In the Greek, the idea of redemption means to be 'bought back', that is made free by the payment of a ransome. Christ redeemed us when he died upon the cross in our place. When we confess our sins, God is gracious to forgive us because payment has been made in full by his Son Jesus, who died that we might live. Praise Him. Redemption; forgiveness What did the idea of redemption mean in the Greek? It means "to buy back" In what way did Christ "redeem" us? With Adam's "fall", Satan was given rightful authority over the earth and it's people. Only a sinless Man could buy us back legally from Satan, and Jesus purchased us when He died on the cross and shed His innocent blood for us. What is the significance of the fact that our sins are forgiven in this kingdom? We now live as aliens in a fallen world. We no longer face judgement or God's wrath; We live as free men/women among a world of people who are enslaved to sin and Satan, though most don't know that they are. That's part of the significance of our forgiveness....we can share christ with them and throw a life line to them to enter the Kingdom of God with us. The significance is that we are set free from all our wrong doings. God has completely pardon us from all our sins through Jesus sacrificial death on the cross. For we are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, once no people now God's people proclaiming the excellencies of Him, who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. And it's imperative to understand that this redemption and forgiveness has NOTHING to do with us/our worthiness/our ability - it is ONLY by and because of the great love and marvelous grace of the Father. It is only in the beloved Son that we have these qualities. In the Greek, the concept of redemption referred to a ransom payment that secured the release of one in slavery/bondage/captivity. This is certainly the image of what Christ has done for us! A transgression always creates a debt - an obligation to restore and make it right. We were shackled/imprisoned by our violation of God's holiness and our debt of sin against Him. And there was no way or means for us to pay that debt or restore holiness. We very justly had an eternal death sentence because of it. Rather than condemn us, God sent His Son in human flesh to make the perfect atonement we are incapable of making for ourselves (John 3:17). Jesus took our death sentence in order to pay our debt. But because of the spotless blameless life and holy character of Jesus, God redeemed Him from the consequence of sin by raising Him from death - and forever defeated its power to claim us! Christ has satisfied sin's debt and secured release from eternal bondage. Now He offers that same redemption to anyone who personally believes God has done this and publicly confesses that He is Lord. No trace of iniquity/unrighteousness will ever be allowed in God's holy presence or His Kingdom. But the charges against us are extensive and the stains seem permanent. When we repent and accept Him in faith, Christ wipes out the record of sin by washing His blood over it and makes us white as snow from the inside out (Isaiah 1:18). The obligation we had to atone for sin is mercifully forgiven and punishment is pardoned. That is crucial in His Kingdom because no one with an unforgiven debt to sin is qualified to enter. In this particular passage for "The forgiveness of our sins, indicating both liberation from guilt and doom of sins and for the introduction of a life in liberty and newness of life." Jesus is Redeemer in that He purchased us with His blood, freeing us from the life of slavery to sin and death. We have victory of every kind in Jesus. The fact that our sins are forgiven, through Jesus, in the Kingdom is our hope! Until then, we were doomed and now we have the promise of life! We are seen as righteous through Jesus and counted among the Saints in His Kingdom. We can move forward into our new life as over-comers in everything. Jesus owns us, and our service now is due to Him for it is He who brought us out of slavery to our sinful natures. The significance of our salvation, which is due to Jesus' blood covering our sins, is now in His Kingdom; we are acceptable to God for we are seen now as without sins since we are forgiven completely.
