Craig
Q1. (2 Timothy 3:16) What does inspiration of Scripture mean? What does the term "God-breathed" tell us about the source and authority of Scripture? Why is the doctrine of inspiration of Scripture important? This is one of the most important verses in the Bible on the subject of inspiration. It informs and teaches us that the Scriptures are God-breathed. In a miraculous, supernatural way, God communicated His word to men and led them to write it down for permanent preservation. What they wrote was the very word of God, inspired and infallible. The words were given by the Holy Spirit and penned in the style of the writer. But again, the very words were given to the writers by the Holy Spirit. The source of the Scripture is God and God literally breathed His Word to the writers through the Holy Spirit. Thus, the source and authority of the Scripture is God. The doctrine of inspiration of Scripture is important because it establishes the authority of the Scriptures over humanity.
wifee
1a)All scripture OT&NT comes from God directly, we consider it as his breath, his word, his communication to us.Men wrote on parchment but the supernatural influence of the Holy Spirit on the Scripture writers enabled their writings to be an accurate record of the revelation and truth from Holy Spirit. "No prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit." (2 Peter 1:20-21) This resulted in what they wrote actually being the Word of God. b)Scripture we believe has as at it’s source God’s breath from which the Word is created/formed; it is given by inspiration of God.The source &authority of scripture is the Holy Spirit supernaturally influencing, divinely inspiring the writers.God Himself is the source not the instruments(men writers)used by God. God’s Breath means the Word is alive and is able to teach, train, correct, and inspire believers in His ways for ever."But this is how God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets...." (Acts 3:18) c)The doctrine of inspiration of Scripture we can believe because Jesus and the apostles also saw Scripture as divinely inspired. We believe that Scripture is God's Word because it claims to be that. And we believe its claims because Scripture is God's Word. The fact that it is God's Word, gives it the authority and inerrancy to be believed and to know with assurance that the Lord Himself is speaking through it when it is read."David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared...." (Mark 12:36) "The Scripture cannot be broken...." (John 10:35)"Until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished." Jonathan Edwards
The Holy Spirit has truly inspired the words and thoughts of the writers of the various books contained in the Holy Bible. Inspiration is the overseer of the communication and recording of those truths. What God says or teaches is truth which He requires men to obey. Inspiration guarantees that lies were told; fallacies we're propagated, but are deemed lies by God's Holy Bible. God did not sanction lies fallacies and crimes. We are chosen before the foundation of the world to heed to the truths contained in the Holy Bible. We have a sure Word of God that is perfect and Infallible, a record of the origin and destiny of all creation. The Bible fits the soul as a key to a lock. The Bible is like the handle of a combination lock of the most well built safe of a bank. Inspiration is very important because it guarantees that lies and fallacies of men were told. Krissi
I love this topic. Inspired means God-breathed: theo(s) + pneu (ma)-(stos). In the scriptural examples that Pastor Ralph gave us, the first has the Spirit "carrying along" the prophet. The second and fifth quoted verses types David "speaking by the Spirit" which was "in his mouth," and a last verse the "Spirit of Christ" within them as they prophesied. I intuit that the writers of scripture really didn't know how the Spirit worked in them and were struggling to put what was happening into words. They were certain, though, that these weren't their own thoughts being written, but the ideas of God Himself. Maybe the Spirit works in us to varying degrees. Some of us have a wee bit of the Spirit -- or, are aware of the Spirit only slightly -- while others lose their own voice as they speak His. The latter could be the prophets. The I Peter 1.11 verse is ambiguous -- I don't have my Greek with me now, so can't look it up. It could be interpreted that the prophets were scrambling "intensely" to figure out how the Spirit worked. They analyzed the times that He had spoken -- perhaps the timing was important? Then, they listed the circumstances in which He had spoken -- perhaps the place was important, or whatever was happening? It could also be interpreted as the apostles were intensely searching for when Christ would come again -- the time and circumstances of the suffering of Christ and the subsequent glories that followed. But what's important is that in either interpretation, the writer would not have doubted that the Spirit of Christ was speaking through them, somehow. They were truly prophets. Eldress Rowe
Inspiration of the Scripture means that the writers were supernaturally guided to express what God intended them to express as a revelation of His mind and will. The infallible communication of His mind and will were written in the manner and words in which it was originally given. They are His words, divine revelation that maybe depended upon infallibly true. That it is given by the inspiration of God is evident in it's style, truth, purity, and sublimity of it. the doctrine contained in it, the harmony of its parts, the power and the efficacy on the minds of those who converse with it. The term "God-breathed" tells us that the same reason into us breathes revelation among us for Scripture does not originate with men but comes directly from God, The doctrine of the inspiration of Scripture is important because it keeps it pure and incorrupt. They are profitable for reproof for there never was, nor is, nor can there ever be any error or hearsay in the word, but sufficient refutation. They are profitable for correction, for instruction un righteousness in every duty incumbent upon man with respect to God and man. It is able to make one wise to salvation , a sure guide in our way to eternal life.. It instructs one in what is true, reproves us from what is amiss, and directs in that which is good. haar
