Q4. (1 John 2:15-17) What kinds of sins are covered by the three examples of worldliness that John gives? Why are these sometimes so difficult for us to discern in ourselves? Why is worldliness so harmful to our future?

Being full of pride because of what we have, looking at and desiring things and people that we shouldn't be looking at, thinking that all we need are sex, drugs, and rock-and-roll-these things and believing that the only person that matters to me is me-these things are covered, and more. We sometimes can't see our mistake because we want the thing so badly, and we think we have to have it. Also, we don't want to admit to ourselves that we are making or have made a mistake. All these things that we think are so important will not impress God. And, they will be destroyed someday. So, they don't really matter.

The kinds of sins John covers in his examples. **** of flesh, our desires and wants by any means neccessary. **** of the eyes, desiring someone wife or undressing someone in your mind; pride of life, arrogant, puffed up, thinks to much of himself.

These things are hard to recognize in ourselves because we have a ringside seat in the middle of it. The world around us is always playing these roles, its common place.

Worldliness is harmful to our future, because it can take us away from the love of God, if we are not persistent prayers and repenters.

Q4. (1 John 2:15-17) What kinds of sins are covered by the three examples of worldliness that John gives? Why are these sometimes so difficult for us to discern in ourselves? Why is worldliness so harmful to our future?

In this passage John provides three examples of worldliness -- **** of the flesh, **** of the eyes, and the pride of life. These types of sins are difficult to discern in ourselves because we often want to see ourselves in the best of light, thus we blindly or deliberately make excuses for our sin. Worldliness might just lead us to hell or diminish the rewards we might have received in Heaven. Jesus did say that some who say "Lord Lord" he will not know. Paul goes into great detail regarding the judgment seat of Christ.

1 John 2:15-17 covers about all the sins there are! **** of the eyes, of the flesh, and the pride of life lead to all sins. That is the reason we need a Saviour...for His forgiveness. The reason they are so difficult to discern in ourselves is that our heart is decietful...and will convince us that we can dabble in these areas without harm...but the deception is real..and eventually we end up in sin. We must live for the kingdom and not for the world...and the way to do that is to beware of the world. We can live that way and still lead people to the Lord...we don't need to be in the world to evangelize. Pray, and the Lord will send people across your life path for you to witness to about Him and His work on the Cross. You can lead them to the world. I do (of course, it's not me but the HS who does the saving, etc. ).

Worldliness is harmful to our future because it will lead to sin.

****/sexual fantasy (**** of the eyes), sexual sin/adultery/fornication (**** of the flesh), and self-righteousness/vanity--materialism (pride of life) are examples of the worldliness John was talking about. Getting entangled in such is detrimental because these things are only temporary, and will pass away with the world; if we become seduced and ensnared by these things, we will pass away with the present world and the things of it.

The kinds of sins covered by the three examples of worldliness mentioned by John are **** - wanting our own way; greed and pride.

It is sometimes diffult to realise that we are guilty of these because we may not intentionally commit such sins.

We should however let the Holy Spirit help us to appraise our motives/ actions to see whether they are in line with the way of the Lord.

Kinds of sins covered by the three examples of worldliness John gives.

The lu$t of the flesh-this is a craving or desire for something forbidden.

The lu$t of the eyes-often it is the eyes that lead us into sin. King David first looked upon Bathsheba with his eyes before committing adultary with her. Lu$t of the eyes can refer to any kind of seeing and wanting.

The pride of life-this refers to pride in riches, someone boasting in what he has and does

These things are sometimes very difficult for us to discern in ourselves because it is often easier to see the worldliness in others than it is in ourselves.

Worldliness is so harmful to our future because it causes us to accumalate material possessions on earth when we should be storing up spiritual treasures in heaven.

What kinds of sins are covered by the three examples of worldliness that John gives?

**** of the flesh .. includes fleshly desires such as drugs, alcohol, fornication, adultery, unhealthy eating habits, laziness, passivity, etc.

**** of the eyes .. includes promoting of jealousy, envy, strife, unhealthy desires, disbelief of God's Word, and includes what we gain through the physical senses that is ungodly.

Pride of life .. includes selfishness, self-centeredness, self-pity, self-hatred, guilt, condemnation, ungratefulness, hardening of the heart, invalid excuses and self-deception, arrogance, hatred, etc.

