poetmom
I think it's especially important to note that we're not just "neutralized" by reconciliation but brought 180 degrees from hostility to friendship. When I was a younger Christian, I thought it was all about avoiding hell. It is so much more! We are now children of God, brothers and sisters of Christ! Highohfaith
Q1. (Colossians 1:20-22). What does “reconcile” mean? What was our state before reconciliation? (verse 21) It is written that Jesus reconciled us in His fleshly body through death. "Reconciled" means "changed from one thing to another." As messed up, rebellious, and evil as we were, there was no way to just "fix" us. We had to be completely "changed out." Our hearts were against Him, so He created new hearts in us. Our first life was a mess, so we needed to be born again. The blood of jesus washed us clean and white as snow, which reconsiled us to God. “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.” (Acts 3:19) Therefore if any man is in Christ, {he is} a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 2Cor. 5:
wifee
1a)Changed from one state of thinking to another. B)Before reconciliation we had become enemies of God, as we had let our own desires,self-interests, and sin take hold of us. There was a separation between us & God which we could bridge by our efforts alone. Our relationship with God needs to be restored, through Jesus
sandee
To unite-- or re-unite. we were far away from God, seperated from him because of our evil thoughts & actions.
jacquie7
To reconcile means to be brought back in right relationship; reunite. Before we were in a state of sin, shame, and darkness, which separated us from a Holy God and made us His enemies because we resisted Him and His will. WinstonY
Q1. (Colossians 1:20-22). What does reconcile mean? What was our state before reconciliation? (verse 21) "Reconcile" is apokatallassō is a Greek word found only in Christian writings. It would thus seem that it has a very special Christian meaning. It is formed from apo-, "finishing and completion"+ katallassō, "the exchange of hostility for a friendly relationship, reconcile"--"to reconcile completely. So if people are to be reconciled to God it would imply that we are changed from a situation where we were "Alienated" from the Lord to a situation where we reconvilated ,-put right with the Lord. . we would move from a position of enemy of the Lord or hostile. to a supporter of the Lord. We are brought back to a right relationship with the LORD.
