Antwan
Q4. (1 John 2:24-28) What does it mean to abide/remain/continue in Jesus? Give an example of what a Christian might be doing who is "abiding" in Jesus. What are symptoms in a Christian who is not "abiding" in Jesus? For someone to abide, or remain, in Christ, they keep His word and teachings, and live by them (Christ's doctrine) continually; they do not stray from what He has originally taught. An example of abiding in Jesus Christ would be to love everyone, especially your fellow believers in Christ, because Christ Himself commanded us to. Someone who does not abide in Jesus Christ is one that strays from the original teaching; they may pervert the original doctrine and live by that, or they may intentionally turn from Christ; also, someone who doesn't take their position in Christ seriously is not abiding in Him. Craig
Q4. (1 John 2:24-28) What does it mean to abide/remain/continue in Jesus? Give an example of what a Christian might be doing who is "abiding" in Jesus. What are symptoms in a Christian who is not "abiding" in Jesus? To abide/remain/continue in Jesus means consistently living out the commandants and teaching of Jesus Christ and the Apostles. My life should reflect the gospel of Jesus Christ. Christians not abiding in Jesus become "carnal Christians" or stray into distorted gospel, not holding fast to the gospel presented by Jesus Christ and passed to the Apostles. An example could be a Christian not abiding in Jesus is one who might think that Jesus is not the only way, truth, and life. I have met some who proclaim to be Christians who believe there are many ways to Heaven and eternal life. That is not what Jesus Christ taught. glory
TO ABIDE OR CONTINUE IN THE LORD MEANS TO STAY CONNECTED TO THE VINE IN SPITE OF THE TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS OF THIS LIFE. A PERSON WHO IS ABIDING IN CHRIST WILL LIVE THE LIFE OF A TRUE CHRISTIAN, EMBRACING GODLY PRINCIPLES, AND DOING THE WORD, NOT JUST HEARING IT.HIS DESIRE IS TO PLEASE GOD AND SURRENDER TOTALLY TO HIM.HE DESIRES TO LIVE A LIFE OF OBEDIENCE UNTO GOD AND IS QUICK TO REPENT WHEN HE FALLS SHORT BECAUSE HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LORD IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO HIM.THOSE NOT ABIDING IN JESUS DONT CARE ABOUT BIBLE READING OR FELLOWSHIPPING WITH THE SAINTS. THEY ARE VERY CARNAL AND LIVE THEIR LIVES IN THE FLESH, TO PLEASE THEMSELVES, AND NOT AFTER THE SPIRIT OF GOD.
peacebringer
Abiding, is remaining in, continuing in, drawing from. It is how being fed. Abide in Jesus, remaining faithful to the Gospel. Someone abiding inJesus will fellowship and draw strength from. Abiding in Jesus will not add to or take away from the Gospel. SOmeone who falls to abide will be selfish. They will add something to the gospel. Often may even take of special understanding or elevate self to a place of "specialness". Ultimatey something is taken away from Jesus and ascribed to self. kiwidenis
Q4. (1 John 2:24-28) What does it mean to abide/remain/continue in Jesus? Give an example of what a Christian might be doing who is "abiding" in Jesus. What are symptoms in a Christian who is not "abiding" in Jesus? Our Lord Jesus commanded us to abide in Him (John 15:7) abiding is in the present continous tense = continually abiding in Him. If we want tHis blessings and His strength for the journey we must. If we do not we so easily go astray. Abiding means special time spent alone with our Lord every day if possible ... at the least it means living minute by minute knowing His presence with you - speaking and listening to Him ... conscious of His presence through the Holy Spirit living IN US. Hallelujah. Not abiding in Christ leads to a cold faith and even eventually a loss of faith - It has been said that a back slider is simply a 'slack abider!' blessings - Denis
Debra M.
