Q4. Tithing

Recommended Posts

Jacob's promise to tithe indicated that he was very serious in entering into a relationship with God. A vow was a solemn, holy promise that was binding. This had very deep meaning and was very serious. In itself it was sacred. I liken his conversion experience to ones we all have. Up to a certain point we all "know" about God, have been taught about God but we have not experienced God. Jacob experienced God and knew without a doubt that's who he had a living encounter with in his experience. Once we experience God we don't have doubts anymore. We know absolutely there is a living spiritual being that desires to have a relationship with us! Jacob's conversion is this and he responds by saying, "All right then! This is my vow to you as you reveal more of yourself to me!" His promise to tithe I believe was to say he would be thankful for all the things he had asked for as he received them and he would give in return to God. That's a relationship!

Jacob knew that God had totally accepted him. Jacob wanted to give back so he commited

to giving his tenth. How wonderful we serve an almighty God that only ask for a tenth.

This gives us 90 percent to enjoy and that is what our mighty Saviour wants. He wants us to prosper and the only thing He ask in return is to love Him and love others.

Q4. (Genesis 28:22)

What does Jacob's promise to tithe indicate about his commitment?

Presumably, Jacob has been a believer in Yahweh all his life.

In what sense is this incident at Bethel a conversion experience for him?

What is the relationship of tithing to conversion?

Jacob knows that God will supply and that all resorces are ultimately God's. His tithe is the recognition of that.

After Jacobs awoke he was no longer the same. This was his conversion He had a mind-expanding glimpse of God's infinite greatness.

Jacob's tithing is a vow of loyalty and submission to the Lord as his King and God.

The tithe is his way of accepting the Lord's kingship over Jacob, an act of submission and fealty. Tithing isn't about money but about discipleship. Tithing is a powerful indicator to us that we trust God and have committed our lives to him. And so it was for Jacob.

It suggests to me the seriousness which Jacob places his commitment. It also tells me that he is not in it just for what he can get out of it.

There is a verse in James 2:19, 20 that says "the devils believe and tremble. But do you want to know that faith w/o works is dead". It is one thing to believe and another to put God where He belongs in our lives as King of Kings and Lord of Lord's.

God Bless!

His tything is an accetance of God as his king and lord. Its a show of his reliance on God to provide his needs.

To do this and trust in God shows his complete conversion to be Gods servant and that he completely turned his life over to God.

Jacob trusted God whole heartedly.

Whatever you give me I will give you a tenth.

He met God for himself it is no longer his father or Grandfathers God. God has become personal to Jacob.

To trust God is to hand everything you have to God. So to commit a tenth of what God gives you shows God is first in your life.

What Jacob's promise to tithe indicates about his commmitment is that he recgonizes that God will supply his needs and that all resources are ultimately God's.

The incident at Bethel is a conversion experience for Jacob because he has accepted the Lord's kingship over him,an act of submission and fealty.

The relationship of tithing to conversion is that we acknowledge God's Lordship over everything in our life including our money and finances. Tithing isn't about money but discipleship. It is a powerful indicator that we are willing to trust God and that we have committed our lives to Him. By giving God a tenth of our income,we are trusting Him to supply our needs.

jacob's promise to tithe showed that he was serious about getting serious with God. He had come to a realization that God was in control of his life and all that he had was given to him by God. He was also demonstrating that he was putting his trust in God.

Even though Jacob was a believer all his life, he inherited his faith secondhand. He just followed his parents in worship without fully comprehending who Yahweh is. The Bethel incident was a conversion experience because he had a personal encounter with God - he finally realized that God is real.

The relationship of tithing to conversion is that it shows total commitment on our part and putting our trust in God.

Tithing was an act of submission to God as well as a demonstration that Jacob understood that whatever God blessed him with - He still had control over it and how it was to be used. . . Tithing was Jacob's way of demonstrating that understood he wasn't the "owner" of the possessions - that he was required to be a faithful "steward" and must use all that he possessed to glorify and honor God. . .

The incident at Bethel brought Jacob into a greater awareness of who God truly is - His power and His glory - helping Jacob to realize that he was a servant of the one trueand living God. . .

Tithing demonstrates our allegiance to God and love for God - that we are servants of God and not mammon / money. . . Matthew 6:19-24 (NLT)