Why are these sometimes so difficult for us to discern in ourselves?

Because we make excuses and allow ourselves to believe what is more convenient at the time. It is the easiest road to self-deception which leads to a desire to believe what we want to believe and ignore the warnings of God.

Why is worldliness so harmful to our future?

The longer we ignore the truth, the more easily we are deceived by others as well as ourselves and the more real what we believe becomes in our lives (leaving the Word to be less believable to us), which leads us astray.

What kinds of sins are covered by the three examples of worldliness that John gives? Why are these sometimes so difficult for us to discern in ourselves? Why is worldliness so harmful to our future?

The **** of the flesh - self pleasure

The **** of the eyes - immorality, greed, jealousy, coveting, judging

The pride of life - thinking oneself better than others, thinking the accumulation of more stuff makes you better than others, arrogance

I have found that as I've grown in my faith that the Holy Spirit illumiates the areas where I am sucked into the things of the world. He gently shows me the emptiness and pointlessness of the sin and over time I recognise it and turn and away, knowing I'm being tempted.

If we do get fully involved with the "world", and deny God, we forfeit our salvation in Jesus. Life it too short here, it goes by so fast, and faster as you get older. I now know every minute counts and I can't waste time with distractions. Life is so much MORE here with Christ, and the promise of eternity with him is the greatest gift.

THE **** OF THE EYES, SEEING AND WANTING WHAT DOESNT BELONG TO YOU; THE PRIDE OF LIFE IN WHICH PEOPLE LIVE FOR WEALTH AND TO ACCUMULATE MORE SO THEY CAN BOAST OF WHAT THEY HAVE AND WHAT THEY CAN DO; AND THE **** OF THE FLESH SUCH AS SEXUAL ****, COVETOUSNESS, GREED, SELFISH AMBITIONS, AND IMMORALITY ARE SOME OF THE SINS COVERED BY JOHN'S THREE EXAMPLES. THIS IS SO DIFFICULT FOR ME TO SEE BECAUSE MY HEART CAN DECEIVE ME AND IT'S ONLY WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT'S HELP I SEE THESE THINGS AND REPENT.WORLDLINESS CAN KEEP MANY OUT OF THE KINGDOM BECAUSE WHEN WE PUT MONEY OR ANYTHING ELSE BEFORE GOD, WE ARE SETTING UP IDOLS IN OUR HEARTS, AND IDOLATRY IS SIN.

Q4. (1 John 2:15-17) What kinds of sins are covered by the three examples of worldliness that John gives? Why are these sometimes so difficult for us to discern in ourselves? Why is worldliness so harmful to our future?

It covers every aspect of sin/worldliness. It is difficult to discern in self often, because we are locked in self and focused on self. Wordliness is harmful as it is a focus on the temporary and a move away from God.

The ways of the world, friendship of the world, corruption in the world. All these thing are of the world and not of the Father. Those who choose to follow them will be lost.

2. We are blind and in the darkness when it comes to being in the light of the world. The true light is Jesus Christ, he is the only way of of the darkness. Trusting in him is our only way out.

3. The world is passing away.

The three examples of worldliness given, lead to greed, jealousy, trying to get our own way, judging and gossipping and being unkind to others.

It is hard to see these things in ourselves, although we can easily see them in others. God helps us see ourselves more clearly by showing us a 'mirror image' of ourselves.

When we are disturbed at what someone else is doing, it is most likely to be a mirror image of what we do ourselves. One finger points forward - but four point back to us!

Three kinds of sins are: cravings for alcohol or other addictions .. **** of the eyes could be *********** or the adverts on TV for things we don't need!! .. boasting is the exact opporsite of what Christ tells us we should be like in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7)

We are so immersed in the world we cannot see things in ourselves - sometimes we need our husband or wife or a close friend to wake us up to these. blessings - Denis

The three examples of sins here are: **** of the eyes, cravings of the flesh and boasting or pridefulness.

People sometimes sees the first two as sexual. But also they are of material things. People sometimes want a house, but want a "big" house. Why, so people will take notice? People need to pay attention to "the whys", of why we want things. There are sometimes sinful reasons.

Wordly desires are temporary and will pass by. Spiritual desires are eternal.

