Q3. Supporting Missionaries

Recommended Posts

  • 4 weeks later...

Q3. (3 John 5-8) What are the reasons given in these verses for supporting Christian workers in their ministry?

It is a fine and faithful work, (especially when they are strangers...amplified), honored by God, and it forwards them on their journey. We are fellow workers in the Truth cooperating with its teachers, and this support indicates that we are living in the Truth.

What reward comes with becoming a "co-worker," by assisting Christian workers?

As fellow workers, we receive the same reward as they who do the work.

How effective can Christian workers be without those who support them?

Having little or no support greatly limits effectiveness. When we provide financial support it frees them to do their ministry work, instead of trying to earn a living. Prayer support is like the "wind beneath their wings", and bouys them up emotionally and spiritually against attacks from the enemy who works against them.

These verses give several reasons for supporting Christian workers whose occupation is their ministry.

1) It is a demonstration of love to the church.

2) It is "well-doing" to support them in a manner that honors God.

3) They do their work without support from unbelievers, only for the sake of "the name" which is common to believers - Christ the person of God, His message, and His reputation.

4) In following the model of the early church, we're called to share in meeting needs of fellow members of the Body and to participate in taking the Gospel message to the whole world.

Two analogies come to mind. A sports team has members with common calling, purpose, head leadership, and name. The teammates have varied roles to play but all must support each other to work in unity. For example, in football the defense has a specific function that differs from the offense, but neither can be successful without the other. Another comparison is the cast of a theatrical play. There are many cast members, each with their own part, dialogue, and scenes. But they are all components of presenting the same story and each is dependent on the others. And the whole cast relies on the numerous people behind the scenes - directors, costumers, set-producers, and technicians who never appear out front before the audience. The message won't be effective unless every individual is working for the benefit of the whole.

Members of our Body are called to function in a similar partnership. As "teammates" we must support each other in our varied roles in order to reach the ultimate common goal with the effective excellence that is worthy of our supremely excellent Savior. Some are called to go and the rest of us are called to give as God provides, even if it demands sacrifice on our part. When a sports team achieves "the win", every member shares in the victory, reward, and glory. The entire cast and crew enjoy the applause and critical acclaim of an award-winning play. We will share in the rewards and commendations of anything done for God's kingdom, no matter what our individual role. Except our recognition won't be trophies or accolades that will eventually forgotten. It will be in heaven for eternity to the glory of our Head, the Lord Jesus Christ!

God can and does make much out of little, but Christian workers will never be able to be as effective as possible if they are constantly distracted by the demands of providing their own support for ministry and basic personal needs. There will be some inevitable loss of reach and/or impact of their work for expansion of the kingdom. And there are probably calls on the lives of many that have been hampered, curtailed, or even unrealized because of lack of support from the Body of Christ.

The reasons are to spread the love & work together for the truth.

As a fellow worker, the salvation of souls brings glory to God & we had a small part in the process!

Not effective at all! Missionaries have told me the power behind prayer is so necessary--as necessary as food & water & breath. Obviously, support is very important too--their needs must be met, and there are no better persons than the body to meet them all! That's how God worked it out!! His love!!

Q3. (3 John 5-8) What are the reasons given in these verses for supporting Christian workers in their ministry? What reward comes with becoming a "co-worker," by assisting Christian workers? How effective can Christian workers be without those who support them?

Jesus is the vine, and we are the branches. Every branch that does not produce fruit is cut off and thrown into the fire. Everything we do for the Lord counts-from the smallest thing to the largest thing. We all need support of some kind. And being that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ, we should give to each other what we can. Whether it's a cup of java, or a twenty-dollar bill. I can't make it without you, and you can't make it without me! We are just a small part of a very big family! Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy! :D

Q3. (3 John 5-8) What are the reasons given in these verses for supporting Christian workers in their ministry? What reward comes with becoming a "co-worker," by assisting Christian workers? How effective can Christian workers be without those who support them?

