Q1. (1 Timothy 5:1-16) What responsibilities do we have to help aging family members? According to Paul, in what way is this our Christian responsibility? In what way is this a "repayment" of a debt? To what does Paul compare to those who refuse this responsibility?

It is our responcibilty to help our own family. The bible says we are to help them or we are worse than non believers.

They brought us up and cared for us so now we must repay in kind. As children of God and part of his family we have that responcibility to care for them. God supplies our needs so should we help them.

The responsibilities we have to help aging family members are to treat them with respect and to care for their needs.

This is our Christian responsibilty because God commands that we show care and compassion to older family members.

This is in a way a "repayment" of a debt in that just as our parents and grandparents cared for us when we were young, we now have the chance to return the favor, caring for them in their old age.

Paul compares those who refuse this responsibilty to someone who has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

We have the responsibility to help aged family members financially. It is our responsibility so the church is not over burdened. It is a way to pay respect to older members. Since they laid down there lives to support us in raising children we should return the favor when they are in need. People who ignore this are worse than unbelievers. There are many unbelievers who do this out of gratitude.

We are responsible to help aging family members by caring for them as they cared for us. They may be in need of a home, food, or money, or they may need only our time and companionship. It is a Christian responsibility because it ties into the 5th commandment to honor our father and mother. Those who refuse this responsibility are compared to non-christians.

Our responsibility is by taking care of their physical needs. Those who need financial support must be catered for. Those who can longer do chores must be support by the youth to carry out those chores. I will say that anything that they were able to do but now because of old age are unable to do must be done for them by someone. It is actually a repayment of debt because it goes back to what the scripture says 'give and it shall be given unto you...' They gave it when they were young and now it is the responsibilities of those who received to give back.

We have the responsibility to help aging family members. We are to honor widows who are really widows, It is our religious duty to take care of our own family and repay our parents. Whoever does not provide for family members has denied the faith. The church should not have to assist widows who have families to take care of them. Taking care of parents is a repayment of a debt because they took care of us when we were young and could not take care of ourselves. Those who refuse to take care of family memebrs have denied the faith and are worse than unbelievers.

We should put our religion into practice by helping our elderly relatives. We are repaying our elders for all they've done for us by helping them later in their lives. Paul says someone who does do this has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

We have a obligation to take care of our parents and grandparents to repay them for all the years that they cared for us. Paul is telling us that if we don't take care of them as they are older we are worse then a unbeliever. It should be counted as a blessing to take care of your parents in their latter years.

1 Timothy 5:1-16

* What responsibilities do we have to help aging family members?

Our responsibility is to be a perfect example of our faith towards our family members; it pleases God that we teach to our next generation(s) by doing what we believe, as well as being there for our elders.

* According to Paul, in what way is this our Christian responsibility?

Christianity gives independence from the government rules, which may or not allow for such help and support. It gives mental and physical health to the elderly to have generations following their faith in doing as they have been taught.

* In what way is this a "repayment" of a debt?

This responsibility allows for a perfect harmony of support and of family relationship among members; it is a blessing of gifts given, taken, and returned over the years to those who have cared for us in our time of need.

* To what does Paul compare to those who refuse this responsibility?

Those who refuse this responsibility are compared to "worse than an unbeliever", as well as denying his faith.

* What responsibilities do we have to help aging family members?

Exodus 20:12 says we have to honour our parents.

This means that we have to take care for them.

Besides this, Jesus told us to take care for EVERYONE in his story about the good Samaritan.

* According to Paul, in what way is this our Christian responsibility?

In my country, there are special shelters for old people.

In Rumania, many old people are left to themselves.

We have to take care for them.

* In what way is this a "repayment" of a debt?

When I was a baby, my parents took care for me.

When they are old, I have to take care for them.

* To what does Paul compare to those who refuse this responsibility?

They are "worse than an unbeliever".

Matthew 25.

When I come to Him, I do not want Him to ask me: "Why did you give Me no food?"

Our responsibility to the aged family member is to render any assistance needed. According to Paul this is our Christian duty because in doing so we obey the commandment to honor our parents and it pleases God when we do so. Honoring our parents and grandparents by taking care of them as they age shows gratitude for all they have done in bringing us up. Those who refuse this responsibility is considered worse than an unbeliever.

It is our responsibility to help our aging family members in any way that is needed. We are to honor them as the Bible tells us to do. Our parents and grandparents have sacrificed for us and to care for them when they get older is our way of giving thamks for all they have done for us. Those who refuse this responsibility are worse than an unbeliever.

We are supposed to be like Christ, who wouldn't deny help to anyone, much less a parent. So, regardless of whether we consider it debt repayment or the 4th commandment, if we are trying to follow Christ, we will help our aging parents.

We are to gladly support our aged family members. . . This is something we would do even as an unbeliever - so as a believer it should be something that we willingly and cheerfully do. . .

This is (caring for aging family members) is a form of honoring them and in a sense repaying them for what they have done for us - and is well pleasing in God's sight. . .

Believers that refuse to aide or support aged family members are not only compared to unbelievers - but are considered to be worst than an unbeliever. . .

-As a believers we got the responsibilities to provide for the aging family members.

- "But if a widow has children or grandchildren, these should learn

first of all to put their religion into practice226 by caring for

their own family and so repaying their parents and grandparents,

for this is pleasing to God." (5:4)

-"If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for

his immediate family, he has denied227 the faith and is worse than

an unbeliever." (5:8)

We are to show respect for the aging family members. We, as Christians, are to do this in repayment for all the love and support we got from them when we were young. Just think of all the times your parents and grandparents stayed up late at night with you when you were sick, when you had a test or something that you just needed to talk to them about.

Those who refuse to do this are as unbelievers.

We are putting our religious beliefs in practice when we help out aging family members, they have helped us in the past, now it is our chance to repay our debts by showing them the love of Christ by helping them. Paul said that if we do not do this we do not share the faith and that we might as well be unbelievers.

The responsibilities we have to help aging family members are:

-to treat them with respect and to honour them.

-to help them and care for them

-to give them support and encoouragement

This is our christian responsibility since we are to care for our parents and grandparents(even elders). It is God's way of "repaying" or "requitting" what they did for us.

This is a "repayment of a debt" since when we were younger our parents took care of us, then its our turn to do likewise.

Paul compares those who refuse this responsibility to an infidel or someone worse than an unbeliever.

Paul reminds Timothy that we have an obligation to care for our elders according to their needs. We should be happy to care for them as they had earlier cared for us when we were younger, and likely sacrificed many things to provide for us. Those who refuse to care for such as these is compared to "unbelievers."

Our responsibility to aging family members is to help them as a way to return the care given to us as children. Most importantly, it is a tremendous way to show love and thanks to our parents and grandparents and others who have no relatives to care for them. It is Christain ministry beginning in the home. An essential part of the Christian way is ministering to other spiritually and physically in need. Beginning in home.

According to Paul, it is sinful and pagan not to take care of your family.