Q1. (2 Timothy 3:16) What does inspiration of Scripture mean? What does the term "God-breathed" tell us about the source and authority of Scripture? Why is the doctrine of inspiration of Scripture important? A1. By inspiration of Scripture, it means that God reveals his word out to men who then passed it out to people for action. ‘God breathed’ indicates that the word is from God through the Holy Spirit and is thus authentic and genuinely God’s word. Katy
Q1. Inspiration of Scripture means that the Holy Spirit inspired the writers of Scripture to write exactly what Jesus wanted them to say. There we many writers of the Scriptures all were inspired by God. God breathed means that the Scriptures come directly from God. He has Breathed them out into the minds of the script writers. Because the Scriptures are God breathed they are true and accurate. The doctrine of inspiration is very important because it means that because they are inspired by God we can have confidence in them and know they are accurate and true. Niyonka16
Q1. (2 Timothy 3:16) What does inspiration of Scripture mean? ANSWER: The Bible is verbally inspired and it is unique because it is God's revelation recorded in human language. According to 2 Timothy 3:16-17 the words of Scripture are "God breathed" or inspired. This implies that God is the source or origin of what is recorded in Scripture. God, through the Holy Spirit, used human authors to write what He revealed in the Bible. They were not mere copyists or transcribers. In other words, all Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. What does the term "God-breathed" tell us about the source and authority of Scripture? ANSWER: The phrase in 2 Timothy 3:16 simply means, that the Scripture came from God himself. That’s it. It was breathed out from his inner being. The Bible is, through and through, literally, God’s own Word. That simple fact itself is profoundly significant. The phrase tells us that, when God caused his divine word to be written by human authors, he breathed it through them. As God speaks words, we can imagine there is breath coming out of His mouth. And so, to say that all Scripture is God-breathed is to say that all Scripture has its source in God and that it comes from God and that it is therefore His word. To say that Scripture is God-breathed is a rather clear way of saying that Scripture is the very speech of God. Scripture is reliable, relatable, and relevant because it is God-breathed. Why is the doctrine of inspiration of Scripture important? ANSWER: The doctrine of inspiration of Scripture is important because Inspiration preserved the writers from error, which would be natural to them as sinful men, and guided them in their expression of thoughts and use of words so that what they wrote is God's own Word, “making the voice of God speak to us in a human accent, and His Word to address us in our own tongue”. The inspiration of Scripture reminds us that God wants us to know Him and His will, but more thank that, that He wants us to know the One He sent to rescue and redeem us, Jesus Christ, who gave His life for ours. Jonathan Edwards
Inspiration means that the Lord God is the Author of all books in the Bible. This inspiration of the Bible is paramount for reproof, corrections of errors, basis for Bible doctrines, and instruction. God spoke by the Holy Spirit, and holy men penned what He said. We have a sure word of prophecy; we don't base our beliefs on fables or on semi mythical stories akin to the Hindu mythological stories of Hindu pantheon. The various Biblical writers were moved by the HOLY SPIRIT. That's why we need to study and rightly divide the HOLY BIBLE in a prayerful way. Very important is divine inspiration. We need an anchor, a sure compass to guide us to heaven during these difficult days. Divine inspiration is a type of surety that the Holy Bible is the light house for us. We can truly stand on the promises of Christ despite what we see and feel at times.
Old Jerry
Inspiration of Scripture means that it wasn’t a human that just decided to write down what he was thinking. It was at God’s direction to them to write the words. The doctrine of inspiration of Scripture is important because we know that it was God that had the words written and we can be sure that they are true words. And besides our eternal life depends on the words of the bible. Thanks to these words we have something to look forward to.
hanks
Q1. (2 TIMOTHY 3:16) What does inspiration of Scripture mean? What does the term "God-breathed" tell us about the source and authority of Scripture? Why is the doctrine of inspiration of Scripture important? Inspiration is the way God guided and got men to write down His Word. God-breathed means that they wrote the words of God, inspired and infallible. God did not simply give the thoughts to the individual writers and allow them to express these thoughts in their own words - they were His own words. At the same time the individual literary style of each writer was not destroyed. Each writer wrote what God wanted them to write using their minds, talents, language, and style; even though they came from vastly different historical and cultural backgrounds. The doctrine of inspiration is vital. The whole Bible is God’s inspired Word, if this is not so it would be worthless as a reliable guide to divine truth. Because it is inspired and trustworthy, we use it as our standard for testing all truths and is our safeguard against false teachings which are so rife today. At the same time, it shows us how we should live as well as being the only source about our salvation. God wants to show us what is true and equip us to live for Him. Knowing that the Bible is the word of God; we know that it is the absolute truth, written without error and is our guide to Christian living – our instruction manual. It equips us to do every good work. But we have to be careful – our knowledge of God’s Word is not useful unless it strengthens our faith and leads us to do good.