What does it mean to abide/remain/continue in Jesus? It means that our lives will be changed on a continual basis and we will be gradually and progressively transformed into His image over our lifetime. It means that we will be listening out for instruction from the Holy Spirit and striving to be pleasing to the Father. Give an example of what a Christian might be doing who is "abiding" in Jesus. A Christian who abides in Jesus will be quick to repent of sin. He/she will strive to walk in love and learn His ways and His commandments. There will be manifested change within the individual that abides in Jesus. Time and money will be spent to get to know Him on a more intimate level. Many will see the abiding Christian as a fanatic. What are symptoms in a Christian who is not "abiding" in Jesus? There will be no manifested changes within this individual. They may claim to know Him or believe in Him, but their actions will speak differently than their claims. I have found many times, that they are usually guilty of the very things that they accuse the 'Christian fanatic' of doing or saying. Their words and their actions will usually line up with the cares and desires of the world and/or the flesh. Lots of talk and no action in these individuals. Debbie Cambridge
Q4. (1 John 2:24-28) What does it mean to abide/remain/continue in Jesus? Give an example of what a Christian might be doing who is "abiding" in Jesus. What are symptoms in a Christian who is not "abiding" in Jesus? As a Christian we must be really familiar with Jesus, his life, his teachings, his character. So in order to do that we need to pray, to read about him in the Bible, and in books. We need to live like Him, following His example. Without a constant stream of "living water" from The Word of God, we can't survive as a Christian. A Christian who is "abiding" would be in daily contact with Jesus, through prayer, The Word, and other Christians. It can be seen on the outside of how they live and how they cope with tough situations. A Christian who is not "abiding" is distracted, and can easily be tempted and kept busy by the deceiver, so he/she stays away from fellowship with God. A slow slide into confusion and sin and all things that go with that. Their lives will reflect the "lack of God".
Greta
Abiding in Jesus means that we dwell in Him and He in us. A Christian abiding in Jesus will be spending time every day in the Word of God and in prayer, and Jesus will be seen to be shaping this Christians's life. A Christian who is not abiding in Jesus will find himself slipping further away and may even be going back to some of his old habits. sweetpea
Q4. (1 John 2:24-28) What does it mean to abide/remain/continue in Jesus? Give an example of what a Christian might be doing who is "abiding" in Jesus. What are symptoms in a Christian who is not "abiding" in Jesus? To abide in Jesus means that a Christian is a person who lives for Jesus, by studying His word, daily devotions/in prayer and living an honest and worthy life. A Christian who is not abiding in Jesus is a person who does not study God's Word, who starts to go back to his old way of life by cheating, lying and living an imoral life. Commissioned
Q4. (1 John 2:24-28) What does it mean to abide/remain/continue in Jesus? To abide/remain/continue in Jesus means to continually live by His word; allowing the teaching of Christ to be our daily guide for living. Give an example of what a Christian might be doing who is "abiding" in Jesus. Jesus told us, "If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you" (John 15:7, NRSV). The Christian who is abiding in Him will go to Him daily making all requests known to Him. What are symptoms in a Christian who is not "abiding" in Jesus? When we are not abiding in Jesus, we take on situations in the flesh believing that we can respond without consulting Him. Then when we find ourselves in greater problems we are left feeling that He has left us, when in fact He was there all along.
Foofee's Nana
To abide in Jesus means to follow Him, keep in His word, remember the teachings of scripture. We believe that Jesus was born in the flesh by virgin birth, died on the cross for our sin, rose again the 3rd day....we need to hold to these truths to abide....to remain, to stay. A christian who is abiding seeks out study, to remain in the word, keep a prayer life. We want to hold tight to our first teachings and also grow spiritually. A christian who is not abiding starts to step more easily into the world, perhaps not read the Bible, or pray. In this fast paced world we sometimes lose sight that everything that we think is so different has always been the same....we are human, all of the temptations have always been around. It makes no differnce if we are in the computer era or in times of Moses....we need Christ.
maddog
Q4. (1 John 2:24-28) What does it mean to abide/remain/continue in Jesus? Give an example of what a Christian might be doing who is "abiding" in Jesus. What are symptoms in a Christian who is not "abiding" in Jesus? Abiding/remain/continue in Christ means to keep the Word of God within you. We must abide in the Spirit by keeping our eyes on what we know, the teaching of Jesus, and responding to the situations we encounter with high morality. The Spirit will convict us when we are about or do wrong. An example would be observing improper behavior but not reporting it to constituted authority, or, living a double life. Symptoms are lying, cheating, living unclean, selfisness, etc.

