Q4. (Colossians 1:18) How should the assertion that Jesus is the "head of the body, the church" affect the way we conceive of the church? WE SHOULD CONCEIVE OF THE CHURCH IS THE BODY OF PEOPLE FOLLOWING CHRIST AND LETTING GOD'S WORD MAKE THE DECISIONS.

Is he talking about the universal church or a local congregation, or both? CHRIST IS THE HEAD OF BOTH THE LOCAL CONGREGATION AND THE UNIVERSAL CHURCH.

If we believe that Jesus is the head of the church, how should that affect the way we conduct our life and ministry as the church? WE SHOULD CONDUCT OUR LIFE AND MINISTRY ACCORDING TO GOD'S WORD. WE SHOULD DO EVERYTHING TO GLORIFY GOD.

In what ways does the visible church represent the "head"? THE VISIBLE CHURCH CAN REPRESENT CHRIST BY TEACHING HIS WORD AND LIVING TO GLORIFY HIM.

How well do we as the body follow his leadership? WE NEED TO CONSTANTLY STRIVE TO DO THIS.

Jesus is the "Head" of the Church as it is the "Body".

Jesus claims the Church as his- it is of him and follows as directed by the head which is Jesus and direct the Body.

We as the Church (body) must honor and be led by the head (Jesus).

Today respect seems to have reduced in the Church and fails to acknowledge that Jesus is the head of the Church and glory is to him.

We know that Jesus is the head of the entire church--our authority.

He is head of local and the universal church.

We are serving God in Jesus, so that needs to be first & foremost in our thoughts & actions.

The church is supposed to be a living witness of Jesus in the community & world.

I think in most churches it is a struggle to let Christ be the head--not all for "self." Not easy--but necessary!!

1.Church is not only a buliding but a group of christian brothers and sisters that meet together to praise and worship our Lord. It been written in

so it is with Christ's body. We are all parts of his one body, and each of us has different work to do. And since we are all one body in Christ, we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the others. Ro 12:5

And the head of this body is Christ alone... and is written in col 2:19

But they are not connected to Christ, the head of the body. For we are joined together in his body by his strong sinews, and we grow only as we get our nourishment and strength from God.

with this Jesus is the head of the body, the church. Plus, we all are church and is written in 1 cor 6:19 don't you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, Amen

2. He talking abt both...

3.we need to stay holy and pure for God say "So set yourselves apart to be holy, for I, the LORD, am your God" that is in Lev 20:7 and also in 1 peter 1:16 For he himself has said, "You must be holy because I am holy."

4. is by us, for we are the light and salt of the world (matth 5:13-16)and every one is watching us every action include how we live... for our life is the testimony to other.... So we need to stick close to God so we can be more like Christ...

5. To follow his leadership, we need to be obedient and willing to follow him... include surrender all ourself to him... mean " let him to be part of all our activity in our life... however, most christian didnt surrender to him... so cm fellow brothers n sisters be willing and be obedient ...

Q4. (Colossians 1:18) How should the assertion that Jesus is the "head of the body, the church" affect the way we conceive of the church?

The church is under the lordship of Jesus. We should realize that we are serving Him, and not man. We should strive to be in unity with his teachings and with one another, provided we are not falling into error.

Is he talking about the universal church or a local congregation, or both?

This passage is talking about the universal church.

If we believe that Jesus is the head of the church, how should that affect the way we conduct our life and ministry as the church?

We should conduct our life and ministry as an example of Jesus to the world.

In what ways does the visible church represent the "head"?

The church represents (Jesus) visibly by showing love to the world, by standing against sin, by reaching out to the poor and needy, and be evangelizing the world with the Good News.

How well do we as the body follow his leadership?

We fall short, but we should keep striving to attain perfection.

Paul is talking about both the unversal church and the local congregation. Jesus is the head of the body - the church. Every church, corporately and individual christians, should worship the Lord only, not the pastor, the elders, the church building, the songs etc. We should serve each other and our communities to glorify His name and to exemplify his character. Christians should do the will of God and be guided and directed by Jesus only. Today, instead of asking Jesus the Head for help, many christians follow their leaders blindly and many churches tend to rely on the programmes they have concocted or simply copy the "succcessful" ones of other churches.

