is therefore 'no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus' he said. In the past, God was washing away the since of His children through the payment of a ransom (sheep) with the high priest serving as a mediator. When Christ made the statement 'it is finished' on the cross that faithful day, He became the ransom for our sins. The scriptures below attest to Christ being a ransom for sinners. In what way did Christ fulfill both these roles? A mediator is someone who gets involved between two parties in an arguement and helps them find a solution. That is the role that Jesus played. The bible says that Jesus is the mediator of the new covenant. He is the mediator between God and man. Jesus is the mediator of all mankind. What Jesus did for us, He did not just for one or two people, but for all of mankind. Romans 5:10 says that we were enemies of God and that we have been reconciled through His death. They way that Jesus mediated for us through His death. Ransom is a payment paid from one person to another to reconcile them or release them from their captivity. In the sense in which Paul was talking about a ransom was actually the work of substitution. Sometimes we have seen in movies where one person who is the hero offers themself to the villain to release someone from captivity. In the movie the hero is who the villain is trying to capture, kill or incapacitate. We all know that the person who is in captivity is not willing to allow the hero to take their place and all that jazz. That is the role that Jesus played as our ransom. The penalty of sin was over us and we would have had to stand before God and face judgment and an eternity in hell if Jesus never offered Himself. What Jesus did for us on the cross is He took our place and died our death so that we would not have to face the penalty and judgment of sin. What took place on the cross was a supernatural exchange. Jesus took our sin and judgment and gave us eternal life. He took our separation from God and gave us sonship. He took our sickness and disease and gave us good health. God had sent his son to die on the cross so all people might be saved. He wanted them to remember in who they had at one time trusted and to remember that Jesus was their savior, mediator and he paid the ransom for them. The ransom paid had to be fully man (representing us) and fully God (who knew no sin)His substitutionary death satisfied God's righteousness and fulfilled his love towards us. wanting Posted March 15, 2010 Report Share Posted March 15, 2010 I think this goes back to Gen. 15:6-10, 17-18. God made a Blood covenant with Abraham. Usually each person is responsible to hold up his side of the agreement, but God being a loving and merciful God promised to hold up both sides of the agreememt, and for whatever reason one was unfaithful He would pay the price with His Blood. That was the death sentence of Jesus Christ. So Christ came into the world born in a 'laming cave' in Bethlehem, where sacrifical lambs were raised for the temple. It all ties into Gods beautiful truth. Once Christ was crucified keeping God's promise He became our High Priest, our Mediator. What a wonderful Son! I thank God every day for his love for me, I thank Jesus for loving His Father so much that He would die, to do His Fathers Will. When Adam and Eve sinned in the garden we were separated from God. God initially used the sacrificial blood of animals to reconcile man to himself, but then fulfilled the law through Christ by reconciling us through a human sacrifice, through one that was blameless and without sin, Jesus Christ. Since God is too holy to be with sinful men he uses Jesus Christ, one who is fully God (holy-without sin) and fully Man (human) to stand in the gap for mankind. As a Mediator, God looks at us as if he were seeing Jesus, he sees us holy because of Jesus' death on the cross and resurrection--Jesus has reconciled us to God through his death on the cross, He became the sacrificial Lamb. Jesus' death is a ransom for us because he gave up his life for our sins, he was without sin yet sacrificied his pure body and life so that we may be right with God. He paid an ultimate price for our sins. He did not deserve to die, but rather mankind deserves death. His death paid for our reconciliation with God, we no longer need to be separated from God. Hallelujah!! We can have an eternal relationship with our Heavenly Father, through Jesus' death if <u>anyone</u> believes Jesus died on the cross for his or her sins. A beautiful gift for mankind! We have to understand that we cant be the mediator and that we cant do or pay anything from ourselves to set us free, only Crist could do it. In what way did Christ fulfill both these roles? He was our Mediator to God the Father, He was the only One who could do it. And He was the only One Who could be ransom because He was pure.
