pickledilly
Learning obedience in the home prepares children for the real life demands of obedience to authorities over them at school and in the workplace. It teaches them appropriate respect for proper civil and government authority. But most importantly, it teaches them about obedience to our heavenly Father as they learn to first to submit to their parents out of respect and then out of love as they mature. Fathers must recognize that they represent God to their children. What a difference it would make if dads modeled themselves after the Father in the way He relates to His children. One primary principle is that parents need to break/shape their child's will without crushing the spirit by being unfair, harsh, inconsistent, unreliable, demeaning, uninvolved, unloving. Children need to be able to trust that no matter what they've done or what consequence they must face, they are completely and unconditionally loved - which means they are valued and the top priority is whatever is for their highest good. We won't always succeed in the attempt, but we should honestly desire to parent this way and use our failures as opportunities to demonstrate humility and repentance to our children. Vincent Paul DiMino
Q2. (Colossians 3:20-21) In what way does obedience prepare a child for everyday life in the future? For spiritual life in the future? What can fathers do to keep from discouraging their children? Obedience to, or honoring of, one's parents is obedience to God.We are bound to our biological (and spiritual,as well) families, in ways beyond our understanding. The "principalities" we struggle with existed before our time on this earth,as did the issues they present to us in that struggle. We fight battles with the "sins of our fathers".We must not lead our children to believe that our enemies will prevail. We must teach them faith,by example:1st: faith in our Savior, and then, faith in themselves,as those who are blessed, and to whom victory will be granted. iam4-1god
Q2. (Colossians 3:20-21) In what way does obedience prepare a child for everyday life in the future? For spiritual life in the future? What can fathers do to keep from discouraging their children? My Dad Taught me right from wrong. He taught me that hard work is rewarding. He taught me to share with those less fortunate than me, even though we had just the essentials. And, he taught me obedience. When I didn't obey-I was punished! But, my Dad didn't beat me or my sibblings. Firm, but gentle. He meant business. We were not spoiled brats. But, we knew without being told, that we were loved. Dad knew how to mix love and punishment, without being overbearing with either. You don't see that much anymore. I strayed for a while, and did some shameful things. But I never forgot my Dad's love and admonition for me, and that is one of the things that brought me to Jesus, when I laid my burdens at His feet. What can fathers do to keep from discouraging their children? In society, in school, at work, ..., one can't behave like he wants. As for spiritual life, we have to obey God. Fathers need to be a good example. They have to be just. When you're parents are not just, you never ever trust them.
Elwood C O'Dell
If a child learns to obey those over them at home, it will help them to submit or obey to those who have authority over them in their everyday walk of life. (ex: at school, work, military, etc.) This same obedience applies in areas of one

RodR
Q2. (Colossians 3:20-21) In what way does obedience prepare a child for everyday life in the future? For spiritual life in the future? What can fathers do to keep from discouraging their children? Learning obedience helps children become less selfish. They learn to consider other's needs and how to please them. They learn to listen to directions carefully and follow through without being watched. They learn to submit to authority. Children who learn obedience will make better employees, fathers, mothers, citizens, etc. An attitude of submission is critical for spiritual growth. Paul writes about having the same attitude as Christ. (Phil 2:5-8) Discouragement comes from a loss of heart or hope. When children believe there is no way they can please a father they become discouraged. Fathers need to give their children an opportunity to succeed. They need to encourage, comfort, and urge their children to obey in the same way our heavenly Father treats His children.

For spiritual life in the future? What can fathers do to keep from discouraging their children? [/quote By learning at young age to do things that please God (obedience) makes it must easier as an adult because by that time it has become a natural response to everyday situations. Father's need to be involved in everyday life with there children building a close relationship with them not being the disciplinarian in the family. This will control the tendency to be harsh. What can fathers do to keep from discouraging their children? It prepares them to obey laws both man's and God's. We want to teach them that obeying God's laws is a pleasure not just a must do. It is sincerely pleasing to obey God. Fathers don't be harsh or overly critical. Don't forget to praise the young ones when they try and they goof up. God Bless! What can fathers do to keep from discouraging their children? Obedience shows that you have love and admiration for the person who is admonishing you. A child loves their parents and want to please them parents have the resposibility of guiding a child so that they are raised to know how to love and show that love to others this above all pleases God. A child who is shown this grows up knowing who God is and wanting to follow his practices and maintain the very virtue that their parents instilled in them. A father and mother should guide their children and admonish without breaking their spirit instill in them a sense of selfworth that will remain with them a lifetime

