maddog
Q4. (Genesis 27:33) Why couldn't Isaac reverse his blessing once he discovers Jacob's trickery? What is Isaac's role in this blessing? What is God's role in it? Once given and blessed by the father it cannot be changed, except by God. David,by divine quidance passed the birthright from Adonijah to Solomon. Reuben's birthright was given by God to Levi. Isaac's role requires him to be the medium God uses to fulfill His message: the firstborn of man and beast belongs to Him. The blessing consists of a double portion of the wealth, the judge of the clan, and the mantle of priesthood.

charchar
Q4. (Genesis 27:33) Why couldn't Isaac reverse his blessing once he discovers Jacob's trickery? What is Isaac's role in this blessing? What is God's role in it? Isaac couldn'g reverse it because it was a blessing from God that he gave his son Jacob rule over his prosessions. Isaac was to be obidient to God regardless of how it came about. God had already given the command it must have been filfulled and it was regardless of how we may think or feel. Many lesson can be learn from this one situation.
PATCH
Q4. (Genesis 27:33) Why couldn't Isaac reverse his blessing once he discovers Jacob's trickery? What is Isaac's role in this blessing? What is God's role in it? [/quote Blessing the children was very much a part of the Jewish custom. The purpose of the blessing is consecrate the one receiving the blessing, setting him apart for a special purpose. The blessing was not something conjured by Isaac but God speaking through Isaac. Once it was delivered, it could be not taken back. Isaac's role in the blessing was fulfilling Jacob's divine destiny that he will be the stronger people and that his elder brother will serve him. God had already prophecied over Esau and Jacob when they were in their mother's womb. The prophecy was that the elder shall serve the younger. When Isaac knew the end was near for him, he asked to bless Esau NOT Jacob. Rebekah, remembering God's prophecy, decided to deceive both Isaac and Esau so that Jacob would be one receiving the blessing. Although the way she and Jacob went about doing it was wrong, whatever was intended for "evil" God could turn it for good.
Antwan
Q4. (Genesis 27:33) Why couldn't Isaac reverse his blessing once he discovers Jacob's trickery? What is Isaac's role in this blessing? What is God's role in it? The blessing could not be reversed once Isaac blessed Jacob for two reasons. One reason is because God had already declared that Esau would serve Jacob, so it had to happen. For God's own purposes, He chose to bring the plan of salvation about through the line of Jacob instead of Esau. Another reason, in my opinion, being that since we are created in the Image of God, and God can create and bring things into existence by merely speaking, we also have this ability (to an extent; there is life and death in the power of the tongue, which should teach us to be more careful about what we say and declare). Once something is said, it can't be retracted or changed because we didn't mean it or want to call it back.
Kerryanne
In the time this blessing was given your word stands. It was like a binding contract that could not be reversed. It was also Gods word to Jacob and Esau. Isaac was Gods spokesman to give the prophecy. Isaac was to leave a blessing to the oldest son. This was a blessing to fulfil the birthright that was given to you for being the first born. God used Isaac to fulfil his part for the destiny for Israel as a nation. The promise was made to Abraham. linda bass
Isaac couldn't reverse his blessing once he discovered Jacob's trickery because it was a spoken prophecy from God Himself. Isaac's role in this blessing is that he is the spokesman that God uses to convey the prophecy through the blessing. God's role is to give the prophecy to Isaac as he unknowingly blesses Jacob rather than Esau.
Rosie1Rose
Q4. (Genesis 27:33) Why couldn't Isaac reverse his blessing once he discovers Jacob's trickery? What is Isaac's role in this blessing? What is God's role in it? This is one of those 'It's unfair' questions. God's will was for Jacob to be blessed, but to allow the blessing through deceit?? As said earlier, God knew about Rebekah's deceit, did he use it for good? Was that why there was the prophecy? Was Jacob going to be a better leader? Did it happen because Esau disrespected his birthright? I don't get it, any more than I get injustice or suffering or why God only works sometimes. I do however choose to trust in a great big Almighty God even when it doesn't make sense.
royk
Q4. (Genesis 27:33) Why couldn't Isaac reverse his blessing once he discovers Jacob's trickery? What is Isaac's role in this blessing? What is God's role in it? The birthright being given up so foolishly makes me think of how I was lost before God led me home again. Praise God! Likewise, when Issac realized he had been tricked, he didn't try to cancel out the blessing he'd given Jacob, but just to mitigate the woe of Esau with a blessing to partly free him from the yoke of his brother. Was this not God's plan? Of course ti was. Esau learned he had been very foolish and Godless when he went to satisfy his stomach not his birthright. I would hope to learn to follow God faithfully from this lesson as I have just taken a new job, given another chance by our might God. I will only succed by following Him and His commands that are written in the Bible.
Tim501
Even though Isaac was blessed in God's eyes, he is still only a man. That said, man is powerless to change the will of our Creator and it was His will for Jacob to receive the blessing.