The reasons given in these verses for supporting Christian workers in their ministry are, they are missionaries supporting a cause for Christ, they have gone out in Jesus' name and they need fellow believers to partner with them in the work. When you become a "co-worker," by assisting Christian workers you are rewarded because of your part in helping the work get done. Without the support of others, Christian Workers may be distracted from carrying out the work that they have been called to; and time is taken away from ministerial duties to labor for personal and family support.

A co worker supplies a supportive network to the believer who is at the 'coal face'. To those who are chosen to carry out this wonderful work back room support is required, in prayer and all manner of support.

Everybody has his own calling.

Not all of us can be Christian workers.

The other work also has to be done!

Now Christian workers - like Paul, Timothy and pastor Ralph - have to eat.

If they work for us, they don't have time to work somewhere else - so they don't get a salary.

Therefore, we have to support them.

If Paul had to make tents for his living or if pastor Ralph had to work for some company, they have less time for Christian work so they are less effective.

We can support them with prayer, money, creating changes to speak, ...

We have a special obligation to these servants of the Lord. They go out in faith trusting our Lord to support them. We are to become fellow workers and give them all the assistance they need. Besides financial support we can uphold them with prayer and encourage them in our emails. Our Heavenly Father will pay back all good deeds

Those who freely make known Christ's Gospel should be helped by others to whom God gives the means. As co-workers They should consider not only what they must do, but what they may do.

We as Christians belong to one body and are led to support our brethren in the mission field both financially and prayerfully by the love of God that permeates through us. We receive reward according to His will and Christ Himself affirmed this.

To become effective and unified we need to support one another in our quest to glorify Gods name, in spreading His gospel throughout the world. Those who have been specifically called to full time service need all our support and prayers. In giving we receive, to enable us to give more.Amen!

The reasons given for supporting Christians in their ministry are:

a) Doing so has a reaward from God, the reward is now and when we meet the Lord in the last day.

B) When we assist ministers in their ministry, we are co- workers with them in the vineyard of God. thus we are also serving God.

c) When we help such needy ones, we are indirectly doing it to the Lord.

d) It is an obligation for Christians to support Christian workers beacuse they are not expected to get assistance from non Christians for their ministry work.

The ministry of full time Christian workers will not be successful without the financial and other types of support from us.

Q3. (3 John 5-8) What are the reasons given in these verses for supporting Christian workers in their ministry? Because they are going out to serve Christ without looking to non believers to provide funds for them, therefore as fellow Christians John is saying that we should support them and in doing so we will actually be participating with them in serving Christ.

What reward comes with becoming a "co-worker," by assisting Christian workers? Eternity in the presence and glory of God

How effective can Christian workers be without those who support them? God will always find a way to support His workers, but support these workers undoubtedly need and it is our duty, as commanded by Jesus Himself to provide that support.

We should support the missioneries/Christian workers because they are working for Christ and when we support them, we are also working for Christ.

As a co-worker assisting the Christian workers, we receive the same reward that they do.

They can still be effective, but will reach more people if they have our help.

Q3 The reasons given for supporting Christian workers in their ministry are:-

a) They go forth on a journey to continue Christ's work. -

When sent out they required accommodations, transport, food, etc.

B) They proclaimed the good news in the name of Jesus. -

They acted on our behalf and by helping we are one in spirit with them in

service.

c) They seek funds from believers. - Believers benefited from them, cause they

are there to help them grow spiritually as we are one the body of Christ.

d) They made us co-workers. - We are one family as we profess we are brothers

and sisters in Christ. Therefore whatever reward they received we too will

enjoy the joy with them.

God knows our effect. Our work will not go unnoticed by God. For in Luke 6:38 it

says: "Give and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken

together, running over, they will pour into your lap."

In human understanding nothing will materialized if there are no support. Even if

there is, the progress will be slow and sluggish for the world thinks in term of

money only.

