Q4. Defeating Greed

Recommended Posts

Q4. (1 Timothy 6:17-19) What kinds of actions are the best antidote for the love of money? How can we cultivate generosity so that it remains healthy, rather than let it go overboard and hurt our families?

Do good,be generous, and lay up treasures in heaven with your wealth. All of this should be done out of love instead of anticipation of reward. Do as much as you can. Sometimes I give even when I am in need by promptings of the Holy Spirit.

I think being willing to share with others financially and in all things is what Christ would want from us. I think if we remain focused on Christ and the needs in our family and friends lives we should be able to cultivate generosity so that it remains healthy.

Some of the actions that are the best antidote for the love of money are to give some of it to a situation that needs money. First you must support your church then be generous in other activities.

The way that we can cultivate generosity so that it remains healthy is to make sure that your family has what it needs, not what it wants, then find out what God has put on your heart to support.

The best antidote for the love of money is to plant seeds, to bless other individuals and to support the church.

We can cultivate generosity so that it remains healthy, rather than let it go overboard and hurt our families by:

-Hope in God

-Do good

-Be rich in good deeds

-Be generous.

-Be willing to share

What kinds of actions are the best antidote for the love of money?

Love God. Seek 1st the Kingdom of God. BeGod focused. Be obedient to God. Then you will be generous anyway, then you will not love your material things anyway, then you will be happy anyway.

How can we cultivate generosity so that it remains healthy, rather than let it go overboard and hurt our families?

Be obedient to God. Trust in God. Have faith in God. Action. Too many people teach we must proclaim it to receive it. most of proverbs teaches us, work for it. When you earned it, share it. But share it accourding to obedience to God. God will tell you clearly when to give or, when not to give. The Biblical guieline is 10%. But sometimes God will ask more. Just be obedient

Q4. (1 Timothy 6:17-19) What kinds of actions are the best antidote for the love of money? How can we cultivate generosity so that it remains healthy, rather than let it go overboard and hurt our families?

I think the first part of this question can be answered by the instructions Paul gave the Thessalonians in 1 Thess. 4:11-12: "Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody."

I think the second part of this question can be answered by the the instructions John gave to the church in 1 John 3:16-18: "This is how we know Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.

As believers we provide aide to those in need as is required and as the Holy Spirit leads. When we follow the lead of the Holy spirit we will not go overboard in the flesh.

We must FLEE from covetousness. As members of the royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9) it our high calling to pursue righteous living, Godliness, faith, love, patience and meekness. We are to have the mind of Christ as we conduct ourselves in our daily lives.  It is God's will that we don't get into an abnormal covetousness frame of mind.  We cannot serve two masters as true Christains.   We have to cultivate WATCHFULLNESS, we are Tabernacle of the Holy Spirit; we are not like other people; we are inner court Christians.

Within sound reason, we give of our monies to assist the widows and those in need.  God wants us to use sound judgement. To ruin our health, is useless.  We are not our own; we belong to the Lord.

What kinds of actions are the best antidote for the love of money? How can we cultivate generosity so that it remains healthy, rather than let it go overboard and hurt our families?

I'm not sure how to answer this question. I went overboard. I'm not sure my family is hurting because of my actions, but it is surely "less secure," in the earthly realm. The Catholic church viewed taking a vow of poverty as a sign of faith's seriousness; only God (and His church) would be expected to provide. Perhaps this is the best way of looking at money, as if it's not ours, but His, and if it happens to be passing through our accounts, then the money should be viewed as temporarily in our custody. The idea that we should leave money to heirs is not biblical.

But the question is how to be generous without hurting our families? My answer is simple, though extreme: there is no intermediate level of generosity that guarantees security on earth as well as kudos from heaven.

Give it away.

Trust God to provide.

One way to cultivate acts of generosity first and foremost, is by tithing and support the agency God has chosen to reach the world. Just like we pay gym memberships where we exercise, restaurants where we eat; we support the congregation ministering to us. A committed, and common practice of tithing makes giving simply part of your life. Consequently, when a believer acts in accordance with God's will, as described in verses 17–18, he or she is investing in heavenly rewards. Treasures in heaven are considered far more valuable than wealth in this life.

Q4. (1 Timothy 6:17-19)

What kinds of actions are the best antidote for the love of money?

Don't relied on your money, reject the very great temptations of loving money and don't trust your income and savings.

How can we cultivate generosity so that it remains healthy, rather than let it go overboard and hurt our families?

Learn them to help others pertaining to giving or sharing what is one's own (with our possessions from GOD).

We must remind ourselves that life on earth is temporal. No one knows how long he is going to live as Jesus told the parable of the rich fool.
We cannot take anything with us when we leave this earth.

Money cannot buy eternal life and our treasure should be in heaven .

Give for there is more joy in giving than receiving.

Be generous for whoever gives to the poor lends to the Lord and He will pay back what  he has give .

Q4.The best antidote to the love of money is to realise just how much you have got by comparison with many others. Then ask God to lead you and guide you to share some of our money with someone or some organisation that needs help. This must be done because we love Jesus and all He suffered for us. If it is done for any other reason it is selfishness and not something that the Lord wants to see in us. We may not have a lot of money to give away, but we have other gifts we can use to do good deeds. We can make an effort to visit an older person who cannot get out anymore. We can apply active listening when a friend is sharing a problem with us. We can help a young mum with babysitting or sitting with someone to allow their carer go out for a couple of hours. There are many good deeds we can do which will bring glory to God, as long as we are doing it with the right motivation, because we love Our Saviour. These good deeds will not cost us any thing except our time. They also will prevent any financial pressure becoming a burden to the family from giving away too much financially.