Q4. (1 John 2:15-17) What kinds of sins are covered by the three examples of worldliness that John gives? Why are these sometimes so difficult for us to discern in ourselves? Why is worldliness so harmful to our future?

The **** of the flesh the **** of the eyes, and the pride of the world. The **** of the flesh describes the unholy yearning of sensual gratification, which most often includes sexual sin, gluttony and substance abuse. The **** of the eyes describes the covetous nature of man. Whatever he sees, he wants. It is the nature of man to yearn for things beyond his reach. Once he gets that thing, then he yearns for the next thing beyond his reach. In its natural state, this condition is insatiable. Often, this leads one to commit other sins such as theft, lying, adultery etc. But, once Christ has taken hold of our hearts, we begin to see things from His perspective. The glitter of the world loses its fascination and we see through the veil of the deception of the devil.

The pride of life or boasting of what one has or does describes itself. It means holding and maintaining an air of superiority over those who are less well to do or less well endowed with certain gifts. It is a very short sighted attitude for He who gave those gifts would balance out the scales in due course. It is very difficult to discern this in ourselves, because, it is a very natural thing for man to be this way and we often dress it up with excuses and euphemisms.

Worldliness is so harmful to our future, because we tend to develop attachments to worldly systems and attitudes which then causes degeneration in our spiritual lives and consequently our Christian witness. Therefore we must carefully wade our way through the murky swamps of the world, and choose wisely where next to tread.

**** of the flesh: the craving and strong desire to want the physical things that are in opposition to God's will.

**** of the eyes: to actually see something and bring wrong thoughts to our mind, whether it be in sexual sin, negative thoughts or strong desire to please ourselves.

Pride of life: that part of us that wants others to know we are better, we have more, our arrogance.

I think that sometimes we do not see ourselves in a negative manner....we only see these traits in others.....we try to put a veil over our own wrongdoings, this is all part of the pride thing. It takes so much living to finally realize we are only travelers passing through this world, and if we were only kind, humble and meek our testimony would be so clear. When we become world centered, we lose sight of the goal, Jesus.

Q4. (1 John 2:15-17) What kinds of sins are covered by the three examples of worldliness that John gives? Why are these sometimes so difficult for us to discern in ourselves? Why is worldliness so harmful to our future?

Selfishness; bragging; lying; physical, sexual, mental abuse; hating; selfishness; stealing; backstabbing;and any characteristic that is unholy. We have a difficult time seeing ourselves as we are because we are so intent on our own interests. Concentrating on things of the world prevents us from living with God. We must stop doing as we please and concentrate on the things of Christ. When the trappings of the world falls away, the items we have cherished are gone. But, the love of God and His promises are what will last forever.

Q4. (1 John 2:15-17) What kinds of sins are covered by the three examples of worldliness that John gives? Why are these sometimes so difficult for us to discern in ourselves? Why is worldliness so harmful to our future?

The sins that are covered are the desires of the body, any and every desire of man in his rebellion against God. The **** of the eyes, the pride of life which is pride in riches, boasting in our wealth or circunstance, appearing to be important. Sometimes it is difficult for us to discern because we think we are doing nothing wrong. Worldliness is so harmful because it pulls us away from God, from his truth and love.

Q4. (1 John 2:15-17) What kinds of sins are covered by the three examples of worldliness that John gives? Why are these sometimes so difficult for us to discern in ourselves? Why is worldliness so harmful to our future?

The **** of the flesh is powerful, created by God to all life to continue [children, family values, good things] this can be distorted by looking at a woman or man for pure selfish physical pleasure. Taking action makes it worse, this brings in the primitive desire of man the animal instinctive desire. Be it only in viewing or in taking action, the mind has been compromised, there is no love for God getting through to the heart; the hear is damaged. Lastly objects like cars, homes, fancy clothing, these must not become more important than serving God and bowing to his will. These things of the world must not be allowed to dominate our minds and actions, the love of God is better than anything else. Digesting this and living it are challenges, but rewarding as it/jesus says over and over in the Gospel. "Trust in me, I have overcome the world."

1.Envy, greed, wanting things that are forbidden. Sexual ****. Pride in our life. Forgetting that God gives us everthing that we need, we do not earn it, it is freely given

2. We think that we can't be guilty of these things because we know God, we forget that we are humans, we are tempted, we sin.

3. It can keep us from heaven, keep us from living forever with God.