Give an example of what a Christian might be doing who is "abiding" in Jesus. What are symptoms in a Christian who is not "abiding" in Jesus? To abide in Jesus is to act according to His teaching, at all times. If a person sees someone who is less needs a coat, that person gives him their coat. Or someone who is teaching or testifying about the goodness of God. Some who is judging others, not showing brotherly love. No applying the teachings they learned in their everyday life. servant for Christ
Q4. (1 John 2:24-28) What does it mean to abide/remain/continue in Jesus? Give an example of what a Christian might be doing who is "abiding" in Jesus. What are symptoms in a Christian who is not "abiding" in Jesus? It means we are to stay true to God and His word, do not loose hope, or doubt. We have to abide in the original teaching of Christ and the apostles. Someone that is abiding will be reading, studying God's word, praying, and seeking His face. Standing strong and firm in God. Someone that is not abiding will be doubting His word, not taking it seriously, not trusting in God. Will be separated from God. It is so important for us to study and hold fast to the Word of God. Our very souls and eternal destiny depend on it.
royk
Q4. (1 John 2:24-28) What does it mean to abide/remain/continue in Jesus? Give an example of what a Christian might be doing who is "abiding" in Jesus. What are symptoms in a Christian who is not "abiding" in Jesus? John 15:7 is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. For me "remaining" is about being close to Jesus NOW. NOW is now, the present tense, i.e. right now, to keep Him in our mind and heart and as a result be close enough to feel the Holy Spirit. It is said in the fictional book "The Shack" the only way ot be with God is in the present, not in the past or future. Remaining or being in the now is about the only thing that is real, the only truth. It is the only place we are safe and with God, all else is imaginary thoughts of the past or future. He said only take care of today, don't worry about tomorrow. If we are afraid of the future, or stuck on some emotional thing of the past, we are not able to abide, and unable to server God in the moment as he would expect us to do. I pray for us all to abide in Jesus, especially me. It is difficult but I feel it can be dome with a lot of prayer and discipline.

Deborah Eberhard
What does it mean to abide / remain / continue in Jesus? To abide and continue in Jesus is to daily seek Him and His teachings out. It is too easy as a human to be tempted and drift away. Pray without ceasing. Constantly seek to understand the Word and to learn more. Give an example of what a Christian might be doing who is "abiding" in Jesus: A Christian who is abiding in Jesus is most likely reading the Word daily, speaking to God daily, and constantly seeking out more knowledge and allowing the holy Spirit to guide their ways. What are symptoms in a Christian who is not "abiding" in Jesus? A Christian who is not abiding in Jesus is most likely in a very dark place. They may not be aware of their daily sinning. To know Christ and His laws is to obey them. Even Christians will continue to sin, however, the Holy Spirit makes them more aware. Someone who is not abiding in Jesus may think it's okay to continue to live in sin because they feel they are forgiven no matter what. jacquie7
To abide, remain, and continue in Jesus means to continue or stay with the teaching of the “true” gospel and not desert or reject it. To do this, true Christians must read and study the word of God, not drift from it, or take their faith for granted to the point that we feel that we don’t need to seek Jesus every day. Symptoms of Christians not abiding in Jesus are those who are not growing in knowledge or deepening their understanding of the Lord, they don’t read or study the word of God, they stop attending church, or they abandon basic spiritual truths. Craig
Q4. (1 John 2:24-28) What does it mean to abide/remain/continue in Jesus? Give an example of what a Christian might be doing who is "abiding" in Jesus. What are symptoms in a Christian who is not "abiding" in Jesus? To abide in Christ means to maintain a relationship with Jesus. Daily prayer, Bible study, personal worship, service, and fellowship with other Christians enables us to maintain a daily relationship with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This results in a deep spiritual life. Christians not engaging in the above practices are not abiding in Jesus. This will be seen in a shallow spirituality. Guitar Jim
Q4. (1 John 2:24-28) What does it mean to abide/remain/continue in Jesus? We should continue to believe in, to rely upon, to love, to be in constant communication . . . with Jesus. He should be in our thoughts all the time and we should behave and live as though He was looking over our shoulder. He's actually closer to us than looking over our shoulder but that's an apt analogy. Give an example of what a Christian might be doing who is "abiding" in Jesus. Well, what he or she WOULDN'T be doing is worrying over the day to day issues. The Christian who is abiding in Jesus would be taking everything to God in prayer and be quietly confident that the Father and the Son are in control of every situation. Such a person would be exhibiting love for their fellow believers and for the world in general. What are symptoms in a Christian who is not "abiding" in Jesus? They would have an unforgiving atitude and be self-reliant, as far as decision making goes without taking it to God first. They wouldn't be seen to love their brothers and sisters in Christ or the world at large.