Actions that are the best antidotes for the love of money are faith and trust in God When we truly trust God to supply all our needs according to His riches in glory we will not feel the need to acquire abundant riches on our own but know that He will supply all our needs and some of our wants.

We can cultivate generosity so that it remains healthy rather than let it go overboard and hurt our families by learning to control our wealth rather than it controlling us, realizing when we have more than enough for our own use and being willing to share with us without being asked to do so,  and understanding that what we have it to be used for support, refreshment, and pleasure and not to be abused.

Q4. (1 Timothy 6:17-19) What kinds of actions are the best antidote for the love of money? How can we cultivate generosity so that it remains healthy, rather than let it go overboard and hurt our families?

A4.

The best antidote for the love of money is to use our income to serve God and others in need. This can be done by paying our tithes, giving for the financial needs of the projects in the church. Furthermore, help those in need among us.

In doing the above, we need to apply wisdom and the leadership of the Holy Spirit to guide us in what we should do, the extend we should do it and to who we should do it to.

The best antidote is to put your trust in God and not in the money that you have because you do not know what tomorrow holds. We are on earth to be the eyes and ears of God and therefore we must always be a blessing to those that are in need and if you do not have any around you, listen to what others say about those that are in dire need and lend a helping hand. Be obedient to the Holy Spirit because He will prompt you in doing good to those who need help.

There are churches and organizations where your donations can be appreciated in helping those that are in need but we know of false teachers who have made people to give of their houses and cars which in my thinking have made this go overboard and hurt families. God cannot make families to break so that others can benefit. God is love and just hence He loves a cheerful giver.

Q4. (1 Timothy 6:17-19) What kinds of actions are the best antidote for the love of money? How can we cultivate generosity so that it remains healthy, rather than let it go overboard and hurt our families?

For us not to be prideful and put our hope in money but on God instead. Rather than being rich monetarily, be rich in good works. Being generous and willing to share.

In our family we have taken an attitude similar to the farmers in Israel who were told to leave the edges of their fields unharvested. So the poor and needy could harvest, (gleen) crops/food from their fields. We have set up our budget so that we would have a margin to share when that a need arose. That has worked very well over the years.

Q4. (1 Timothy 6:17-19) What kinds of actions are the best antidote for the love of money?

ANSWER: The kinds of actions that are the best antidote for the love of money is those who are rich in this present age, who have more than is needed, should “be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share”(1Timothy 6:17, 18). We are to put our hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. We cannot trust in riches, or in our ability to provide them. We are to put our hope in God who provides everything that we have. This is key; God provides everything that we have; it was never ours to begin with. The best remedy for greed is generosity.

How can we cultivate  generosity so that it remains healthy, rather than let it go overboard and hurt our families?

ANSWER: Generosity is not a single act. We need to make generosity a life practice to experience its benefits. Also one must cultivate gratitude. Cultivate your positivity through the practice of intentionally appreciating all that is good in your life every day. Your gratitude will help to inspire your generosity. We practice generosity because of the inherent happiness it brings, not to make ourselves special. We are already abundantly special through the simple fact of our existence. Generosity begets joy. Make generosity one of your daily, intentional love practices. You and everyone around you will benefit.

We are to assist others in their need.  To be a cheerful giver is important for the Christian.  We live according to 1 Corinthians chapter 13.   Our focus is on Christ the Author and Finisher of our Faith. That's how we fulfill our apostolic call; we serve others with a generous spirit.  We fight the good fight of faith; we don't get involved with worldly and empty chatter, endless spurious Gnostic genealogies, and opposing arguments.  Apostle Paul is teaching that we must have the Mind of Christ.  The HOLY Spirit will teach us all things as we study the Bible, and pray each day.

Fixing their hopes on God is central, not fixing hopes on the uncertainty of riches. Being conceited or proud is foreign for the Bible believer.  This will all guide us to dispense of our riches in a sane fashion.  We fulfill the Sermon on the Mount as we live a rational and well balanced Christian life.

Q4. (1 Timothy 6:17-19) What kind of actions are the best antidote for the love of money?

Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. ( 1 Timothy 6:17).

WE can cultivate generosity by:

1. Hope in God.

2. Do good

3. Be rich in good deeds.

4. Be generous.

5. Be willing to share with love and not expecting anything in return.

The kinds of actions that I find as the best antidote for the love of money is to give it away. Sometimes that is a hard thing to do but it is still rewarding. If we have a simple home, don’t have expensive things then we can cultivate a generosity that remains healthy.

Q4. (1 TIMOTHY 6:17-19)
What kinds of actions are the best antidote for the love of money? How can we cultivate generosity so that it remains healthy, rather than let it go overboard and hurt our families?
I think we should be aware of the dangers of the love of money. Instead of trusting our riches we should rather put our trust in our Lord and Saviour. Money has a way of sprouting wings and flying away. Great resources give the appearance of providing security; the fact is that the only sure thing in this world is the word of God. Many of us are experiencing this truth in our present economic crisis. To cultivate generosity so that it remains healthy, we are to be generous and ready to share. We can be rich in good deeds which will not harm our families financially. This will act as evidence of our overflowing gratitude to God for His gift of eternal life. We can be generous in giving our time and labour to help others. Not only by our words, but also by our lives, we should show that we are children of God. John Wesley has been said to say: “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” Never forgetting that it is not our money, but God’s – we are to look after it as His stewards.