What can fathers do to keep from discouraging their children? Obedience prepares the child for obedience to God, our real Father. And just as God, though just and firm, is infinitely loving, so need the fathers and mothers model themselves after the heavenly Father in their upbringing of their children. When edifying the child, the parents need always be patient and have a loving heart. How wise is God who teaches us divine virtues through family life! What can fathers do to keep from discouraging their children? Because it pleases the Lord. This is the part that really speaks to my spirit. We need to lean what surrendering our will is so that we can know our children are coming under the authority of God. This is why we must not discourage our children - their attitude will mark how they are going to feel about God their Father.
DrD
B)There is order in all things - and because of such we all need to know how to subject and submit ourselves to those who have rule over us whether in the Church or in teh secular world. . . Fathers should refrain from being so strict / demanding that it results in discouragement. . . Fathers need also find ways of bonding with their children - not to be their friend - but a parent that takes responsibility in training their children to be successful and effective in life, both in the natural (secular) and in the spiritual. . . What can fathers do to keep from discouraging their children? Colossians 3:20-21 - 20Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. 21Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged. A child needs to know right from wrong and as parents, we should have learned this from our own parents. Parents are the foundation and need to demonstrate by their own actions how their children should live. They must set the example. A child will become an adult and must live in this world, both as an earthly being, but as well as a spiritual being. God is our heavenly Parent and we must obey Him. Both parents must encourage their children and not tear them down with insults because those insults will impact them for their adult life and that will carry over to their children. OLD GARY
Q2. (Colossians 3:20-21) In what way does obedience prepare a child for everyday life in the future? For spiritual life in the future? What can fathers do to keep from discouraging their children? Learing obedience to parents fosters a mental state that makes adapting to authority in the workplace and adult world more natural and more responsive. Resistance or refusal to accept parental authority frequently develops into antisocial and a total resistance to any authority in life. In raising of the child correction and leadersip is needed to foster the differance between right and wrong and the ability to make wise and learned life decisions. Correction of children who fail to obey should be done lovingly but forcefully to avoid a confrotational situation. It is a fine line when a child crosses into adulthood. Many factors of these directions are definetly influenced by socity and its level of acceptance of behavior. Children are frequently more influienced by peer groups than parental rule. "To rear a child obediently and lovingly will give great parental pride as they become adults"
Paul H
Q2. (Colossians 3:20-21) In what way does obedience prepare a child for everyday life in the future? For spiritual life in the future? What can fathers do to keep from discouraging their children? The relationship described here is the same as the relationship between God and humans. In that sense, the obedience which Paul refers to here is a model for the relationship which the children have, and will continue to have, with God. It also prpeares them for a life in which obedience to authority on some level is going to be a constant feature (whether to a boss at work, a teacher at school, or a Government). What to do to keep from discouraging? Be positive, be patient, be gentle but firm and above all be loving. In fact, look at how Jesus behaved with His disciples and learn from it. Lion of Grace
Obedience trains a child to learn submission to those in authority, but should never be taught as mindless submitting to anything. When we teach a child obedience, we should always have a good, sound, biblical reasoning for asking a child to submit to our authority. It should be a serious instruction on teaching children to do what is good and right....not just because anyone "says so." Our example of who we think God is, comes from our upbringing. If we knew harshness, dictating and condemnation....we will tend to grow up thinking of God that way. If we know a parent who taught us for our safety and security in love, we will come to know God's character and to obey Him because our security is in His instruction and leading because He loves us and has for our good in His heart. Parents can always avoid discouraging their children or cause them to loose heart by speaking truth with love and loving in truth. If parents don't know the truth themselves or do not understand love, and use harsh discipline for all the wrong reasons, they will have disheartened, angry children and will see them break way and discount anything they have ever been taught whether right or wrong. JanMary
Q2. (Colossians 3:20-21) In what way does obedience prepare a child for everyday life in the future? Obedient children learn that they are not the center of the universe, to practice restraint as well as to follow Instructions, orders, directions... which helps them to be disciplined students in school, thoughtful in friendships and later in marriage where mutual submission is required in order to function well, and valued employees on the job. If they go into the military they are already trained to obey commands and to respect authority. It produces the mindset throughout life to obey the laws of the land. For spiritual life in the future? An obedient, well disciplined child learns to be obedient to the Lord. Obedience pleases the Lord. I Samuel 15: 22-23, says obedience is more valued to God than sacrifice, and rebellion is as witchcraft and stubbornness is as idolatry. What can fathers do to keep from discouraging their children? The Amplified version says for Fathers not to provoke, irritate or harass, or be hard on them. Correction can be effective without their spirits being broken. Setting good boundaries is helpful and with known consequences for overstepping them can be implemented without harshness.