What is God's role in it? ISAAC COULDN'T REVERSE THE BLESSING BECAUSE IT CAME FROM GOD HIMSELF.ISAAC WAS THE SPOKESPERSON, GOD'S MOUTHPIECE, AS IT WERE, TO SPEAK THE BLESSING UPON JACOB . GOD WAS THE ONE SPEAKING THROUGH ISAAC.
DrD
In spite of the deception of Jacob and his mother Rebekah the blessings Isaac spoke into Jacob's life were in actuality God's will, purpose and plan - which cannot be amended, anulled, reversed or denied. . . Isaac's role in this was to speak the blessings into the life Jacob, who is the one God's intends to bless in these areas. . . God's role, since this is His will and plan for Jacob, is to manifest and bring these blessings to pass in Jacob's life. . .
servant for Christ
Q4. (Genesis 27:33) Why couldn't Isaac reverse his blessing once he discovers Jacob's trickery? What is Isaac's role in this blessing? What is God's role in it? Isaac couldn't reverse his blessing because it was God's blessing, not Isaac's. Isaac's role was that he was just a spokesperson for God. Once he spoke the blessing, it could not be undone. God's role was that it was his plan for their life. Guitar Jim
Q4. (Genesis 27:33) Why couldn't Isaac reverse his blessing once he discovers Jacob's trickery? Because he knew he was delivering God's blessing. Even in his aged dementia Isaac knew that. You can't put the toothpaste back in the tube. The three patriarchs Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were all kind of prophets of God in a time before there was any written law or rules for worship. What is Isaac's role in this blessing? Isaac is speaking in part a prophecy from God concerning the future circumstances surrounding his sons. What is God's role in it? What we've got happening here is the foundation being laid for God's Kingdom on Earth. God put the prophetic words into Isaac's mouth and set things in motion for Jacob to be blessed. Isaac favored Esau in spite of God's prophetic word to Rebekah before the twins were born. Was Isaac favoring Esau because he knew the poor kid was gonna come off well and truly second best and wanted to show him he was loved? I believe God DID prompt Rebekah to do as she did in deceiving Isaac. I've given this study a lot of thought over the last few days. Something more needs to be said here. God has habitually used the youngest, the weakest, the one least likely to succeed, to bring about His will on Earth. This is reflected in what David wrote about Jesus Himself: The stone that the builders rejected as worthless turned out to be the most valuable of all. This was done by the Lord and what a wonderful thing it is. (TEV) God does that to show that "not by might not by power but by my Spirit" is the way to get things done in God's economy. wifee
4a)It was a blessing & prophecy from God,spoken through mouthpiece of Isaac.God’s blessing is a promise of fulfilment & cannot be reversed or changed b)Isaac challenged Jacob twice whether he was Esau,he was distressed when realised he’d been deceived. Esau’s cries moved him to bless him as a father with descendents of nation-status,this was in line with God’s blessing on Jacob, where Jacob would rule Esau’s clan all his life. c)God role as creator of heaven & earth, enables his will to happen, even when we make mistakes,he overcomes. Old Jerry
I think that the reason that Isaac could not reverse the blessing once he discovers Jacob’s trickery is because it was a blessing from God. I think God was just using Isaac to fulfill His prophecy.

What is Isaac's role in this blessing? What is God's role in it? it can It seems that there was no doubt in the minds of the characters inthe story that the blessing was final. It was probably there sense that when a a word spoken It can not be taken back. Here issac is speaking a prophecy, a word from God. Issac is speaking for God . God is the agent in the story. zoarabile
Isaac is a man of integrity and firmly upheld the traditions. He believes in the spoken word and as a head of the family he has to live by the consequences of his utterances and be exemplary. This also shows God's ability to orchestrate events in accordance with his will, for nothing is impossible with God. And in the instance we see Isaac as an instrument used by God to effect God's will.

What is Isaac's role in this blessing? What is God's role in it? Once words are spoken they must go forth. The words that Isaac spoke weren't words he thought of, these were the words of God. Once they went forth there was nothing he could do.
All SeedsHave Life-TheWord
Q4. (Genesis 27:33) Why couldn't Isaac reverse his blessing once he discovers Jacob's trickery? What is Isaac's role in this blessing? What is God's role in it? Here we have the source of the Blessing who is the ultimate supplier and that is God. He is the Author and the Finisher; the playwright and the Director and only His scripts is being acted by the rest. All supplies must flow through his chosen vessels ordained before the foundation of the Earth.  Isaac is the vessel through which the blessing is being passed onto all the people of the Earth as at this time, however, his position as the birthright-the chosen vessel has to be transferred to the next person within this relay. All these only go to attest "Many plans are in a man’s heart, but the purpose of the LORD will prevail." And if God be for US then who can be against us. Thus, a vessel can receive the blessings but cannot dictate where the blessings flow. Thus, "I have indeed received a command to bless; He has blessed, and I cannot change it. " (Numbers 23:21(

Irmela
Q4. (Genesis 27:33) Why couldn't Isaac reverse his blessing once he discovers Jacob's trickery? What is Isaac's role in this blessing? What is God's role in it? Isaac knew that God had said the older would serve the younger, before the boys were born. Yet he was sti;; prepared to give this blessing to Esau. The blessing Isaac spoke over Jacob was more than a father's blessing to a 'first-born' son, it was a prophecy over him, words God placed in his mouth. These were irrevocable. Isaac was the mouthpiece in this blessing. I think he realized this when Esau came and asked for the blessing of the first born which he now expected but had despised so many yrs before when he sold his birthright to his twin. Isaac began to shake. Could it have been because he realized that God had intervened and stopped him from making a mistake to try blessing the older instead of the younger with what God had said was the younger's due. God remains in control.