The visible church represents the "head" because it is supposed to be a shepherd to the sheep. The visible church is to feed, minister to and look after its flock. It is also supposed to point non-believers to Jesus through His love, mercy and grace. We can demonstrate Jesus' love, mercy and grace through good works, in the way we treat people in and outside the church and through the preaching of the Word.

How well we follow his leadership depends on our walk with Him. If we truly love Jesus as our Lord and saviour, we will follow his leadership completely. It does not happen overnight but it becomes a gradual process. It gets easier as we learn to obey.

Q4. (Colossians 1:18) How should the assertion that Jesus is the "head of the body, the church" affect the way we conceive of the church? Is he talking about the universal church or a local congregation, or both? In this specific verse Paul is clearly stating that Jesus Christ is the head of the universal church. Jesus is said to be the beginning, the first born among the dead, that in all things he might have pre-eminence. He

I like this. You are right. What keeps us from fulfilling it? How can we re-connect to the head?huh.gif

I don't think it's a need to reconnect, since nothing can "disconnect" us from Christ (John 10:28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.) It's more like a pinched nerve or inflammation or skeletal misalignment or myriad of other things that impair the nervous system's proper function. It's a need to keep the channel open for the flow of energy and direction from the Head out to the body, I think. Christians continue to battle the flesh (Rom. 17:18); many Christians remain immature and carnal (1 Cor.3:1-3); we quench the Spirit with disobedience (1Thess. 5:19); we get careless, obstinate, apathetic, doubtful. All of those things disrupt the response of the Body to signals/impulses from our Head. Greater personal submission to yield ourselves to Christ and obey the Spirit's leading as individuals will "unclog" the channel and strengthen the whole Body! We need to be God-centered instead of self-centered. We need to live out our call to love. We need to desire to more accurately represent Christ in everything we do.

The church should be a reflection of Christ. It should should bear good fruit, promote God's love and should be obedient to the Word.

He is talking about a universal church, however, a local church is included if that particular church is following Jesus' doctrine. As a whole, we do not (obviously) follow Christ's leadership which is evident of the hatred, crime, chaos and the scheme to rid God out of man's everyday life.

The world can do anything the church can do, except show grace.

The churches in America show very little grace.

The system of denominations in the church universal is not of Christ.

His plan is one church living confident that we are loved by the Father, then living in that love and loving all the other in the body.

Grace will flow out of this type of love.

Sorry Ron, I highly disagree that churches in America show very little grace...churches in america as in the world send missionaries and support to all in need in the glorious name of Jesus and as His humble servants always.

Total condemnation of American churches is seriously flawed and doesnt honor the spirit or grace or love of Christ.

Again condemning the "systems of denomiation as universal and not of Christ" is way too judgemental and not reflective of true spirit of various denomations that dedicate their heart and souls and spirits to honor, serve, and glorify Christ.

Yes there may be a few bad "apple" churches with confused ideologies like the Catholic church stand currently on pedophilia diving and ducking and not standing up and taking responsibility but that is not all denominations or all Catholics or other denominations or "saints" who follow those denominations. Blanket condemnation is a tool of Satan to weaken the body of Christ so be wary and careful what you say or judge. Judge not or Ye shall be judged. We all have to watch what we say or do in the name of Christ making sure we always reflect His spirit and the Holy word and not our personal philosophies.

Jesus is the head of the universal church, i.e. of every believer in the world. He is the Head that gives us guidance and we are His Body, firmly attached to Him.

Just as the brain cells in the head sends messages to every part of the physical body, so Jesus is in charge of every believer in His body.

We are His representatives here on earth and we are to be a true reflection of Him. He gives us the Holy Spirit and changes us from glory to glory.

As a body we should work together in unity and love of one another, our priority being to love Christ and obey Him in all things.

Love from Greta

Colossians 1:18 - And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.

We should honor Jesus at all times as the "head of the body, the church" whether it is local or universal. We should allow Jesus to be our decision making through individual and church wide prayer. We should be able to trust Him in order to honor Him.

Unfortunately our churches' decisions today are usually by committee or vote and the power of prayer is only for the opening and closing of the meeting. It is not easy, but some churches actually put Jesus first.