With God, everything is possible. Since God chose and called us to continue in

His work, He will see to our needs. For when He sent the 70 out (Luke 10:1-16)

He instructed them not to take anything with them. We should trust in God's

providence.

We should be supporting fellow Christian workers in their ministries because we in turn, become co-workers with them in their work. We may become co-workers in receiving them or offering a place to stay. We may be co-workers in prayer or in financial giving. Whatever we have to give, we should give freely to those who we are sure are walking in Christ for His Kingdom purposes.

We also know, that as we do these things, we are doing them for Christ Himself as we have been taught that as we do it for the least of these, we did it for Him. There is always more effectiveness when others are supportive. More needs are met through the gifting of many and to use those gifts for God's kingdom are in obedience to His Word also. And....I'm a firm believer that we not only support those in larger and more recognized missions work, but there are all kinds of servants in smaller missions who need our support, prayers and time as encouragement. These are most often overlooked and are in great need of our help and support.

Q3. (3 John 5-8) What are the reasons given in these verses for supporting Christian workers in their ministry? What reward comes with becoming a "co-worker," by assisting Christian workers? How effective can Christian workers be without those who support them?

They did their work faithfully not only for their brethren but for strangers also. They went forward not accepting or taking anything from those who did not believe in Christ. Not only did the receivers of their time need to support the Christian workers, but we also need to support them.My reward is being able to do Gods work, the joy, excitement it brings just to share His Word.To know that Christ is there with me is a reward just for being a co worker. In other words CHRIST is the reward! Without support Christian workers have a hard time being effective.Christ is the head of the church and we are the church, so the more we support each other the more we can grow, in Christ and outward as Christ showed us on the cross with His arms stretched out. Thank you Jesus.

Christians support other christian leaders or partner with there teachings pertaining to Jesus Christ. In supporting other Christian leaders it is as if we take part in their stepping out and furthering the gospels, A "co-worker" works along side of other Christ like believers and teachers by supporting them. If Christians didn't support them their ministeries would fall short very quickly,

What ever we do for them we are doing for Christ. They go out in the name of Christ and need Christian support and they seek nothing from non-believers. The reward is the promises Jesus gave us what ever we do for them we are doing for Jesus and laying up treasures in heaven. They can't be effective if they have no support from other Christians because they will have to struggle with there needs and not have time to minister the word of God to those who need to hear.

WE ARE TO SUPPORT CHRISTIAN WORKERS IN THEIR MINISTRY BECAUSE OF OUR LOVE FOR GOD AND TO ENABLE THEM TO BE MORE EFFECTIVE AT REACHING THE LOST FOR JESUS.WHEN WE ASSIST CHRISTIAN WORKERS, WE BECOME CO- WORKERS WHO NOW PARTAKE OF THE SAME REWARDS AS THEY DO.WITHOUT OUR SUPPORT, THEY CANT GO ON THE MISSION FIELDS. WE ARE THE ONES TO SEND THEM BY HELPING TO MEET THEIR NEEDS OR ELSE THEY'D HAVE TO FIND EMPLOYMENT WHICH WOULD KEEP THEM AWAY FROM GOD'S CALLING FROM THEIR LIVES.

In helping support missionaries that go out to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the supporters are actually helping Christ spread the message about Himself, and helping His church grow, since the missionaries don't go out for their own sakes, but for Christ's. Also, in supporting the missionaries, and showing hospitality to them, one receives his/her reward from Christ Himself at His coming on Judgment Day. I believe that God's plans are never thwarted, and He will always find ways to accomplish His plan and will, but the effectiveness of the Christian workers probably wouldn't be as strong without the aid of fellow believers backing them.

When you help someone who is spreading the Good News, you are in a very real way a partner in the ministry. Not everyone should go to the mission field; those who work for Christ at home are vital to the ministry of those who go and who need support. We can support missionaries by praying for them and by giving them our money, hospitality, and time.
